I just waited a weekend for a T Mobile 5G router just to find out their tower doesn't even reach me, I was ready to give up on having high speed internet until I found your channel. Can't thank you enough for doing what you do.
Use cellmapper. Net to locate towers and see what's covering your area.

Hi Kevin, I too just finished a home in rural east texas and am struggling with internet and fighting back and fourth with Optimum. Im about 400ft from the tap to get internet from them. Im really considering going this route from netbuddy too. Starlink isnt available for me.
Greetings from Scotland, UK! Excellent video showing your results, I'm impressed! I've gone down the 4G router route also (no 5G Service here yet) and bought an external antenna to go with it - never looked back!
I also played around with the Band Selection within the settings to see which band provides the best speeds instead of leaving it on Auto. On Auto, it doesn't always select the best performing Band, so after playing around with the settings I found that Band 3 with my network provider was the best by far! Maybe worth you checking out the bands with your provider and see if you can improve on your already impressive results :-)

Great channel! I would recommend you buy Rohn Tower to get over them trees and put your antennas on it. You would have better ping - latency even speed, that's what we have done helped a lot my kids have better internet for gaming and less cell phone drops.

Once you get settled with your internet, such as fiber or cell, it’d love to see a whole home/shop Ethernet install for things you’d like to have wired. 😊
I'll be doing that, I've already been buying some equipment to hardwire a lot of things.
You could also use point to point wifi to link your house to any out buildings without needing multiple SIM cards. It's fairly inexpensive and would let you put the cellular router wherever on the property has the best signal
Yes I just recently did this for a friend, worked very well. Keep in mind that I am testing this setup for the company and giving viewers information and alternatives.
James is correct. That is the BEST way to go. I have a Ubiquiti UniFi PTMP setup between in-laws house and my house and getting over 300MB. The whole setup was a one time cost of $150 total for both antennas (one at each end) and a wi-fi AP.

How do know which service is strongest in your area ? I’ve used signal locator that tells us which direction the antenna is located but can’t figure out which carrier is best for my location.

Was doing a speed test on my phone not to far from you yesterday when driving thru my TMobile phone was pulling 357.4 down and 196 up I did not realize them enabled 5guc in your area should look at a 5g cell router now to double your speeds
My routers are 5g capable. You have to be very near a tower to pull it off though.
Hi Andrew - First off, thank you a TON, I've watched at least a dozen of your videos, and all have been extremely helpful! I'm thinking about going with this solution (Net Buddy Outdoor Router), and also with a HiBoost cellular booster (are you still using that in your house?). I would need to mount both the Net Buddy Router and HiBoost antennae(s) on the end of a garage/workshop that makes our overall house kind of an L-shaped situation (garage/workshop on one leg, house on the other leg). I would probably need to run the cables for each through the attic and to the house at a distance of a little over 50 feet. The cell tower (4G LTE) distance from us is just under 4 miles, and through a bunch of trees, just like at your place. My questions are:
1. Do you see the 50+ ft cable distance being a problem (signal, POE, anything else I may have missed)?
2. Could I get away with mounting the router and the HiBoost antennae(s) on the same side of the workshop, but on opposite eaves? They would probably be at least 10 feet apart. Or would proximity of them really even cause any signal interference (in case I need to go higher, which would move them closer together)?
3. If desired, could I install the HiBoost box and/or a router that connects to the Net Buddy in the attic (and all of the heat/cold that comes with that)? That would reduce my 50+ ft cable(s) distance.

I have both of mine on the same end of the house, but separation is recommended just in case there's some interference. If you have to run longer cables you can, but keep in mind the longer the cable the more signal loss that will happen. It's always recommended to keep cables as short as possible, and go to the highest quality cable you can because that does make a difference. I am still running my high boost. If you don't need the cell signal inside your shop, keep in mind you can do just the net buddy router and use Wi-Fi calling on your phone.
Any one else having issues that with the outdoor router and all of the network provider plans showing as "out of stock" at netbuddy? Is this just something you have to watch and try to catch them in stock or is there something else going on?
Correct, watch for stock. Supply chain issues that we hate to keep hearing about has hurt them. As soon as they get stock in, people buy them out.

For your setup in the shop, do you purchase another home internet connection to the new outdoor router, or is it simply another line added into your account? Thanks in advance.
It's a independent data only line.

I have tmobile black tower gateway as my internet provider and only get 4mgb down and barely 1 upload in rural Oklahoma. I ordered the same ASUS AC1900 and cables from your link and received those. The outdoor router is supposed to be arriving today.
Question, do I connect the ASUS to the Tmobile gateway with the provided cable, then connect the outdoor router to the ASUS via the POE device ethernet connection?

You don't use the gateway with this setup, the outdoor router takes its own Sim and has all other hardware built internally. You run a ethernet cable from the outdoor router directly to the wifi router indoors.

I don't think I've ever seen this in one of your videos. But I'm curious what cellphone service you use and how does it test while in your yard to see the difference between that and how much the external antennas are boosting your signal.
My cell phone provider is different from the cell internet router so I can't test that accurately.
Had good luck so far with the mofi but im still using 4g
4g is the most common in rural areas and quite fast.
If your home internet is fast enough did you consider the 6e mesh wifi option?
Yes, I have a mesh system. I'm testing this router out more than anything.
I think this router/antenna have really short cable, that's mean no lose of signal betwen antenna and router and the all thing is optimize to work together.
Hard to mount the unit outside and install a router inside with a 3ft cable.
Ping was much lower as well. Have you checked with your electrical company? We are semi rural and 2 years ago our electric company ran fiber. 1 G symmetrical for 59.99/month.
Yes we are getting fiber but it's at least another year away.

I do not as mine is working great and I have not had to upgrade anything.
Does the same unit work for both Verizon, AT&t, and T-Mobile but with just a different SIM card? Or is the hardware actually carrier-specific
My understanding it works with different Sims, you moat likely make a change in the software. That's how most routers work.

It's still doing just fine for me. Keep in mind that's not an antenna that's an outdoor router, just want to make sure you understand it correctly.

it's a all in one unit. Small antenna AND internal router/modem for cellular Sim card. Nothing extra needed except an indoor wifi router.
You must have good cellular coverage. Verizon’s tower overloads so everyone in our area complains about dropped calls and V is doing nothing to increase capacity. I’ll keep this in mind if our cell service improves. Thank you!
I am looking to get high speed internet in Rural AL. I am a Verizon user, but they just built a huge AT&T cell tower across the street from us. This is not my primary residence and I visit about twice a month (sometimes more during hunting seasons). This internet would be used for day to day cell service, streaming for the TV (Live streaming like ESPN mostly), and remote desktop connection for working from home. Which method of all the ones you have tried would you suggest I use? I am also having a hard time trying to determine what type of AT&T SIM card I will need. Any help is greatly appreciated!
This seems to me like the best solution, but I just don't know what SIM card to buy (or how frankly), or how difficult setting up the outdoor router would be (but I'm sure this is answered in another one of your videos, or in a multitude of videos on youtube). That company has a Sim and set up process for AT&T. I strongly suggest using their equipment and Sim process for ease of setup. The link to the company is in the video description.

It's either 4g or 5g, whichever it can pickup. I am using Netbuddys T mobile Sim.

You add a wifi router to this inside. That determines your reach.

Did you verify it's compatible with Verizon? I've tested so many I can't remember, but I thought it took AT&T and T mobile. You also are going to want a wifi router.
So you didn't have to line up router with the tower ? And does this mean you have two cellular lines ?
Nope that antenna appears to be 360 degrees. Yes I have a backup line now, which I prefer having social media accounts.
What model is it, the modem is built in right? So you just need a router inside.

That's an older Weboost home basic. Sadly that model has been discontinued, it works well.

I always recommend using the cards that are designed for it. I get those from Netbuddy. Link is in the video description.

A basic ethernet cable to your wifi router.
Now that you've been using this for a couple of months or longer are you still satisfied with it? I'm still looking for something to use for my security cameras at my shop that is a little over 350ft from my home and my home router is not strong enough to reach my shop and cameras!
Yes it's still working fine. I'll also suggest what's called a point to point wifi extender. They work much farther than that using your home wifi.

All I got was a weak signal couldn’t get any better than that so I had to send it back…it could have been the T-Mobile towers too far away from me I don’t know.. maybe I should have went with Verizon instead..I live in the mountains of Georgia so that may have a lot to do with it as well…anyways thanks for the info Kelly we appreciate ya

I have the 5 g router from Net Buddy. We have been living in an RV as we build our house. It has been working OK in the RV and even getting some reception in the house from the RV. The house is metal with wood framing. We are now in the house. I moved the router here and attached the outside wave form panel antenna. My reception is worse now. Any suggestions? I have not tried moving the antenna. Would that make a difference
Make sure the antenna is in the correct direction, that makes a huge difference. Also try swapping around the antenna connections on the router. Lastly make 100 percent sure you connected the outside antenna to the proper ports on the router. People mistakenly connect them to the 2.4 and 5ghz wifi antenna ports.
@@TKCL thank you for responding. Someone else connected it for me. I don't know for sure how they connected the antennas. Are all 4 to be plugged in? So each one should be plugged in to a certain spot and not just any of them? I don't know that they were aware of that and how they did it
@davidoliver9395 yes the spots are labeled. Do not connect the outdoor antenna to the 4 spots labeled 2.4ghz or 5ghz. Those are output antenna spots for wifi
Are you referring to the ports on the side of the router? They are plugged into the back of the wifi router. Does it matter which port each one is plugged into on the back of the router? @@TKCL
I just watched your video on answering questions. One of the things you said was that the antennas were switched and now on the 5 g router the cell ports are on the side of the router and the wifi ports are on the back of the router. I thought it was the opposite and the cables from the antenna are plugged into the back of the router. Should they be plugged into the side of the router instead?

My cellphone has 5g with Verizon at my house, but cellmapper doesn't show a Verizon tower over my house. It does show an at&t tower over my house, but people in the area say at&t cellphones don't have good service. Would Verizon still be good to go with or should I try at&t based off cellmapper?
If your phone has good signal, I'd go with that carrier. Especially being 5G.

@@TKCL With the speeds I'm getting just using 4G LTE (up to 205 down and 60 up), there is no way I'd spend $130 more per month for less consistent Starlink service. I have 2 co-workers that use Starlink, and they are both less than pleased with the consistency of the service.
I have two friends with it as well. They loved it at first, now they occasionally experience slow downs and connectivity issues. I also get faster upload speeds than them, that's important for me uploading content. They do usually average faster download than me, but honesty after about 25 Mbps down I can't tell a difference for daily streaming.

Yes of course, they sell out often. He's had a very hard time getting routers in from overseas. Supply chain issues we've all been dealing with for a couple of years. All I can say is keep checking, they usually sell out fast when he gets them back in stock.

Well that's a good and a bad thing. Sounds like you have peace and quiet and are rural, but I'm afraid satellite internet will be your only option.

Most likely not, you need some signal to boost.
@@TKCL when I say I have no signal that is on a prepaid TracFone. I used cellmapper and it looks like there is an at&t mobility tower nearby?
Then you might be OK with AT&T. I'd try a AT&T phone there first.

I just ordered the 5G outdoor router and an indoor router. Wondering if the POE device should be closer to the outdoor or indoor one and if that even matters. I have about 120ft. In total that the Ethernet cord will need to travel. Thanks
just an update. unfortunately, im just too far from the tower for this one to work. luckily starlink came available and i went with that. im paying more, but i dont have to move my attenna around everyday just to be able to get a little service
Execpt of paying 2 plans why don't you run some fiber. Shallow bury or over a pole.
Even easier is a long range booster, installed one at my friend's shop. Worked very well several hundred yards from the house. I'll eventually be getting fiber here and making some changes.

This is for internet only, you can use wifi calling over it. Otherwise you need a booster for cellular phone service.

I'm about to move to an area with no internet providers. I'm trying to figure out what to get. I have a son that games and well,, I need internet myself. Supposedly t mobile is good in the area there as well.
You definitely need to find the correct provider covering that area. If none are, Starlink is about your only choice.

@@TKCL That's good. I'm just pointing out that doing a speed test standing next to the wifi router likely isn't going to reflect the speed you'll actually get 50 or 75 feet away from wifi router as the speed and thruput drop as you move away from the wifi router.

Wow, Impressive results indeed!
Not sure if this is just simply a product demo on your part? However if not there are a number of significant undesirable disadvantages too an external integrated device package design like this due to placing the active (DC powered) RAN (radio access network) components outdoors in the elements as excessive heat, moisture and direct exposure to gamma rays (yes it is a BIG deal) will dramatically decrease the MTBF (mean time between failures) too not very much time at all, if not built to the absolute highest UL / CE / Mil Spec engineering standards and certifications vers a cozy chill UPS protected life in your Yetty Cooler of a home, lol!
Also, your 4x4 passive (non powered) 100% weather sealed fractal panel array antenna or even the previous LPDA (log periodic dipol array) antennas are immune to all of these factors due to not containing any active components at all.
Even more undesirable in your case is having your LAN split into two separate isolated networks which is no longer even a LAN as you will not be able to communicate with the devices between the two building from each other, ie your phone or computer will not be able to "see" any devices in the shop from the house.
Last but not least no need to pay for another data SIM card.
Now with all that said this may in fact be an ideal solution for a "greenfield" installation where someone is starting from scratch and desires an all in one solution to compete with T-Mobile home internet product @ $50 per month ☆IF☆ you have coverage in your area in all cases.

All in for a ~$100 and some digging which you said you were going to do anyway too run a solar / backup power feed.
Also this specific access point in particular would be your best long term investment as it is the absolute state of the art in performance, range and management software. Would also future proof you when you Eventually .... get fiber ISP service.

I'll be making some major changes if this elusive fiber ever shows up to my house. I may or may not keep a cell router as back up internet in case the fiber ever fails for some reason. Working from home internet is key to my income. For now I'm just testing this device since I was asked if I would.

The one bad thing about residencial fiber is although it's fast and reliable is that when it gets damaged it could take days to restore after a failure due to the lack of redundancy. So yeah wireless backup is something you want to keep around on standby.
But other than that and more bandwidth everything else is exactly the same, so don't let that keep you from connecting your buildings together with 1Gig full duplex hardwired ethernet as it doesn't get any better than that for speed, reliability and flexibility.

I've heard really good things about that company in their equipment. I'll be making some significant changes once that fiber shows up.

Problem is I can't move it to the right, it's already over my work tools in that direction.
Put the big flag on the pole and bring in the smaller one.
My flag pole is rated for a max 6ft flag. This one is 15ft.
If its unlimited data then u should b able to get 600 to 700mbs easy with a powerful router capable of pulling 5 to 6 gbps

How do know which service is strongest in your area ? I’ve used signal locator that tells us which direction the antenna is located but can’t figure out which carrier is best for my location.

It would be best to use cell phones to see which one picks up the best at your location. Most rural locations are only covered by one cell tower, that's why the apps or online services work so well for searching that out.
