- This time I thought we could look at another classic game here by Namco which is the second part to their original Steel Gunner arcade. This game was released as an upgrade / conversion for Taito's Operation Thunderbolt. Surprisingly enough, the Arcade manual for Steel Gunner 2 also has the wiring pinouts for Operation Thunderbolt in the back of the manual.
The 90s i swear were the best years . I wish i could go back again and live it again
I hear that man. A lot of emerging technology and even some things we consider simple now that made people go wow.
You and me both my G....
Hey Luke, this looks amazing👍
Looks really good this game, it's a shame the positional mounted gun tech wasn't made somehow accessible for consoles (not counting basic controller movement of gunsights)., Suppose physical twin Uzi's and the gubbins would be mega costly lol. That said an revised version of this tech would be great nowadays with flat screen tvs.
It's really got that Space Gun vibe, love the OTT sound effects and music! Great share dude atb✌️
Trying to showcase these games here as Im able to wire them up. The PS1 had some analog flight controls that could have worked but not sure why they didn't try analog guns for sure. Nevertheless, there is always that possibility that games like this will eventually get ported somehow, we may just have to wait and see.
Thanks as always man for checking things out! Will try to get some other boards up soon.
Some fast action and nice sprite scaling in this one. Hope you are well, Luke!
Thanks as always! some nice scaling for sure and neat to play 😁. Doing great and wishing the same back at you!
I love these super scaler games, i wish we got more of them on home consoles. Great video as always, Luke :)
Thanks a lot there man. I totally agree and I wouldnt be surprised to see if we got something on one of the next gen consoles in the future. Hope all is well !
Hey Luke do you ever have any issues with the gun setups on LCD’s? I was told most older lightgun games don’t work on them. Even CRT’s that have a flat plane supposed to have accuracy issues.
If the aspect ratio isn't set correctly to 4:3 the guns won't register properly and with CRTs, if the brightness is too dim, the guns won't register properly as well. Lots of tricky points and like you said, flat screens can also be a hassle.
what jackass kid is skating down the street during the alien invasion apocalypse?! Love old video game logic. Great looking game
HAHA!! I know right! funny as all hell. Thanks for checking it out! these 90's games really had some wild ideas for sure.
Good Morning Luke 😊
That's another Fantastic looking Retro Arcade Shooter you've shown us 👍
That Power Armor Techspecs cutscene on the intro kinda reminds me of Samus Aran's Armor Suit techspecs when you access the menu in Super Metroid though.
By the way Luke seeing as I don't know how to reach you, let me just ask you this question here...
I'm also subscribed to another American RUclipsr who works and lives in japan like you named Frankomatic. Do you know of him by any chance?
Moring man! No problem at all, just glad to be able to show off some of these boards here 😆. I see what you mean about the suit, I thought a similar thing like megaman, evangelion etc. As an answer to your question, I dont know the person you are talking about but there are a lot more people on the scene now compared to before. Hope you are doing well and thanks as always!
@@lukemorse1 Shoot!
Yeah that Techspecs cutscene plus the character's gauntlet at the very beginning DOES also have a Megaman feel to it as well 😎
As for Evangelion? It's probably because the hero is fighting aliens and is dropped off and picked up by a dropship at the start amd end of levels.
Brilliant looking game and a fantastic job on getting Operation Tiger working, pure genius.
Thanks a million David, really appreciate it a lot! Will keep posting these boards as I can. Several more that need wiring etc but hope to get it done soon!
That board is a beast
It's a dual layered pcb and a bit larger than usual ones for sure but nothing near the size of an Atari primal rage pcb 😃
Thanks Luke for this discovery because I know Namco pretty well, but I have never played this light gun shooter !👍
Great video. Play it like your in the arcade and lite it up!
Haha! awesome. Thanks a million!
Maybe it's the sound or the mech design, but I get a very Metal Combat or Battle Clash for the SNES feel from this, though there's a lot more to do here than in those games.
Smooth scaling. Up to a certain point.
Yeah, it struggles to redraw/keep up at certain points but definitely tried to throw a lot of scrolling on screen at one time.
