I love people like you that enjoy this hobby, now you need a pan and tilt and you will be more happy. I got the dji version in my volantex 2000 and I just love it.
Hey if you playback your flight in the DJI goggles and select osd at the top and record it from the goggle view like when you showed the osd you will get osd with flight footage hopefully that helps
Outstanding! Extracting the unique aspect of the DJI HD video and using it as a camera/VTx. Sometimes I find it difficult to see the essence from all the technological trees.
Glad to see you've finally got the DJI system. I've been using it in my FPV gliders, planes and quads ever since it was first released. I still use analog but only for specific purposes. If you want head tracking with your DJI system you'll need a Quanum Head Tracker, though HK no longer make them but they're easy to make and the original Quanum details are in RC Groups. PS: there's only one version of DJI FPV, there's no Australian version they're all the same unit and it's when you register the system with DJI to unlock it DJI will govern your output power to coincide with your region. Note: you can unlock the limited power in the air unit and goggles there's several videos showing how to do it.
Jeez things have evolved since people were fitting large video cameras to big planes powered by OS 90 gas engines in the 1990s. So much gets taken for granted that you can attach a tiny camera that has image stabilisation and use googles to fly around, all while recording and on an electric motor / battery combo that's cheap, compact and powerful.
Hi! I run Zohd Kopilot lite on my plane for autopilot ( stab, rth, autolaunch) and a separate betaflight fc with gps for the dji osd. Not the most elegant solution, but works, the two systems are independent from each other. Plus you have telemetry to the rc transmitter. I have Tanaris q X7 with R9 module and R9 slim + receiver. Use the s.port for telemetry. I splitted the s.bus to Zohd Kopilot and the betaflight fc. It is only important for having distance from home, because bf locks home position when you arm it. If you don't connect s.bus to the bf fc, no problem, you have everything beside this and if you lose anywhere the plane the last gps position is on the transmitter's screen. You can also log every telemetry data to sd card on the Taranis. All this stuff, bf. fc + gps+ 5v stepdown for fc, because mine has not, weights 28 gramms with a big, 36x36 fc. With a 20x20 fc and less cable you can go down to 20-22 grams. The best thing is you don't have to mess up with Inav settings for the plane to have rth and stab modes + autolaunch.
The home arrow actually works to my suprise. It has some delay, which almost made me lose my plane because i was circling to climb so the arrow couldnt really keep up. I thought I was right above me when i was actually 800m out behind some trees.
@@AndrewNewton I'm currently waiting on all the parts to build the open HD system, have the Pi's but waiting on the cams and WiFi dongles, after seeing your video I think opim gonna get that noon motion sway and sick feeling all over again till I get used to it! I fly on 7" high end goggles which are massively immersive and they have a resolution of 1280x800 that can display 720p in full, I can't wait to see the difference! If range isn't affected too much the higher data, I may fly on 1080 for the ground station recording :)
@@istvansoos1055 it varies depending on the gear you choose to use , I'm using the lightweight pi zero for the air processor but have opted for low power 100mw 2.4ghz modules and will be amping them to 2w instead of using 300mw units so that adds a little weight but not a huge amount. The pi cameras are 1080p but weigh absolutely nothing, like 1.5g! I'll try and remember to weigh my gear tomorrow but I might forget.
Great video Newton, as usual, but very disappointing that DJI doesn't support embedding OSD in DVR recording. Hope in the future this changes! Keep it up the good work! cheers!
Great video as usual, Andrew. I was wondering if you thought anything spoke against going the "simplest" route by using the DJI transmitter as well, hooked up to a ZOHD Kopilot? One thing I can think of is probably no OSD.. (I don't have a Tx at the moment) Cheers from Houston
Just my input here but I have the ZOHD and it is great for entry level FPV and saving your plane for failsafe or loss of FPV, but I really want to change RTH altitude and other things such as having an OSD, Those are just 2 things I can think off the top of my head.
For me the transmitter would be an extra 4 or 500 dollars. It's OK for quads and Flight control boards I guess but I already have much more versatile transmitters
@@AndrewNewton Appreciate the answer, and I agree for someone already invested in other Tx/Rx systems it's not a great value proposition. I just sold all my stuff when I moved last time so I can start fresh! 😁 Anybody else have some input? DJI transmitter wise
At last, you went up that Coastline Andrew....Range was impressive for just 25mw...How do you know which SMA port to use for that directional receiving antenna..?The Goggle is a tranceiver right?
Yes they do transmit for camera setup I guess. Painless says the lower 2 are receive only but you can get 4 patch setups that use every antenna socket.
@@AndrewNewton Yes, I noticed your had your patch on a top socket...I use two directionals on my 5.8g setup to good effect making a wide beam to fly in. I suggest another directional like in your video for best results..Looking forward to seeing more of your DJI adventures TBH...
@@AndrewNewton Yes, it's strange, because I need +3 reading glasses on my Vipers, but I can almost focus perfectly on the DJIs without wearing glasses at all.. Very strange, the IPD isn't quite wide enough though, so frustrating.

Fantastic scenery, and a great image!
DJI system really is something special... RUclips downscales the image but I can imagine how good it looks.

I reckon the DVR quality is better than the Runcam 2 4K. Now that's quite something :-)
Better HDR handling maybe but nothing like the 4K resolution
Im watching on a pc with two 32" screens, when you did that loop at the end, my stomach went from it looking so real on big displays and in HD lol

Can the analog and digital output be used at the same time? I mean, connect the cam with both Vista and an analog vtx
No
Sadly I'll never be able to afford a dji system. Hopefully the price will come down.
It will in time.
Dji goggles price in same range as good oled analog goggles so if someone talking about dji fpv prices.. :)
Good point.
I cannot wear goggles is there a way to use the DJI or caddx transmitter with a monitor?
Yes but you have to buy a DJI mavic style controller to link it to a screen. Its pricey.
Looks like analog that nebula footage
720P DVR from the goggles.
Top class. Can you wear glasses with dji goggles ?
Yes
Your making me want to spend money! Stop it now, not sure my bank balance can take the strain.
