Hi Cliff, wow that Toro runs great! I have used those aftermarket carbs a couple times myself, for the price it's a lot easier & almost the same price as a rebuild kit. I'm glad to see that you got one with an aluminum deck & personal pace like you wanted. maybe it's just me, but I think the aluminum deck Toros cut better than the steel deck ones.
Wow turned out to be a great runner! Really like these newer Super Recycler mowers. Now they just sell them with the Toro engine (China built) and Honda. Wonder why they quit putting the Quantum on it. You should do some mowing videos on your grass!
I had to do this exact same thing to my 12 year old Craftsman mower. The carb was $10 on Amazon, which was $20 cheaper than a rebuild kit. Although the carb is a Chinese part, it fits and works perfectly. I figured the odds of it working were higher than not, and it was only $10.
Great video....I have a couple super recyclers one that is the sr4 starts up good cuts ok but then if I use it for say 20min and stop it it has trouble starting again.gets very hot but not sure why itll start at first then not after running it for a bit.
I have the same problem. Mower has been sitting for 5 years with fuel in it. Can you tell us where you got the carb, and what the number is? I have the exact mower, but nowhere... is there a model number or serial number... thank J
Hello Jochanan thanks for viewing! Yes its Part # 799871 if you have a engine just like this one with the autochoke feature. I get most my parts off Ebay from US sellers, these are aftermarket carburetors you can get them from under $10USD look for free shipping as well. They work great, just replaced one on a Toro Personal Pace Model 20333 same part number. You can find these on Amazon as well, its a great replacement really cheaper to buy a new carburetor than to buy a rebuild kit it. Still have this Toro Recycler and has started pretty much the 1st pull since this install. Let me know when you get it back going again the best lawn mower you can own!
my mower was acting like that last year and now this year it will not start. I changed the spark plug...still not start. Put new gas in...nope, What do you think the next step I should do?
Hello Marshallcamronty74 thanks for viewing! Does it fill like it has resistance when you pull the rope making sure its got compression. If so take out the spark plug and reconnect it to the boot, place the electrode against one of the cylinder head bolts have someone plug the cord and see if there is a spark coming across. If so take out the air filter and just spray some carburetor cleaner in it and see if it will make any attempt to start. Some of the most common issues is some trash has gotten into that carburetor and it does not take much to plug one up. I put an aftermarket carburetor on this Toro Super Recycler I just had one new in the box versus cleaning the old one. They are under $15USD on Ebay/Amazon I also have a number of videos on taking these apart and cleaning them as well. Let me know the outcome on just those few things to check and if it will make any attempt to start with carburetor cleaner.
very nice job Cliff, but a piece of advice for anyone doing this carb job, be very careful with the threaded part of the autochoke where the airvain mounts to the carb, I have had a few snap rigjt off the carb which ruins the whole carb and has to be replaced, what I do is, spray it with PB blaster to free up the threads an hour prior to removal, better to be safe then sorry.
Hello Knighthawk86855 great hearing from you! Have not had that happen but you are so correct that is a very small threaded bolt that holds that autochoke mechanism. Very good point to get some spray lube in there before hand and even on those threads afterwards. It is very true to be safe then sorry. Hey you are right there in the midst of the DC area the elections here have been just crazy. We have had more pollsters at our door, calling and filling the mail box up with ads is it the same as well up there.
Picked up the same mower/year a few weeks ago. Just got around to servicing - replaced the seat and gasket and fired up first pull. Great mower. May hold on to as well. Love how light these aluminum decks are!
Hello Mike thanks for viewing! That is great you also got one of these Toro Super Recyclers and got it back running as well. Same for this one it had sit for many years the lady had moved into a town house. The carburetor was so gummed up just replaced it with an aftermarket one and has but running great ever since. It just makes grass clippings and leaves disappear best lawn mower I have ever owned as well!
mountainbikekayak hey cliff, curious. Mower has been running great with the new Seat and needle but it’s leaking out of the carb intake into the filter area but happens several hours after running. Any idea what could be the cause? Had it apart two times and looks in tact. Wondering if the float could have gone bad? Any input appreciated!
