I remember recording this clip on my VHS cassette and watching it over and over again. Wish I was there, but had to attend school. Saw them live for the first time in 88 however in Drammenshallen. My favorite band of all times, still is!
Did I mention that this was filmed on my 19th birthday and that I was right up front in Rockefeller Music Hall in Oslo this night? Got a photo of myself with my friends in front of the BONG. Someone must have brought an instant camera. No mobile phones you know. Would go back in a SECOND.
I was introduced to DM by my cousin who never outgrew 80s music especially DM. I was sheltered and heard DM around 2000 when I was 10. For a while I thought they were this age and had a massive crush on Alan and Martin. I only realized when I was 14 that they were already older and didn’t look like this. 😩 But I still find them cute because they’re one of those once in a life time band. 💕💯🇬🇧
I normally don't like seeing men in leather pants but Dave Gahan and Martin Gore are one of the very few men who are able to look good in leather pants.
I never liked anyone wearing denim or leather (I still don't, they are two of the naffest items of clothing ever, so rough looking) but Alan Wilder in the mid 1980s with his quiff, wearing a leather jacket, was breath-takingly handsome (and talented, the only one I ever liked out of them). Even if you look back at videos now which is all one can do, the sight of him probably gives every woman the quivers. Come back Alan and make some more music!! 💘💥
I’m so glad this was recorded in their prime and I can watch it now thanks to RUclips! When this album came out I listened to it nonstop for months in a loop! It’s that good! Music for the Masses delivered the goods. It’s still one of their best albums. Thanks to whoever uploaded this! 👏🏻🎸😎
Thanx! I uploaded this after ripping it from the online archive of NRK. I also have this on my fathers old Beta video tapes... ;) But most important for me: I was there - a great evening, and they played the song two times! :)
@@jrstange Hey, lucky you if you caught this show live. That’s what it’s all about! I’m glad live shows are happening again. Covid wiped everything out for two years. Unbelievable! Except some webcasts some bands played without an audience. But that’s like eating a Sandwich 🥪 plain with no meat or cheese. It’s like half a loaf 🍞 of bread. Not the complete experience. The audience feedback is crucial for the overall concert atmosphere and experience. Performing and hearing silence doesn’t cut it! At least that’s the way I look at it. Half the fun of a show is hearing the audience react! I’ve been to shows where the audience was a big part of the fun or excitement. Don’t you agree? I went to see the Cure and saw Goths everywhere in their clothes and some even had pale makeup on and I went to see the Kiss reunion Tour back in 96 and a quarter of the audience had Kiss makeup on. It was fun to see all that! Two great live shows I saw along with Smashing Pumpkins Siamese Dream Tour back in 93. I like the excitement of a live show. There’s nothing else like it. Me too! I still listen to it and all depeche mode songs. I think the fact they had such a European vibe added to their aura. They were just so cool. I started listening to them when I was 14. I'm 50 now. They are just as good now. Great to hear from a fellow dm fan!
@@mikey5812 Yeah, they have a European sense of melody. There is something very different there. They don’t sound like an American band at all. A European sensibility? A different vibe and sound. I can’t quite explain it but I hear it in the music. ABBA and Kraftwerk had this too! European style melodies! My parents were both from Europe and I like European music since I was a kid. I like American music and bands too but it’s just very different. American bands are usually R&B or Blues based. A lot of British bands were too but then it changed into something else that I can’t explain what the music is based on. It’s something new. Like you remember Softcell and Duran Duran? British music from the 80s? That is not Music based on the Blues. It’s uniquely European somehow. Good talking to you, too. 👏🏻🎸😎
This style to be all dressed up in leather was kind of a depeche mode label, remember that many young men and teenagers adopted depeche mode style to dress, as well their hairstyle, especially the haircut of Dave, my brother and he's 3 friends of him, they always get dressed up like that and dance like Dave when use to at discotheque back then, really good times, with greats band. 👍🎶
It’s impossible to describe the Depeche Mode of Music for the Masses (their masterpiece) and the power it had over our spirits. Dave Gahan; to be sure, a god - but even more specifically a shaman of sorts live. And those first live performances where we all waved our arms like the wheat in the field from their video for the song😢 … we all palpably became part of that art, and then to see that take on a life of its own and 37 years later still astounding people has been like becoming part of eternity.
I recall this clip as it was yesterday. I remember recording it on a VHS tape and watching it numerous times after this Norwegian Music show ended. Yet another timeless DM classic that people still will be listening to in decades from now! RIP Andy Fletcher - we will surely never let you down!

Real Depeche Mode for me: Dave, Martin, Alan, Andy. Only the 4 of these men. I miss them in one band. I miss that music time. The legend!

Rest in Peace Andrew Fletcher. Such a great loss.
I've heard this song easily about 100 times and it NEVER gets old. It still makes the hair of my neck stand up. So incredible!
