Most associate Narita with the International Airport- while traveling to Japan, there’s a good chance that this is your first stop! However, not many people realize that Narita is way more than an airport, keeping the area of Naritasan a hidden in plain sight gem!
Shizuka heads to Chiba prefecture to check out this often overlooked area. Dressing up in a summer-style kimono, called a yukata, Shizuka explores Naritasan Omotesando and samples the local specialties along the way. Soft, savory rice cakes and refreshing sweets can’t compete with the true culinary star of the day - eel! The long, slippery aquatic creatures are surprisingly tasty, and the perfect meal for a hot summer day.
FEATURED FOODS:
Senbei: This version of the rice cake is fluffy and comes on a stick for an easy on-the-go snack!
Gold sesame soft cream: Smoothie, milky soft cream with heaps of powdered sesame on top.
Goma torori: Squishy, chewing rice dumplings filled with rich black sesame jam.
Unagi pan: Fluffy bread filled with eel.
Frozen Amazake: A fermented rice drink that’s a byproduct of sake, served as a slushy.
Unaju: Grilled unagi over rice.
Umaki: Tamagoyaki mixed with unagi, aka rolled egg and eel.

Are you a fan of eel? What is your favorite way to eat it? Let us know!:)
Unagi!!! Maybe a unagi rice bowl. 😊
Luv the vid! And you look BUSSIN' in that kimono, my guy. 👌♥️🇵🇭
Love you’re videos and you look great 😊
It looks delicious, but I’ve never had it. Hopefully this year…
anago nigiri
Honestly, Shizuka is a top class host/presenter.
Shizuka, I've not had a crush in probably about 20 years, but UGH...! 💘
I never saw someone so elegant looking when wearing "yukata" until I saw you 🤩
Shizuka looking incredibly beautiful in a Yukata/Kimono as always, and the food looks incredibly delicious, amazing to see this experience, don't think I've ever had eel before but I want to try it now
浴衣姿とてもステキです 青い帯と帯どめも可愛いですね👍
ありがとうございます☺️♪
You look beautiful ❤️ shizuka !
Amazing presentation 👍, always the best , good job and god bless you 🙏
Thank you! Cheers!
First, you looked absolutely gorgeous in the traditional clothing, which made this an extra charming adventure. Then...unagi in so many ways! My absolute favorite sushi, but I had no idea it could be served so many ways. When you took the lid off the unagi and rice box...oh my goodness! 😳🤤🥰
Thank you so much for watching! Shizuka looked stunning in her yukata and unagi was delicious indeed!
shizuka is so beautiful in a kimono 😍
Shizuka you made the yukata beautiful, another very enjoyable tour.
Shizuka presents a great Show as Always!
Thank you for watching!
Earl is one of my favorites
Unagi bread?! That's crazy I've never heard of it, but I would love to try it.. Unagi is so good, I make broiled unagi donburi at home :)
Oh that's cool! Unagi donburi is classic!
Shizuka = Stunning! ♥️♥️♥️🇵🇭
Thank you so much!
I love exploring Japan with you 😊!! You're really fun, I love how you enjoy the foods you eat. May God be with you everywhere you go, God bless 🙏. Thank you for another awesome video!!
Thank you! You too!
Great videos! Keep rocking it Shizuka!
The food you eat is great. Keep it coming all the way. Konichiwa.
My favorite food channel
another great video....Ive never had Eel but looks like worth trying when in japan! Arigato...
Between that beautiful Yukata, Shizuka’s geniality and the mouthwatering food 😋, I’ve filled up with positivity for this week.
Arigato Shizuka & Crew!
We are glad to hear that!
When I was a kid, I remember my parents making the 2 hour drive to Los Angeles. And sometimes they would come back with little tins of unagi. A small tin of eel was inexpensive since mainly Japanese bought them. And my mom would mix that tin with a pot of rice and bam! Eel flavored rice! Such a treat! Such a memory!
That is so wonderful! Glad that this video could bring back such warm memories!
This video was good. I need more of this street food videos 😊
There will be plenty more!
I love unagi and I've always regretted not visiting Narita. This is great motivation
everything that the Japanese does, is a mastery 💌🎌
I loved this video! Such a beautiful area and you looked amazing in traditional Yukata. Fresh senbei made me want to eat one too. I love unagi and I've been dying to eat unagi in Japan from a shop where unagi masters are showcasing their craft. I'm adding this to my list of places to visit upon my return trip to Japan. Thank you so much for sharing.
We are so glad you enjoyed it! You will like Narita for sure!
Cool!!! Go Shizzy!!! 😊
Thanks! 😄
This episode has all of the things I love about this channel. It had a variety of vendors that are in a specific area. They shared the history and techniques of their shops. It has the exteriors as well so it feels like being part of the journey between them. Last but not least, Shizuka was dolled up and looking extra beautiful. Thanks
We love making these kinds of videos for you! Thank you for watching!
We watched your video and visited the places you recommended during our visit, last week. We had a great time and thank you again for the informative video.
Oh my goodness! So happy to hear that!
I have been to Narita and loved it! Super charming! Shizuka was gorgeous in her summer kimono and all the food she showcased was awesome! Such a fantastic video!
We totally agree!
That unagi restaurant and dish looked amazing!!
It is a must visit!!!
Beautiful market
I'll come here just for the grilled Unagi! I've been curious for such a long time!
Yes, please do visit!
Unagi, the one meal I still haven’t tried authentically in Japan!😢
I will defo save this and will try next time I visit Japan!
ありがとうございます。
That was fun!
I love love love unagi.. first I ate in Japan!
Glad to hear that!
Yes we been to that UNAGI place such a beautiful building too!!!! And such a long history too!!!!
👍🏻
Wow delicious 😋 💯
that laugh 5:04 is so wholesome it cured my depression :)
He was a very wholesome guy!
Anofher successful Shizuka vlog !
Thank you for watching!
I've had so many foods. Never eel. The Edo Yaki looked yummy. Oishi. Be well. And you looked so graceful & beautiful in the kimono.
You should definitely try it out!
Sweet Shizuka...so shizulicious 😘
Very interesting … I love the food presentation…. Oishi
Being a chef many things for learning from these types of video for making new recipes 😀❤️ 😍
Our pleasure!
I haven’t had a good unagi in decades. That did look good.🤤
In kantou style besides having to steam it before baking they cut open unagi from “back side” since cutting from stomach side was bad omen for samurai.
How interesting! Thank you for sharing!
Japanese Kimono ftw!
what a beautiful yukata!
It really suits Shizuka!
@@JapanbyFood Agreed! As usual Shizuka looks fabulous!
I always stop by there before my flight back. Always get a bunch of senbei.
Oh cool! Do you buy from Hayashida?
The yukata suits you!
Nice episode
Thank you for watching!
@@JapanbyFood having fun watching it ishika your pretty love your looks stay safe
Never tasted it but it looks delectable
We highly recommend it!
Shizuka in kimono 🥰
Anago, Unagi, all eels are tasty as long as they're sustainable. 😋😋 Love the walk abouts.
Thank you for watching!
Shizukaaaaaaa
Unagii!!! 🤤🤤
The best!
Unagi is popular in Narita during the Edo period
Are these places open during December, looking forward to traveling to these places.
"Unagi!!!" -Ross Geller
so old-school styles...
日本楽しんでくださいね🇯🇵
Everything looks yummy! Question: How large do the sizes go on the yukatas/kimonos?
Yukata is very flexible in terms of size. It is easily adjustable:)
Lovely street…. Is it easy to get here from Narita Airport? .. good for those who have to layover for several hours… like Dubai Airport offers short city tours … Looks like a good last place to visit before catching your flight back home
Very easy! In fact, many flight attendants come here for a short trip whenever they have a layover in Japan :)
3 things Japanese love? Eels, Eggs and Alcohol. That covers it. LoL.
💕
You are the most beautiful in the kimono.
She is
Aww thank you both! 🥰🥰
♥
looking amazing, but I cant help but wonder how tight they are to wear if you are out on a long eating adventure!!!!!
It gets more and more challenging the more you eat :P
Unagi is being served boneless? Where has this been all my life!
Please try!
it would be good if you put the locations of the restaurants in the description
fixed!
Shizuka in a kimono is just mesmerizing... Empress Shizuka should not be walking around on her own, she should be carried around.
13 beautiful 😍
Thank you! Cheers!
Is that yukata a modern one with zip? I love shiroyaki. Most unagi sauces are too sweet for my taste
This yukata has no zip :) Actually, this is the first time we have heard of a yukata with a zip!
oh really?!
Does the Teriyaki sauce for the grilled Unagi contain any alcohol?
She really is!
Narita is 2 hours away from Tokyo
I want eel over steamed rice now...
We feel ya!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This channel gets twice as many views when Shizuka is on Wonder why?
Unaju looked good and amazake. The unagi filled bread seriously doesn't sound appetizing.
We were actually obsessed with the unagi bread! It was a new experience but totally worth it!
I'm curious how much it costs to rent a yukata and get it done. My wife thinks it's hundreds of dollars for one day and she's too shy to ask the clerks
You can find places with affordable options that start from 3000 yen!
😁
You look so beautiful!! Can you also rent an outfit for men?!
Yes, it is possible!
She looks really pretty.
The food does too. Extremely. haha
Yes, food and Shizuka both:)
It would be nice if the shop owners would put English and Japanese on menus and signs. Do you think that will ever happen?!
Many times, restaurants have menus in English, not always on display, but they provide it once they see you struggle:)
I always stared at that Unagi man cutting, its too fast, I stared every time at few hours
They are truly exceptional at what they are doing!
Wow, you look onolishes
Unagi in a bun
The best!
Red is your color Shizuka.
It definitely is!
😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
Personal preference! Don't like Unagi at all! Like other kind of fish instead! Is it a snail or fish anyway!🙃😆Hamachi is great!
Fair enough! Unagi is not for everyone but we still appreciate its uniqueness!
I Love your videos.
You belong in jeans.
My decision only!
These videos are great and you are a great presenter Shizzy,. I watch all your videos! But the lastest C19 news out of Tokyo is not good. Japan is ruled by the elder class and they have made it clear that gaijin tourists are not welcome. I would be very happy to be proven wrong, but I predict another “state of emergency “ coming in November, and closing of the borders again. So depressing that we cannot come to Japan freely.
