Thank you for sharing! Living in Savannah we are given a white washed history. Glad to learn some of the truths. It's hard to stomach that I have touched hooks in the walls- oblivious to what they were put there for. Heart breaking, but important to learn.

Love this Savanah episode. She brought the word.. So much history to share and learn. Can't wait until you get to New Orleans. Very similar place as a port city. Over 100 different African ethic groups were documented to come through the city. The music, food, accent here are of Africa. So many people from Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia and Maryland were sold here also. We are so related. We truly Brothers and Sister.

THE CONGO SQUARE IN NEW ORLEANS IS NAMED THIS FOR A REASON. ... AND THE TOWN OF ANGOLA, LOUISIANA IS NAMED ANGOLA FOR A REASON. ... NGOLA IS THE ORIGINAL NAME OF ANGOLA AFRIKA ... THE PORTUGUESE COULD NOT PRONOUNCE N'GOLA, SO THEY ADDED AN "A" TO N'GOLA. ... FROM N'GOLA COME THE WORD GULLAH (as in GULLAH-GEECHEE). ... I MARRIED AN ANGOLAN. ... BEEN THERE TWICE AND NOW WORKING ON A TOUR SPECIFICALLY FOR THAT REGION AND THE TOUR WILL BE CALLED ... THE GRAND ANGOLA/CONGO TOUR. ... ALMOST 50% OF ALL AFRIKANS ENSLAVED AND BROUGHT TO THE WESTERN HEMISPHERE COMES FROM THE ANGOLA/CONGO REGION.

@@glencarey5274 Definitely My people's are from that area. It was called Angola plantation before the penitentiary was built. We still drum and dance at Congo Square on Sundays. Keeping the traditions alive. The highest number of Congo/Angola peopled were brought here after the 1760s when the Spanish took control of the Louisiana colony. There were direct shipments from Loango and Luanda, many time stopping in Havana before completing the trip in New Orleans.

The best video you have made yet. Seriously. This is truly how you connect both sides of the Atlantic. Our ancestors left their fingerprints all over America but especially in the gullah geechee Corridor you see it more. We retained their cultures more too. That is why from Pender County NC all the way down the coast to St Augustine FL, we see Black America's most important cultural community. The Gullah Geechee Nation. Don't forget Charleston (the heart of the corridor) and Wilmington (Americas first Black Wall Street and bulit off Gullah slave labor). Carolina Gold Rice was important in these cities. The 2 times I visited Savanna it made me cringe like instantly. It’s like I could feel the history to the point it made me uncomfortable. From the port, the streets, and the trees all tell a story, and one that’s not pleasant for our ancestors who were brought here.
The hooks, stains, and lash markings on that brick wall are so heartbreaking. I’m also in agreement with educating more people especially this generation because the decor of cotton as if it’s flowers boils my blood and the weddings on plantations irks my soul so bad.

Maximum Impact . Let me add to this landmark ( Savanah, GA). After the ACS was founded to take free enslaved Africans to present day , LIBERIA. One of the last trips involved Elizabeth TUBMAN , a relative of Harriet TUBMAN held other free enslaved individuals who wanted to return to Africa. So around 1829. She was successful, after contacting one Henry CLAY ,who helped formed the ACS in 1816 her people were taken to LIBERIA. FROM Savannah Georgia. Her husband. William TUBMAN. Their son William VS TUBMAN became either the 18th or 19th Presidents of Liberia. He was one of the first sons of the soil of the returnees. But prior to the. ,PAUL COFFEY. AN AN AFRICAN AMERICAN CLERGYMAN HAD ALREADY SUCCESSFULLY MADE FOUR TRIPS SELF , - funded to present day Sierra Leone, he returned in 1815 Mysteriously died of illness. Ironically. The white elites formed ACS in 1816. A year later....hmmmmm..How convenient .and purchased land in Liberia. He was never given credit. THE US REFUSED TO HELP FUND HIS VOYAGES .THEN HE BECAME But however they were able to recruit one Daniel Websters from the New England as well, who was affiliated with PAUL COFFEY. MOST OF THESE MEN WERE ABOLITION LAWYERS, AND CLERGYMEN. ( AFRICAN AMERICAN, ). SOME OF THE FORMERLY ENSLAVED THAT WERE RETURNED THROUGH SAVANNAH, were also recapture stolen men from the Niger.Kongo region by Spanish traders from the wrecked ship Quererro off the Florida Keys ( ie) It was shot by American and British navy officers. After in 1807 abolition of slave trade law. But not slavery;;;;hence the Igbo drowning. ,(( they were Igbo, Congolese. And .Togolese They settled in an area called Stockton Creek in Liberia, name after Robert Stockton the navy officer recommissoned on the former ship called "" THE SARATOGA " was assigned on the West coast ofvLiberia. ( then the grain coast) after the US navy was formed in 1802-1803... These Africans before being taken to Savannah, lived with Seminole natives in Florida.( present day St Augustine ,Florida. But the few Whites that were forced to settle there too at that time were being outnumbered It is said that due to their safety because Spanish stole some of them taken Cuba and Columbia. 🇱🇷 LIBERIAN History ( 101).

You know who else was there in Georgia but in a large area? The Yorubas. But if you really research, there are AFRICAN names cities and towns all over the US. The “Yemasee” people (spelled like that on many maps as far as 16-1700-1800s) is actually a Yoruba name called”Yemi si” meaning “I’m honored”. These folks were there even before the Transatlantic ships. I even saw a place within the Savanna or in proximity area called “Egypt”. In the Caribbeans there was a Native American tribe called Arawa-ks. But in Hausa land especially in N Nigeria there is the great “Arewa Hausa Nation”. I noticed words that Jamaicans say. You can’t make this stuff up.
How did they know to get the Africans into the places were they brought slaves? Because they were already occupying those territories- another topic. I have maps as far as 1400s and what I see if shocking. The colonizers just did to us what they did to N Africa, Puerto Rico, and places in S America to create a people more close to their blood line. They attempt.

When Georgia's Founder (Colonizer), General James Oglethorpe came from England he had made several journeys to the west coast of Africa. Savanna is a grassland and when they reached the Georgia coast the many surrounding marshlands look exactly like the African grasslands or Savanna. In Olde English, the "H" was used as a plural signifier, hence the spelling "Savannah", meaning many grasslands. This is why he named it Savannah, the first city in the 13th British colony of Georgia. If you've ever driven out to Tybee Island from Savannah, passing through the marshlands you would definitely see this for yourself.

@@bruteluv Exactly, people who say this have obviously never spent more than a couple of hours/days in the city of Savannah. It has its share of historical issues being a major slave port of couse; however It's like an oasis of blackness compared to the surrounding towns.

    Isaiah 11
    10. A day is coming when the new king from the royal line of David will be a symbol to the nations. They will gather in his royal city and give him honour.
    12. The Lord will raise a signal flag to show the nations that he is gathering together again the scattered people of Israel and Judah and bringing them back from the four corners of the earth.
    13. The kingdom of Israel will not be jealous of Judah any more, and Judah will not be the enemy of Israel.
    14. Together they will attack the Philistines on the west and plunder the people who live to the east. They will conquer the people of Edom and Moab, and the people of Ammon will obey them.

Please get the information right. The Adinkra does not belong to the Asanti’s. It belong to Jamang tribe which is part of the Akan tribe. Every tribe is Ghana matter and is important that history is taught properly.

I love this...however, the guides need to wear clothing that is fair trade, not made by living slaves in the far east. Be classy....not the usual hypocrites.

I suggest you do some research on the roots of the Gullah-Geechee people and culture. Y'all so busy trying to throw the baby out with the bath water and it's getting ridiculous.
