this show starts with confusion and fear, they are lost souls on a train trying it figure out what happened and how to accept the deaths. when we get to the transition it becomes sadness due to the eternity of suffering alone, stuck in the train. the red flag represents the building anger, rage, and constant confusion of why we are still on the train. at the end of the show we all are dead /stuck on the train and one one walking had accepted their fate and is ready to move on. the lanterns represent the “light” or the freedom of the afterlife. we have slight bits of hope, but by the end we lost our minds.
I thought this was a show about a ghost constantly reliving the moments before her death. Also regretting the choices she made that lead to her death. Like taking the train that day. I'm assuming that numbers is time that has past as she waited, laying there in the rumble of the wreck making the transition.
