    Ian Scott from Anthrax in an interview said : "Tony Iommi wrote every riff there was to write, and everything that came after was just a derivative of it in some way, shape or form. But, for me, it all started with BLACK SABBATH". Tony is genius and even with his "disability" he managed to rock everyone out and arguably set the bases for any kind of metal, but we don't have to forget Geezer and Bill Ward even though he sadly doesn't get enough recognition. Tony lost the tips of 2 fingers in a factory accident so instead of giving up on the guitar he came up with these false fingertips made out of leather and melted plastic. He also would use banjo strings on his guitar because they were easier to press down. Amazing how he found a way! And it gives the band such a unique sound. Love your videos!

    All Black Sabbath albums from the 70s are sacred. Effectively it was the band that created Heavy Metal. Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple also helped to create this musical style, but Sabbath is the main band in this regard. Sabbath: extraordinary excellence in every way.

    • @dylanadams1455
      @dylanadams1455 2 года назад +2

      all of the stylistic things that make metal metal, come from Tony Iommi. I hear people crediting Deep Purple and Zep too, and I love those bands, but they're just not metal. There's nothing much in those bands where you go, "that's metal, metal bands do that all the time". Tritones (other than a passing blue note), galloping palm muted pedal riffs, downtuning. It's all Sabbath. The only thing I can think of that's metal where I can't think of a Sabbath song that uses it is using the minor second interval. When Zep got heavy it was usually in Bonham's beat, not the riffage.

    • @fabiolignelli7372

      @@dylanadams1455 You are totally right. Iommi is the true creator of Metal. His genius and influence is immeasurable. I like countless bands of various styles of metal, including the most extreme ones, but Sabbath has always been my favorite and Iommi has always been my favorite guitarist. In the 80's I loved and still love bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motorhead, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Celtic Frost, Venom, Bathory, etc, etc, etc. But Sabbath has always been at the top of the game and always will be.

      @@dylanadams1455 ''When Zep got heavy it was usually in Bonham's beat, not the riffage.'' Sorry but that is simply wrong. As for influences on Sabbath both Geezer Butler and Ozzy both say that after Led Zep I came out they all 'spent months on our backs, stoned, listening to Zep I over and over'. In what world are Zep not classic heavy riffers? 'Whole Lotta Love, Heartbreaker, Immigrant Song, Achilles Last Stand etc etc etc are not heavy riffers? Really?? Are you deaf?! It may be true that Sabbath are the first truly pure Metal Band in that they stuck with it but Zep, though more diverse and progressive by nature, were the first band doing Metal SONGS. For we metal fans back then (ie before it became known as 'metal' in the MSM) Zep were the first and with their atypically slow 'Dazed and Confused' shared similar dark chords and sluggish doomy atmosphere to Sabbaths early classics. I love Slayer and KYUSS both massive Sabbath fans ! Dave Lombardo is rightly a massive Bonham fan and yes he really is the best drummer ever IMHO and Zeppelins ace in the hole!

      You're correct on that. I can't find the interview now, but Tony has talked about this and they started tuning down around this time to help ease the strain on Ozzy's voice. He then said it didn't work, because Ozzy just started singing higher!
      Looking at live boots from around this tour they had been tuning down various amounts from show to show - half-step down, whole step down, and of course they eventually settled on three half-steps by the time they recorded MoP. (Then, of course, they went back to standard for Technical Ecstasy...)

    For real. I never tried it until college. I remember lying between the speakers of my stereo and listening to a "Hearts of Space" CD. I felt transported and very giggly. It was fucking awesome. I "highly" recommend their CD series. Their stuff is amazing and very random, so you never know what is coming. All good.

    This was the 'Garage-turned-party-den' theme song. Old couch, blacklight posters, cable spool table... 3 or 4 rips from the bong... I'm 15 again (for a minute). Thanks Doug.

    There's a few reactions to this song on YT. To be honest, I'd have expected more, but at least some are there.
    Great that Doug is doing this, even if it's at 4am my time. The sweet leaf will ensure I'm sound asleep at that time!
    Hope you all enjoy the song, the great mans' reaction, and....whatever else ;-)

    Doug, you have to stop doing that 🤣🤣 !!! Every time you inhale, I do too ... and unfortunately, I'm not "with", if you know what I mean and don't know anyone to "be with" anymore, if you know what I mean 🤣🤣. Seriously, love the reaction. It was a hoot. Been loving this song since it came out.

    In my early 30's I had severe stomach pain, turned out to be gall stones. This was the mid 80's so it required major surgery. The surgeon showed me the stones, 3 were about 1/2" diameter along with many smaller pieces. He wondered how I stood the pain that size stone would cause, didn't tell him I was staying quite high.

    As a generations deep farmer from Indiana, raising and consuming "weed" was common in my area...at least I thought it was. I also thought everyone listened to The Godz, Black Sabbath, Black Oak Arkansas, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin and such. Blowing the smoke into the camera with a 😏 (smirk)...top notched....

    'Ole Audiophile to D.Doug, Great pick, great pan, great show bub. I've seen 10 or more of yours, sir. My lone comment on this effort of Sabbath was very minor. It proceeded After Forever, my very favorite track from this recording & a direct thumb in the eye of all those who call Sabbath evil. Thanx.

    Black Sabbath are a lot more accomplished than many later metal bands, Geezer Bill and Tony all cut their teeth in jazz bands. One of the elements of the "doomy" sound is that descent from the fourth to the maj third to the min third.
