    Just to clear any confusion: Most of these tips are for going to the non-tourist areas of Haiti. The tourist areas are similar to other islands in the Caribean and require less preparation. I have visited prior without any prep, but went to a high tourist area. If you are going to a non-tourist area, you'll enjoy it more if you know what to expect. I have really enjoyed all of my trips there.

      The reason we share this with Americans going to Haiti is not to put off on Haiti but if you were coming to America there's certain places and Los Angeles California I would want to keep you out certain places in Atlanta Georgia I would want to keep you out certain places in New York I would want to keep you out of it's not that we're trying to display any poverty level I can show you deep poverty in America is we're wanting to protect people that does not have the immune system that they're wonderful people of Haiti have I know Haiti has a beautiful places I live there a number of years and loved it and I love the Haitian people but just like in America you have to learn the danger spots in the rough spots you also have to do that in any country God bless Haiti

    Thank you so much! Some great reminders for me there. I am leaving for Haiti next week, and totally pumped! It will be my fourth visit and I am staying 4 months. I believe their greatest resource is their people. They are truly amazing! They are kind, friendly and helpful and know what's important in life. I love them! They rely on each other for information. I recommend you do the same. Talk to the locals and find a few that you trust. (Maybe not right outside the airport). They can tell you which vendors have food that our stomachs can handle (there are some bacteria that are foreign to our digestive system and can cause problems) and how to get around safely. I cannot deny the dangers inherent in a third world country, and I would not go there without someone to meet me at the airport and guide me. Taxis /transit are not what you would expect and you need the guidance of someone who knows the area. Of course, traveling with a cruise ship or travel guide would be perfectly safe. MWEN REMEN AYITI!!

      I was just there for around a week. As far as other tips: Make sure the money you bring doesn't have rips or tears in it. The rest is rather dependent on what you end up doing there. Hope you have a great time and get a lot accomplished! (Take time to get to know the people. That was one of my favorite parts. We have two of our friends from Haiti visiting us here this month)

      John Nam if you Haven’t make it to Haiti... my advice for you will be to go help those homeless plp in the state before you can start worrying about other countries. Haiti is a Voodoo island, we believe in staying close to our ancestors our roots and our spirituality. Keep your white washing Christianity to yourself. First your kind says black plp didn’t have a soul to be safe... now all of a sudden ya in a mission to save black plp’s soul 🤦🏽‍♀️

    • @TheFriendlyReviewer

      The larger hotels, grocery stores, etc... may accept credit cards, but many places will most likely require cash. It can depend on where you are staying and what you will be doing. You can contact the place where you are staying ahead of time to make sure. Check the cash you bring with you to make sure it doesn't have tears/rips in it as they sometimes won't accept it. (make sure the cash is in good condition) Hope this helps!

    • @TheFriendlyReviewer
      @TheFriendlyReviewer  6 лет назад +6

      Yeah, I felt safe. We were with some of our friends from Haiti so that helped a lot. If you don't know the language and what you are doing you definitely could get yourself in some unsafe scenarios just like anywhere else. Just make sure you do your research, know where you're going, how you're getting there, and where you are staying ahead of time. Be extra careful if there are protests and such going on as there were earlier this summer.

      I have visited a lot of countries and I see worse than Haiti but I choose to appreciate the good side. I respect other people's countries.

      This video is supposed to be useful info for people visiting Haiti, and not the tourist areas. Which parts would you suggest removing where someone wouldn’t be surprised if they visited and would be informed/prepared? People enjoy their stay when they know what to expect. I tried to mention both sides but perhaps I didn’t do a good job.

    Thank you for the informational video. However, please stop saying « they ». You are the person who Americans and other nations listen to about the country. Yes I get it there are poor places! But stop advertising the country as a whole as a poor place. Just like any other country there are some places that are not developed so stop ✋ saying it like Haiti is the only one. Also, since you want to visit the country and you care so much about the Haitian people, how about put some of your money towards a nicer hotel? Visit our tourist attraction. Tell other Americans that those places exist instead of assuming that the only reason Americans want to go to Haiti is for missionaries. My economy would really appreciate it! Thank you.

      Hopefully, you saw my pinned comment in regards to the difference between tourist areas and non-tourist areas which I also mention in the video. I was attempting to talk about both sides, but perhaps I failed since I filmed this trip which was not a tourist area. I don't recall talking about other countries than the US in the video, so there wasn't an attempt to single out Haiti 'as the only one' other than the video is about Haiti. I have been to the tourist areas, but there weren't many hotel options in close proximity to where we needed to stay on this trip. (Since you brought it up, we did spend a fair amount of money while there on construction equipment, lumber, ... )

      @@TheFriendlyReviewer Your video is fine, you did not fail at anything. Some Haitians just want you to show foreign tourists beautiful coastal scenes, landscaped hotel pools, walls of colorful artwork, etc. so they will bring money to Haiti, not just to neighboring Dominican Republic. You just showed the truth, and sometimes the truth hurts. Haiti se bel, meh pa parfait.
