This video clarifies the gradual pathway to success as a copy writer. It is not a get rich quick scheme for sure. It is a skill set to be developed. Thank you for this one!!!
Copywriting is a ton of hard work. But the great thing about being a freelancer is that you're building something for yourself. And that is so rewarding!
I love watching your videos. This was a great one with awesome advice I never considered before. I used to write articles for people on Fiverr a few years ago, it's where I got a lot of experience and confidence in my writing, but it wasn't paying enough. After a year I barely earned $500, but it was a great learning experience. Thanks again for creating this video for us aspiring copywriters.
I started out on job boards too. I learned a ton but struggled to pay the bills. That's why I recommend reaching out to your own clients. You can find businesses that really understand the value of copy and are willing to pay what your writing is worth.
Thanks Sarah. Wish you had been an online advisor for newbie writers 20 years ago. Your breakdown for each step (to becoming a professional copyrighter) cuts through the extraneous blah-blah-blah that tends to squash the excitement of delving into new territory. Informative, concise, and encouraging is the ticket. 😄
Thanks so much for your feedback! Most people that discover copywriting wish they had sooner, including me lol. We are so fortunate to live in a time when there's so much access to great information! And there are way more opportunities now then there were for previous generations.
Thank you for the information. I have finally decided to quit the rat race and become a copywriter to spend more time with my family. Also make a decent living from it. Your videos have been very helpful in making this decision. Thank you
OMG...you're an angel sent from copywriting heaven! I bought a program in 2020 and now your videos are filling in the gaps for me! Thank you in advance...You are Awesome!
I purchased your course at the end of March 2023 and have struggled to really get started. This video is *exactly* what I needed to motivate me. When I'm feeling distracted or like I just can't do this, I watch a student success story or coaching replay...it helps to remind me WHY I'm doing this. Thank you for posting this, you have reignited my excitement for this new chapter in my life.
Having a strong “why” will definitely motivate you to keep going when it feels challenging. And don’t forget to lean on the community for support! Remember it’s soooo important to focus on one step at a time. There’s a lot to learn and do, but if you focus on the “Slight Edge” strategy, you’ll be so surprised how much you can accomplish within a few short months! You got this!
I’m currently in my senior year of college majoring in communications & media, and i plan to soon start my own freelance copywriting business. thank you so much for this, it was very helpful! :)
Wow! Your background in communications and media will help you so much! Let me know if you have any questions about starting your copywriting business. I'm always happy to help.
it's really nice not talking to robots and just a warm human being:) i bought a course and i literally felt SO alone because it felt too freaking static. i learned a lot but i truthfully felt alone. maybe it was because of my age and everyone was older? i joined in a course when i was seventeen and i just turned eighteen, but i really am interested in copywriting. i write all the time in my journals every since i was younger. i love hearing this advice from you!! it makes me smile wide! I've joined a community called WorldTonic for young gen z writers specifically for copywriting, but i'd LOVE to purchase your course too someday or even sooner than i think. i honestly think you're freaking awesome & incredibly engaging--i can see read it in your email list i'd subscribed to! also when you say handcopy, do you mean copy down what was written? if so, while i write it, can i rewrite parts of it and gloss it better? change some things as i write? or it is foolish as a baby in this practice and not by the hands of the winning copy I'm supposed to be copying? :)
Community is so important because freelancing can feel lonely. That's why the Write Your Way to Freedom community is one of my favorite parts of my program. Everyone is so supportive, and we all want to see each other succeed. 😊 Copying successful ads by hand helps you start to recognize copywriting techniques. This is your time to study what they do, why they do it, and reflect on where you see similar techniques in your daily life. Swiped.co is a great place to find successful ads swiped.co/
I appreciate all of your feedback! Can you elaborate on what you mean by copy copy. I went on swiped and started studying the samples they have, but should I be writing what they have on there or trying to create my own.
I recommend handcopying successful copy when you’re learning because it helps you recognize copywriting techniques and shows how you can apply them to your own practice.
Feel free to check out my video on SEO here. ruclips.net/video/RgE12Pl6wFE/видео.htmlsi=Q-HK1h-LeVdsqiCV And try not to overthink it! When you apply the basic concepts you’ll be surprised at the results!
Do you have a video on the process of landing a deal with a new/potential client. I can’t imagine what to say, or even how to explain what copywriting is. Thanks!! ☺️
Your first contact with a potential client is usually with cold emails. You can check out both of my videos about how to set up your cold email and get great results.
Hey, Sarah! Re: the student who made local businesses his/her niche: is that student active in the FB group? Or has there been a success story or testimonial featuring that person? As an active resident in a small community in a large city, I'd love to hear more on this. TIA!
A CTA is a call to action. Copywriting always has the goal of getting the reader to do something. This can be signing up for a newsletter, giving an email address, or buying a product. A thought leader is someone who is influential in a certain area/niche. There’s a lot of jargon when it comes to copywriting and marketing, so learning as you go is completely fine!
I have landed two copy clients and am writing website copy for them, but I have never experienced this much imposter syndrome in my life. I am not getting paid that much less; it's good pay for a beginner, but the imposter syndrome is holding me back. I have no idea how to deal with it.
First of all, congratulations!! This is just the beginning and these experiences are going to teach you so much! Mindset work is such an important part of the entrepreneurial journey. And there's no end to it. You never get to a point where you don't need to improve. But it is SO worth it! Living with the right mindset will take you so far in business and in life. You have many options here including blogs and emails. When you speak with businesses they'll let you know their goals and you can propose what kinds of services will help them reach those goals.
Yes. :) When you’re starting to learn copywriting, hand copying successful copy allows you to start recognizing copywriting techniques. It allows you to reflect on what they were doing in their copy and why.
Sarah Thank you so much you really calm my nerves. I am struggling to decide how much time I should devote to learning specific aspects of copywriting for example web copy because I feel I need to be good at all -- ads, sales pages to earn well.
Actually, there are a lot of copywriters that specialize in just one type of copy. I recommend starting with blogs because it's the fastest way to establish a steady, predictable income since they're needed on a regular basis. Once you feel comfortable doing that, you can add another type of copy. There's no one way to build your business. It's whatever feels right for you. If learning all types of copy at once is overwhelming, then chose one to start with. You got this!
@@SarahTurnerAgency Do you any video on blogs I can refer to? The thing I am concerned with is how to convince a client that a blog can be copywriting and not just content writing.
I'm just starting, just doing some practice on some local business websites. I've not sure how to approach getting the nominal payment I'm asking for website rewrite or website copy that I suggest. I'm considering only charging $20. and I'm telling the business owners that I am a student right now. should I use PayPal or Zelle just for the moment?
I'd recommend checking out my video on pricing. Hi Sarah, thank you for another great video! ....Can you go into more detail or give tips on how you pitch to potential clients? I think that is where I am stuck the most. Thanks!
I build my entire business with cold emails. I have 2 videos on how to set up your cold emails and reach out to potential clients. When they book a call with you, that's your opportunity to learn about their business and see what their needs are. Then you follow up after the call with an email that has your proposal for services. It's good to give a few different options so they have some wiggle room in their budget. If you have any questions, you can shoot me an email at freedom@sarahturneragency.com
Hi, Sarah. Isn't working with companies that compete within the same niche a kind of complicated if you have to follow a non-disclosing policies of some kind. How do you cope with that? I believe it does not happen a lot, right?
Most copywriters don't come across conflicts of interest, even if they work with clients in the same niche. Details like non-disclosure policies are usually addressed in the contract you sign with clients. That way there are no misunderstandings.
You can do a google search for copywriters in your niche, then reach out through their website, send them an email, or reach out on social media, especially LinkedIn. Remember that it's not about you; it's about how you can help them and make their job easier.
There are tons of helpful tutorials on RUclips for pretty much anything you'd want to learn how to do. I like using Squarespace because the templates are beautiful and modern, very professional looking.
