Bob James was sampled like crazy in hip hop. Aside from this, Nautilus and Take Me To Mardi Gras are 2 other highly sampled cuts.
Angela is also great. Was a theme song for a TV show called "Taxi", but a great standalone track.

Bob James is one the grooviest funk jazz artists from the 70s....and yes...Bob was also the arranger and played on the great Grover Washington Jr albums

Thank God jazz artists are still making it like this. It's more commercial pop, rock & r & b that has lost so much out its' music with computer generated beats, over reliance on technological sourced sounds, lack of authentic instrumentation and autotune. Just takes the craft, art and soul out of the music. Musicianship is what keeps us older music fans, fans of jazz artists when commercial music on the radio no longer has much appeal. Welcome to the world of contemporary or smooth jazz. You have such a deep rabbit hole to get into. Play some Norman Brown, Nathan East, Sadao Watanabe & Kirk Whalum. Just a few of many smooth jazz artists out there.

I feel like hip-hop owes Bob James his flowers for how many times he's been sampled. And I'm sure someone mentioned it in the comments already but Storm King and One Mint Julep from this album are bangers as well. Check out Ginseng Woman from Eric Gale- you can pretty much put that and Westchester Lady back-to-back and it would be a seamless transition because they both sound like something from a 70's cop show.

You hear so much music, it’s hard for you to remember what you’ve heard! 🤣. Not mad at that, it’s definitely an enrichment process, no doubt! Probably mentioned before that Just The Two of Us was a cut off Grover Washington Jr.’s album called Winelight. Of course, yes the cut featured Bill Withers’ vocal, & clearly the lyrics had to be his writing, but Grover was the headlining artist. When you heard, You Are My Starship, yes Norman Connors, is leader of the Starship Orchestra band, but he’s also the drummer, not the lead singer, who is Michael Henderson, the bass player. Phylis Hyman had a hit song, Can’t We Fall in Love Again, which was really a duet with Michael Henderson, but it was her album & she was considered the feature artist. Earl Klugh’s Livin Inside Your Love, lead vocalist is Vivian Cherry, but it’s Earl’s song & guitar work. Actually the very 1st sound you hear on Grover’s Mr. Magic, which you’ve also listened to, is Bob James on Fender Rhodes keyboard. The movie Taxi Driver, starring Dinero, is definitely no relation to the t.v. show. Masterful musician, pianist , arranger producer. His group, Fourplay, did a remake on Marvin Gaye’s Dance With Me, that featured El DeBarge on lead vocal.

JJ you hit on one of my favorite albums Bob James 3 is a beast. This song I believe was used in the movie " Bruce Lee the man the myth". The song off the same album called " Storm King " was sampled by New Edition for " Hit me off". Most of the album is early smooth jazz and top production and musicians.

I first heard this song in high school in the early 70's on the radio. They played it as a lead in top of the hour before the news. I searched and eventually found the title and artist. After I moved to Atlanta, Bob James was the first the first artist I ever paid to go see. That was during the "Touchdown Tour"!!! Check out "Heads", especially the song "Night Crawler". Bob James is a BEAST!!!

Bob James is so smooth and dynamic in his delivery, right? Bought his album "One" when I was a junior in high school. Was the first fully instrumental album I ever bought. Many classic tracks there too, incl the one everyone is mentioning being heavily sampled "Nautilus", in addition to Roberta Flack's "Feel Like Making Love" and a wild take on Mussourky's classical piece "Night On Bald Mountain".

Well renowned musician & composer i think the song is based on some lady in Westchester NY if anyone would correct me. Bob got to be at least in his 80s by now. So many rappers & singers sampled his music including Eric B & Rakim, Public Enemy, Tupac too many to name. Did you know John Fletcher aka "Ecstasy" of Whodini & MF Doom recently died? Both legends in the hip hop game
