Hey Sarah This video was very helpful and now you have become my one stop for all my copywriting learning’s I spend one hour everyday with you to learn the skill ( as you said 😌) Can’t thank you enough. God Bless.
Hey Sarah. Good video. :) How did you get your first ever client and were you nervous about not getting the results you and the client were hoping for?
Hey, Sarah! Since it's 2023 and a lot has been changed since you posted this video, do you think the these techniques are still relevant for 2023? Also, just wanna ask if you have tried enriching your customer/client leads to unlock email addresses that are hidden?
Yes, these techniques are absolutely still relevant. You can also check out this video for cold emailing tips. ruclips.net/video/7A7Wwhboi-U/видео.html These are tips that help my students get their first clients even now. And Hunter.io is a great resource for finding email addresses. :)
Thank you for taking the time to make this video Sarah. I have learned quite a lot. So I have been going back and forth on cold emailing. I am fairly new in the freelancing world. So I don't really have proof of my skill. Just some samples. I often wonder what to include in my emails to show my expertise. Secondly, I can't tell the right company and person to pitch. I am in the tech niche and have no idea the right companies to work with. Also, who is the right person to send the email to? The CEO? Content manager? Meanwhile, I would love for you to tell us how to charge clients and how to handle those that want free samples or those that won't put a milestone before work begins.
Hey Alice! I definitely recommend waiting to cold email until you've created your portfolio and a website that showcases your skills. I offer a free course on copywriting that answers a lot of your questions. You can check it out here: www.writeyourwaytofreedom.co/6-months-to-copywriting-freedom
Question, though. If you find more than one person you can e-mail within that company, is it best to e-mail them individually? Like a marketing director & content writer. If so, can it be the same message? I know copy/paste is a horrible game plan but what if they're people from the same company? Thanks.
Great video Sarah! Your points are spot on and direct. Always very helpful. Thank you! My question in regards to this is what systems do you have in place - after you cold email, get responses and obtain your max amount of clients for the time being - for future follow up based on if they responded or not, or if they asked you to check back later, etc.? I believe follow through and follow up are so important and always look for ways to improve upon these areas. Especially because it’s so smart to keep the professional line of communication open when/if possible. Thanks in advance,
Hey Sarah- thank you for all of your videos. You have really encouraged me to start getting into freelance copywriting, something I have wanted to do for YEARS and just never pushed myself between working full time and being a student. But I am getting there! I wanted to know what you thought about the website Writers Work? I just discovered it and they have training, etc. but the main thing I looked at was that they can help you find jobs and clients. The membership costs money and I am always weary of paying for something that I could learn on my own, or may not need. Thought I would check with you first before considering taking the plunge. Thanks!
For subject lines it's best not to overthink it. Try to do something simple yet personal. The more personalized the better. Also, asking a simple question works well.
Hi Sarah, just starting out on my freelance journey and the videos are super helpful so thank you....I'm wondering if it would be possible for you to get into some real practical detail without it taking a whole hour to record the video....? I'm thinking of file formats, software and hardware, submitting content and copy to a client; whether you format the page layout and choose the fonts yourself etc. Maybe following a project all the way through the process from client need to finished writing? Sorry for the epic message!
I recommend spending the first part of your day working on your business - including outreach - before starting on client work. It’s all about what works for you. Try different routines and strategies until you find something that’s sustainable.
@@SarahTurnerAgency thank you so much!!! That was honestly what I wanted to do but I felt guilty not putting clients first. LOL. I often don’t have the same motivation level/dopamine to overcome my resistance and do the outreach at night, whereas there’s more motivation (activation energy) in the morning. (Lol I’ve been nerding out on Andrew Huberman!). HThank you that is so helpful, you are generous and wise and so appreciated!!!
Sarah The first time when you finding your clients do you have your own website at that time or you created it after became comfortable with your business
I created my website with my portfolio before cold emailing my clients. You want to present yourself as a professional and having a website shows you know what you're doing. Clients can see your portfolio and know you deliver amazing copy.
I take an image of the piece and link it to the portfolio piece. Don't copy and paste the copy onto your website. Having your copy in two different places will hurt your website and your client's SEO.
Sarah i understand that everything you said about it .but what i want to know is i do not have any portfolio at all so where can i get my portfolio for my website. i mean how can i get portfolios when i have no clients.if i have any clients they might be give me some of my work copy but right now i am trying to find clients so how can i get it.or Can i create my own research samples about particular projects.
@@antonydevros75 Create a portfolio with practice pieces you've created. The client only cares about you being able to do the work. It doesn't matter if the project was real or not so long as you're able to show your competence. 1. Pick a niche you're interested in 2. Create your own projects around that niche 3. Add your work to your portfolio. Vuala! You now have a portfolio
Hey Sarah! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your videos! You mentioned marketing skills a few times. I am not from the business world, so I feel weak in this area. What would be the top 3 best skills to learn for someone like me? Thanks! (CUTE shirt!)
I would say work on mindset (including your money mindset), customer service skills or interacting professionally and time management. Tim Ferris and the Four Hour Work Week is a great resource. Batch your work and don't let time consuming tasks take up the most productive times of your day. The Slight Edge was another great motivator for me!
You'll create your portfolio after studying copywriting techniques. You can do this by reaching out to local business owners, writing an article on Medium, writing one or two pieces of copy for a job board, and/or reaching out to more experienced copywriters in your niche.
I wouldn’t recommend that. Work on building your portfolio and website first and you’ll have a better response rate. You can use sites like Squarespace to create your website if you're not knowledgeable about website design.
sara ,I am a new start-up in niche nurse recruiting . I can get clients to open an email or LinkedIn message but can't get traction no appointments. What can I do?
I always direct clients to my website and offer a free 15 Minute Consultation to get them on the phone. I would recommend reviewing your cold email and seeing where you can make it better. Lastly, don't give up! You never know what's going on in your potential client's life/business right now. I've heard back from some clients 2 years after I sent them a cold email. I recommend setting a goal for how many cold emails you want to send out each day and don't worry about the no responses as much.

When and how do i follow up on my cold email?
This depends on you, your industry, and the business you’re reaching out to. Most people send a follow up email between 3-10 days.

I haven’t used Writers Work personally. But have heard from a few students it wasn’t worth it.
How long should a cold email be? Is there a length we shouldn't go beyond?
Just long enough that you can show value and address pain points. There’s no one right way
