There's a lot of bits in 4.1 that are better than 5. 5 adds some quality of life elements like all classes being able to heal NPCs, and being able to keep loot on death, and more weapons being really useful, that maybe makes it the game that's worth your time. I still sometimes play 4.1 and it's a shame that 5 lost some of its nice touches.
I agree 4.1 was a great game. I liked it. My only complaint would be it's the same as 2025 just a few extra missions. Which was not a bad thing. It was another great game. I do like 5 better though.

I love how all my favourite missions have basically copies in Edf 5. I haven’t played 5 yet but this is definitely making me consider getting it. Even though I haven’t beaten 4.1 fully (collected all weapons beating everything up to inferno with all classes)
As an Air Raider main, I miss some of the vehicles from 4.1, Gigantus and Balam is cooler than their 5's counterparts, on the other hand 5 got cooler bike and mechs
I've been trying to decide which of these games to buy. I want to play with my friend and I'll probably be buying his copy. Obviously EDF 4.1 is way cheaper, so it's nice to know there isn't a whole lot of difference between the two.
@@mikiepbg man, I've scrolled through the backwards compatibility list so many times and I never even noticed there were EDF games on it. I've been picking up a bunch of 360 and OG Xbox games for my Series X, so I'll keep an eye out.
I think 2017 is also backwards compatible. It's been a long time since I played it. Don't remember much. Maybe I need to fire it up again. Insect Armageddon is also bc but I didn't like it.
EDF 5 is more diverse and they both have horribly cheesy dialogue, but to me EDF 4.1's enemies are more fun for me to fight because they really feel like aliens and warmachines and the dialogue is a little more "serious". EDF 5's aliens are way too comical for me to take seriously compared to the many robots of EDF 4.1, and of course all the dialogue of 5 isn't as good.

@@NeverGonnashitgold I agree insect Armageddon was awful. That is why I didn't play iron rain I was afraid it was like that. I need to go back and play 2017 again. All of them seem to have a lot of the same stuff in each but the over the top action makes up for it. EDF 5 is the best so far in my opinion.
My biggest pet peeve with 5 is how the script writers go out of their way to not call the ants and spider aliens giant insects like the previous games. They also remark that the giant frogs are “just like humans!” which is beyond stupid in my opinion. The story overall isn’t as good as 4.1 imo. That said, I’m going back to complete it sometime because the weapons and gameplay are too cool not to.
You make a good point. I haven't thought about that much while playing but they do seem to go out of there way with it. Yea the look like they are humans is goofy. Honestly I don't pay much attention to the story. I am addicted to the action and crazy weapons.
@linkers jacken I pay attention to the story telling. I just think it's been underwhelming so far. That doesn't take away from my enjoyment or love of EDF. I am anxiously waiting for EDF 6 and hope for better story telling. I haven't watched any game play vids nor reviews of it. I like experiencing a game for the first time while playing it. FOR THE PRIDE OF EDF!!!
I can modify my save files from my PC on the ps4 using SaveWizard giving me all the weapons and a million armor, its so fun playing on the hardest difficulty even if I dont unlock anything, EDF 5 is probably one of my favorite games of all time
I buy EDF 5 on summer sale now My freinds don't wanna play it says its just insect shooter So i buy the game forced him to play with steam Remota play split screen First mission he hated to much he wanna quit and go play other game 1 week later We end up playing until midnight and we now hate frog that walk with 2 feet the dialog its very very stupid we have a good laugh of it I think im gonna buy edf 4.1
That is similar to my experience with the edf series. A friend suggested me to play it. The first couple missions I wasn't liking it but then I got a few new weapons and the action was picking up. Before I knew it I was hooked.

Edf4.1 is set 8 years after the event of edf 2017. They beat the shit out of the alien and won, rebuilt and actually have weapons ready for another invasion. That's why they got time to make their arsenal aesthetically pleasing and have their song about ready to fight the aliens again Edf5 on the other hand is the first time they encounter these threat. Even the giant ants too (or should i say species alpha because they really go out of their way to not say that it looks like ants, spiders or frog). The fencer and balam was literally just construction and warehouse aid device. Your fencer was literally just a forklift certified dude before he enlisted. Most things in edf5 are designed in a way that reflects the urgency of having a new weapon. Reactivated prototypes, repurposing tools into weapons, etc. Agree on the song tho, it can't have the brashness of 4.1 since they never faced this threat, but the song just sounds too "official", like you'll hear it in public opening ceremony of a new edf base
It's very apparent just how much you love the EDF series. Picking out specific missions and enemy types was very appreciated.
I do love the EDF series. It has became my all time favorite game series.

EDF 4.1 is also cheaper at the moment, so I say it's way more worth it than 5.

I recently played through 4.1 again. I do recommend it. I also played 2025 on the new xbox series x. Plays excellent on it. So I recommend it also.

Hectors are more fun to fight - they have firepower on par with the frogs/greys but they're slower, so it feels a bit more balanced.
I like fighting frogs more since their limbs can be torn apart

It's a southern accent combined with being from the Appalachian Mountains. When I travel I often hear about my accent.
Why didn't you compare the Hectors to the Frogs? That was the main enemy I had a huge problem with them messing with lol.
In EDF 2017 they also have Crimson as a mission. Not sure about the others. If you haven't played 2017 you ought to. Great game.
I have played 2017 it was the first I tried. I have played so much of the others I forgot about missions in it.
