My experience in growing portulaca in Singapore - lots of sunlight, water once a day (do not overwater cos they will rot), check for gargen pest (take action when u see them), do not over fertilize (once biweekly will do), need constant pruning and need to recycle & regrow them in several pots in few months interval cos they will age.
Hi! I have just started growing them. How often do you prune them? And recently it’s been cloudy and rainy hence I noticed the flowers are small or they don’t bloom much :( not sure what else I can do to encourage blooming?
@@angmokiafren Hello hello. Only start to prune when it gets too long for your likes. BTW, do not throw away the pruned portions. Grow another pot with them. For my current few pots, they had been growing continuously for 8 months without pruning and regrowing them in new pots. Perhaps due to outdoor sunlight, daily watering once and occassional fertilizing. Dun worry about your small flowers. When conditions are right e.g. enough sunlight over a period of time, it will rebounce.
@@rxLEE thanks for the advice! My plant is very full now (filling up the pot till I don’t really see the soil anymore) but there are no more flowers :/
I planted portulaca’s (also known as moss rose) for the first time last year here in Canada because there are a lot of grasshoppers on my ranch that eat everything but they do not like portulaca’s . They are so beautiful, I just love them. I love your garden and your accent 😉🌸🌼🌺🌸🌼🌺.
Thanks I got ur video regarding portulaca plants. Yes portulaca needs lots of sunlight. When I purchased it, it has some flowers. At home it continued to have more plants. But I noticed, d next day, flowers were dying. Then d next day flowers were blooming again. It’s a daily flowering cycle. After a week, no more flower buds are coming out. Since d weather here in Bahrain in November is still hot, I can’t bring my plant outside my terrace. I thought it will die. But now d weather here is cold with direct sunlight, my plant is growing. After weeks of no flowers blooming, now there’s one coming 🌺
Yes wonderful in salads, kinda crunch, and the flowers taste good too. The FDA declared which plants were food and which ones were “weeds” many many years ago. With their vast lack of knowledge, they declared many plants weeds. Portulaca, or rose moss, is a natural cancer fighting plant. Read up on it. You can even buy it in powdered form to sprinkle on foods. I’m a nurse, it’s my job to know 🤗
@@thescentofsoil.436 there are lots of books with photos of edible plants that have wrongly declared as “not food” for so many years. Most flowers are edible. Pansies are pretty in salads and tasty, nasturtiums taste a bit peppery and rose petals are eaten like candy in other countries

4:33 😍...yes, I already watched about portulaca in your early video. Yes, hair cutting is good for plants too. Thank you so much 😊. I request you to do video on rain Lily❤️. It looks so pretty 😍😍. Thank you once again ☺️. God bless you 😇 and your family 😇
@pushpa latha, Thank you so much for watching the video 😍😍 Sure, I would do the video on Rain lily very soon and interestingly, I would cover 2 years updates 😍😍 Thank you once again for everything and have a wonderful time ahead 😍😍
Depends on depth of the pot, sunlight, soil etc. If grown in shallow pot (like 4 inch) and getting 6+ ours of direct sunlight, daily watering would be needed. Or you can do when the top soil looks absolutely dry.
Well…..I guess I will hold off on fertilizing now…..since that is not working(to bring more flowers). There are buds forming now……I guess I will hold off doing any fertilizing. Was a wet spring. I was covering everything with plastic shower curtains often. Omg! So now…..I will not water them for a long while. I actually bought them in addition to other plants…..because they are all….hot sunny weather plants. Ugh. Soooo. I will just…..treat them like hot, sunny, dry weather plants now. My deck gets some hot few hours of sun.
Sure, we can! But would need protection from rainfall at least initial 10-15 days. Once they have roots, no problem. Also, use an extremely well drained potting soil mix. All the best!
@Roopa Manjunath, Thank you very much for the feedback, appreciate it :-) For caring about Sri Lankan jasmine, I would upload the video very soon with updates, thank you!
My portulaca plants buds are coming.. But after few days that buds are burning and some leaves around tht bud also burning... Hence my plant is not blooming.. Share ur tips
@Angsuman Pathak, You are Most welcome to come to my home 😀😀 In Guwahati, there are many places where you would get as it's too common. Most easy places - Kachari ghaat & Ganeshguri. There are many nurseries in Khetri area and there you would get for sure. But, it's not the exactly right time for selling (as they are yea to start blooming) and so it might take few more days. Best for Summer :-)
