I like how some people were jealous that an asian man became the lead vocalist of journey.
Nah, most people don't care about the race of the singer.. They just hate anyone not named Steve Perry being the lead singer
its not about the race. its about old journey fans not accepting that perry is gone and journey is still kicking with a new frontman. who is also the longest frontman of journey.
nope agree with the others that it's not about the race, but how the voice of Arnel is almost identical to Steve and the fans hate it because they believe that Steve is the only one that can sing those songs at that range, also notice that there are no hates to former vocalist because they sing the song with their own range

@@musicstream26 it's not really about him being a Filipino but rather him being able to emulate the range of Steve Perry, because in that era they only perceived that kind of singing as one of a kind that no one can sing like that, unlike today lots people across the world were able to sing or do other people are doing

However you can believe what you want to. You can see jonathan cain remove his hand from the keyboard to fix something and the piano doesn't stop playing. Accept it, this whole performance was mimed. I'm not saying Arnel is bad anyways, F1 and the people who invited the band told Journey to mime the performance

we all know that Steve Perry is the heart of Journey, but this man right here Arnel Pineda keeps that heart beating. Give some love!
If Arnel did a bad job i would understand the criticism.
But him coming from such a humble place makes it even more than earned.
Perry is just another singer. This guy now does it better than him. He's old, move on. And an egomaniac, else he would've just taken his place and done his job. Later Perry, you've been erased.

Arnel is continuing the legacy of the great band Journey!
No one can replace the original Steve Perry, but Arnel is keeping him alive in the band!
unfortunately in these circumstances somethings are best left to retire. or if they want a new singer form a new band and put some new music out so you're not constrained and also compaired to that original artist

Those who love comparing are those who cannot move on, they should also accept the fact that SP does NOT want to do LIVE Rock Journey Concerts anymore, even Arnel Pineda from the very beginning publicly claimed he would step back anytime Steve Perry decided to return, but SP declined..SP admitted in an interview in 2018 that he likes to stay SOLO ( Traces Album ) and will do his ownTour, but never materialized!
-- SP is still on Journey's payroll, receiving a 12.5% percentage each time Journey band goes on Live Tour including sales on paraphernalia..A great benefit for SP!!.
**So, if NO Journey Live Concerts, it will be a disadvantage on SP's part..
Arnel is the best vocalist that Journey could currently have. He sounds great! It would be nice to see Steve Perry as a guest but he could not hit the notes any longer for the classic Journey Catalog. Let's not take Arnel for granted, he is a treasure.
Totally agree… he isn’t a Steve Perry clone but a great replacement and I saw Journey live in 1983 and was absolutely in awe of how Steve Perry hit notes just like the albums. I would put Steve in his heyday the best rock and roll singer of all time.
The range and duration of his notes are astounding. Arnel…a close second.

Rock stars do get sick too while traveling, due to the brutal way of Concert scheduling even famous rock stars just as Sting, Steven Tyler, and Rod Stewart experienced those feelings under the weather. Even SP himself in a 2018 Interview claimed his vocals had suffered too, and stopped the first time he left Journey to save his voice!!.. Their schedules can be rough and tight!! I saw Arnel in March 2018 in his Live Concert with Journey, he sounds amazing!!

Arnel was brought in to continue a legacy sound that was made popular with Perry on lead vocals.He was not brought in to go in a different direction and thus he "sounds like" the original.Neal Schon said so in interviews why he made the effort to bring AP to the fold.AP is a Perry fan himself and has tremendous respect for the man.Just enjoy the music.Lets all enjoy it and cross our fingers that Steve might one day return and do even just one song with the old crew.That would be a blast.
And Steve himself is an Arnel fan and supporter. He gave Arnel much public love at Journey's Roack and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony in 2017. Steve approves.

Arnel is a wonderful singer and best thing that Journey had since Steve. Without him, Journey would not be relevant and heard by millions over the last 15 yrs. Respect for his contributions to keep Journey music alive all these years.

To be fair they were heard in the mainstream before he joined . The Soprano's last episode , Glee , etc . All the popular tv shows . To say Journey would not be "relevant" is not true Their albums sold millions upon millions way before Arnel . Whether they continued to tour or not would not impact that .

I don't think Journey on their 50th Anniversary will do such a thing, they are not stupid!! The well-rested Arnel in this performance deserved much respect.. I just saw him at the venue of their LIVE Tour Concert with Journey and he truly sounds amazing!!

There are only handful of singers that can hit high notes in their 50's and Arnel is one of them, he's the catalyst of the band. He truly deserves a recognition.

@@dormamo6917, Yes, I saw Arnel performing at the venue of Journey Concert this year{2023), and he looks like 20 years younger!! In an interview, he said he followed good eating habits, exercised, and did no drugs as he learned his lesson at a younger age, he knows what it could do to his voice..

It would keep their frontman of 16 years, AP more inspired !!
I've been listening to Journey since my college days. It was with my Sony Walkman with the cassette tapes. And they're still at it, changing lead vocals, they still entertain!!

The killer for any band is when their lead singer departs. IMHO, the experience and sound is never the same with a replacement, but Arnel...is incredible and the band is very, very lucky to have found someone with a voice like that.

I gotta be honest, I've seen so many RUclips videos where Arnell just didn't sound good at all, and now all these years later in this show and song he sounds so fucking crystal clear and dead on w his vocals, amazing. JUST AMAZING HOW HIGH HE HITS HIS NOTES, I LOVE IT!!!!
I shared the same concern and was actually worried that he'd mess up in one if his performances. I thought he needed a long break to recover his vocal prowess.
Then covid came and it turned out to be a huge blessing in disguise for him.
I'm now happy and not at all worried for him.
He's back!
Also I do believe that some videos quality play a role. I saw them in concert he sounded amazing
@johncyr32,I totally agree with you, sometimes, it depends on how exhausting the Tour can be at the worst time of the season and the brutal scheduling they have doing Live Tour Concerts, even SP himself in an interview(2018) voiced out that his vocals were suffering at times! They are all human after all, even Sting and Steven Tyler have those moments on Tour when they felt sick in an instant!. At least AP was NOT in the middle of the Tour, he sounds well-rested, It's great that Arnel kept the Journey legacy alive.(>16 years with Journey as frontman! ). The journey band has to take care of their asset, Arnel, it would be suicide to let him go, now that Neal/Schon are in their senior years!!.BTW, I just saw Journey with AP on LIVE Concert ( 2022, and 2023) at the venue, they put up an incredible show each time! Such a powerhouse performance!!AP even appeared half his age, with superb energy on stage!!
Dean drummer has said many times that Arnel had problems with his in ears för years then they hired a new sound man and boom he could nail the singing again
He must be tired some of those days. He is human just like us. But if you get enough rest then as a human you can do your work very well.
