  • Inca, Aymara, Quecha… The Indians of the Andes and the Amazon were the only inhabitants of South America until the Spanish and Portuguese conquistadors drove them from the coasts and plains. In the early 20th century, the old empires collapsed and newly independent countries emerged, redrawing the map of the continent.
But, running deeper than these borders, the old bonds between the peoples remained. To the south of the continent, there is a bus route that serves as such a bond, linking Peru to Argentina, via Chile.
This bus is called El Rapido and its point of departure is Buenos Aires. From the Argentinean capital, it takes the Trans-Latina highway through the pampas and crosses the Andes cordillera, climbing almost 5,000 metres, before winding its way down to Chile's arid Atacama Desert. El Rapido then follows the Pacific coast into Peru, all the way to Lima, the capital.

Good images. But SLICE got the title wrong. What do the Mapuches (who live in southern Chile and Argentina) have to do with this video ? Also, some subtitles and background information are incorrect. I know those roads and area very well, I live in Argentina

''Kon-kwista-dors''. Only the British can do this kind of humor of ignorance/arrogance.
