- How do we spend the day as retired people, what do we do? We share a typical day with you and show you how we fill the day. There is still plenty of life to live and sometimes we can't fit it all into one day a day in the life of a retired couple.
Join us for our day in retirement, we enjoy life together as a married couple we are best friends as well as man and wife. The only difference to this day in our life is that the travel and public health restrictions mean we are at home instead of being somewhere sunny like Portugal.
There is no reason to fear retirement wondering how you are going to fill your days up. Life will just provide activities for you and before long you will be on retirement auto pilot.

Hi Norm and Tina! I found your channel a few weeks ago and have been loving your content. My husband and I are in our mid/late 40's and working towards a freedom 55 retirement. I really enjoyed your day in the life video, as we like to talk and dream about what our daily life will be when we retire. We love each other's company and a simple life at home, cooking and chatting, so it was nice to hear how you two live your life at home since you can't travel at the moment. Hi, my wife and I are going to retire in about two weeks. Your videos help keep my anxiety in check as I’ve always had a job since I was 14 years old and the thought of not working is a bit unsettling. I’m starting to come up with ideas to fill my time (improve on my Spanish and get more use out of our billiards table) plus we both enjoy hiking so we’re looking forward to that as well. Of course we have grandchildren to visit and other travels but from a day to day standpoint this was helpful. 😊

I retired last August. It was really hard deciding on what to do with all of the free time. I write down a schedule. I have started taking water exercise classes and going to the movies. Other days I may go shopping, take a walk in the park or visit family.

Hello you two! I’m 57 and I’ve been retired for about a month now. I retired from the U.S. Army after 22 years of service at the tender age of 38 and continued to work at a different field since I was still young. Now I retired for the second time and I receive two pensions and compensation benefits. I’m not touching my 401k and social security yet because I really don’t need them yet. My husband will retire in a year with the same pensions and benefits and we plan to travel like you guys. Meanwhile, since he won’t retire until next year, I spend my days decluttering and reorganizing every drawer in every room in the house, lol. I’m also learning a third language. I also plan to learn a 4th language, the American Sign Language. I love your videos, keep up the good work!

Hi Tina and Norm, loved your show again this week. I had to mention to my husband that Norm tracks his stocks in two places and one of them being the Globe and Mail. Well that got him hyped up to get his down on the Globe and Mail as well. I think it took him like 5 or 6 hours this weekend but he’s very happy to get it there and to be able to easily see the progress. We plan on retiring in 2 years so we seem to be doing a lot of planning and talking about our immediate future. Thanks and continue with your tips!

Love that Norm brings you tea in the morning. My Yorkshire husband (of 34 years) brings me coffe almost every morning. He brought his 'teasmaid' with him when he moved to Canada in 1989, and with power exchanger 🤣...it's still going strong, so I don't need to make his morning tea . Tea,toast,marmalade and marmite...that's been his morning breakfast forever.😄
We are planning retirement later this year...and thinking we'll get away from loooong, cold Yukon winters by spending some months in the UK, with some trips from there to warm places. Have you ever spent large chunks of time back in the UK since retiring? We have a rental suite attached to our home, so lucky to have that additional income which will boost our pensions and help with renting something small (monthly airbnb?) in the off months in the UK.
Since retiring we haven’t been back to the UK 🇬🇧 at all , no reason to really and the weather is one reason why we left . We love visiting warmer places like Portugal 🇵🇹 or the USA 🇺🇸 we used to have. a teasmaid when we were England 🏴 Cheers 🍷🇬🇧🇨🇦🍺

I must say the picture quality of your videos is excellent. I watch on a 77 inch OLED 4K tv (ie 40% bigger than a 65 inch tv) so the picture so good is impressive. The downside is I don’t see how I can indicate that I like a video on a tv and to do so have to go to my IPAD. We both enjoy your videos.

I like to watch The "OLD CLASSIC Car videos on Y.T.They feature the old cars I had as a teen here in Canada.They were what I could afford and they were easy for a youngster to work on.1948=1968 Austins and Morris Minors.Bet you have seen one or two of them in British Isles! No computor modules to deal with and lots of audience when starting with hand crank in parkinglot!. Enjoy your Retirement Videos too! CHEERS

It seems that we "Groundhog Day repeaters" are in good company with you and Norm. Seriously, it's a bit "odd" these days but we appreciate good health and are seeing gyms and movie theaters back...something to do while we wait for warmer weather. Getting some daily movement and enjoying the day...makes it slip by quickly. After 11 years of an early retirement I still find I don't have time to do all I want...that''s a good sign. Also, in this household the first cup of coffee is delivered in bed...BEST cup of the day !! Aren't we spoiled. Cheers !!

Hello! My husband and I are going to be fully retired July 22. I’m already retired, going on two years. We are building a cabin in the lower peninsula in the northern part of Michigan. We are getting very close to completion with the interior and we will be selling our house and moving. We will be totally debt-free once we sell our home. The one thing I have really taken away from your videos is the fact that you have the 4 o’clock happy hour whether or not you decide to have alcoholic drinks or iced tea or coffee or who knows what I love the fact of spending one full hour doing nothing but spending time together. That is the one thing I want to implement in our retirement plan. You are an inspiration to others and I just wanted to let you know that you have inspired me and my husband. You look like you’re very happy in retirement. We are so looking forward to it

I've taken your suggestion of setting my coffee pot to "brew later" making it the night before for 6:30 a.m. Talk about ridiculously simple pleasures! This is now a best practice for starting my day. I live alone but it feels like room service. Thanks!

Our days are somewhat similar in that there is “comfortable” repetition. Living in the south gives us better weather for outdoor activities in the winter. I thought of you both a couple of weeks ago when we got 3/4 inch of snow here at Myrtle Beach. It melted off within the hour,, but we were those people wearing heavy coats walking the beach that you mentioned in a previous video!

Hey Tina and Norm! It was cool to see "A Day in the Life" video. Butters LOVES the Beatles as well norm. Hot Cross Buns sound pretty amazing right now for a midnight snack... Butters family always got them for Easter (Catholic Family). It's wonderful that you're both able to exercise an hour a day whether walking or swimming. That's how you both stay so nice and trim. Hi Norm and Tina! Another great video! My hubby is retired and I plan to retire from municipal government in just shy of 4 years! Wish I could retire sooner but I have to put in 30 years to get my pension when I’m 50. We have plans to do some work in our retirement. I want to become a certified financial planner and my hubby wants to work part time at a golf course. He loves to swim so we’ll be looking for an indoor pool at an apartment and I’ll continue my yoga practice at a studio someplace. You two make us excited to be in retirement together. Great video. I like your 'groundhog days'. It shows the importance of routines, hobbies, mind stimulation & socializing. Once travel opens up the the addition of trips near or far sounds like a perfect retirement to me.

I am back... I had to chuckle 🤭 because my day is somewhat the same. Wake up at 5:20 prepare breakfast 🥞 for the wife and send her of to work for the 🐁 at the Orlando Park (WDW). Clean up the messy kitchen, start some laundry, check the market, watch videos from blockers in Portugal, Italy, Brazil and some related to investing and finances. I also walk. Towards the end of the day, i cook dinner, we eat and after that Célia goes crochet her amigurumi(she is really good at) and I watch worldwide news. I enjoyed watching you going through your day schedule. If you decide to come to Orlando before may let me know. I will be honored to take you to lunch or dinner. Um bom final de semana para vocês. Hello again Tina and Norm. It’s been a couple of weeks since I asked you a few questions. Thanks for recommending to look into the particular rental company as it does give me an idea of what and where to look when we decide to sell and possibly rent. We are flying out to Faro next week and as I mentioned that we rent an apartment in Olhos de Agua. It is located two minutes after you climbed the lengthy wooden staircase when you left the beach in your video. There was beautiful orange flowers at the top of the stairs overlooking the beach with a bench which you likely used. We’ve gone each year (except last year) for five years and we love the location. If we every were to meet there one March it would be good to have lunch at Adega Do Ze. If you haven’t been then you need to. It is fantastic food at prices that are ridiculously low. The people work so hard there and I am happy to be able to go this spring and help them out. Enjoy each other and glad you’re still having fun. From a fellow Algarve lover,

My mornings start at 6 am. I read/watch the news waiting for the dog to wake up and ask for his walk.

Your positive attitude is an example to all of us. There will be tens of thousands of people who have worked hard over the years and now have money to spend with nowhere to go, because of this virus. There is now a glimmer of hope for us here in NZ, Queensland is opening borders and NZ must follow soon, so this year we will be able to get some Winter sunshine with any luck. Is that too much to ask for after 45yrs on the treadmill.

Your video episodes have always helped me to swing into the retirement I finally decided to pursue in late November 2021. With some variations I do practically everything you two do daily. I have added an exercise program on video which I can do even on dreary winter days --- no excuses! The investment and keeping/fit and mentally aware strategies are absolutely mandatory at this great time of life, too! Much love always from West Virginia!😀⚘❤

Here's a reflection of a 'typical' day in our pensionado world: Norm, it is 6:20 am and I have just watched the video after checking comments and numbers on my channel 😂! I won't be smelling coffee at 6:30 though. I generally wait for my husband to surface before I have my breakfast. What I do do first though ( after checking YT) is go downstairs and get the newspaper. I do the word puzzles. I've not got the hang of Sudoku funnily enough, though I love playing with figures. We check the news together then see who has planned what for the day. Not daily but a regular 'Port o'clock' session and we share the cooking tasks. Yesterday my husband went on a really intense bush walk activity and I went to Leiden for the day. More freedom is around the corner as far as Corona is concerned. Portugal and Spain looking good. Have a great weekend. 🍷 💃 🌹 🇳🇿 🙋♀️ 🇳🇱

Your day sounds so much like mine except that I am a night owl. I spend my alone time on the computer, to get things accomplished, in the middle of the night. My husband makes my tea, too; it is nice to be spoiled. He hasn't retired yet but he has been working from home for almost 2 years. I enjoy walking and I do about 1.5 hours a day, however; I am in South Carolina so it is nice on the beach. It is considered 'winter' here so the place is deserted and I am not in the least bit concerned with catching Covid. I will have to try the Yahoo finance site you mentioned, it would be good to keep track in real time of the investments, I review when the markets are closed to see how we did during the day, but real time would be great to enable me to be proactive in making timely decisions. Thanks for teaching me something...again!
