Hi mate, just wanted to say your channel is great and every time I watch a video of yours I find myself inspired, gazing up at the sky that night in wonder. Keep it up!
I just found your channel and Joined/Subscribed. As someone who was entranced by the night sky (taking astronomy classes during the summer ages 10-12) and still remembering seeing the rings of Saturn through the telescope of a friend of my uncle as a 9yo, please keep your love and enthusiasm.
Thankyou for a very good, frank and honest review. These new smart scopes are a real game changer on the few brief clear nights we get here in the UK. Assemble, power up, level, calibrate and off you go. In a few minutes you can evaluate what you’re getting and off you can go back in the warm whilst it autonomously performs its imaging run. And, if the cloud rolls in again you can easily call it a night and bring it back in again in minutes. I still love my older gear and the ritual of setting up, aligning and all that, but these new scopes really come into their own in how quick to set up and portable they are. Great for travel, holidays abroad, or outreaching with folks that have never used a visual telescope beforehand.
Love to see a critical eye on new stuff, specially ultra expensive stuff like this. A lot of people don't include the variable money in the equation and I think it's one of the most important, specially among beginners
amazing love the content dude i found you a few months ago and recently your videos have popped into my recommended and it's always amazing and interesting keep it up
Thanks for sharing. I’ve seen those telescopes. Glad I never bought one. I bought a 8 inch Dobsonian by apertura around 635 and bought some extras spent around 870.00 very happy highly recommend it
Very cool review! A flaw I see in all smart telescopes is the alt az design, I wish a company would design one with an eq mount. Also, with the price tag at over 4k for this kind of money you could get a whole setup with harmonic drive mount etc. so I wonder what about this is worth the money in the eyes of the Unistellar team.
Great review and I totally feel the same. I have both evscope equinox1 and seestar s50. I use equinox for clusters and seestar for nebulas. I kinda regret buying evscope now (It was 1,999 USD) but oh well, there wasn't seestar back then. :/ My guess is that nobody will want this over priced gear even in second hand so it will be my buddy for the rest of my life with no choice. So my best usage out of it will be set it as a gear designated for clusters while seestar points out nebula and I'd be playing around with my dob and binos.
For 4k I would want a lot better than that. I think your score based on the price is about right. I'm not sure I'd be happy with them results if it was 1k either.
This scope is great for providing an electronic amplified image that effectively makes the the instrument behave like a much larger aperture. Rendering it very portable. The photography aspect is much weaker but is present. I am not aware of any other telescope on the market with an electronic eyepiece.
Just done the maths, my rig cost less. second hand heq5 and second hand redcat51, zwo533mcpro, zwo120mini, asiair mini, l extreme filter and a power station, for a little over 3k gbp. with practice, it takes me less than 15 min to set up at a dark site. Granted these smart scopes are plug and play, but i wonder if they will leave people wanting more after a couple of months ( if clouds play ball ). The advantage of a mount and OTA, is that you can change the OTA or camera, for a different field of view
each people will get bored quickly with this smart scope and sell it for a real cheap price. so then compare your used to this scope use and you will see a huge price difference not in your favor
Completely agree with your review and the rating, you just read my mind throughout the video haha . I guess 8MP is a plus compared to the other options, only if it was around 1K. The eye piece isn't really a plus in my opinion since it's just a screen, why would anyone look through there when you see the exact same thing on the phone. If it was a regular eyepiece you kind of get to see the natural view along with the bright view on the app.
Stars are so far away, they are actually a point source of light. When looking at individual stars in your EVscope, what you’re observing is the sensor being overexposed.
Thank-you. Imma wait for a newer model maybe the next one will do planets better. I love the stack images but is the point and view capabilities totally gone
That it doesn't show some planets (e.g. Saturn) in detail at least proves it's not faking resolution with AI like some cameras/phones. I would have to buy one of these and find it's just making up images from a database. Being basically plug-and-play appeals to me, and asking it to point at a particular object is great.
In the USA this scope is $4875.00, or after tax over $5,000.00. My new Seestar S50 is doing as good or better a job than this scope. The resolution is almost 4x’s better than the S50 but it does not show in your examples. Thanks for the review and saving me $4500 dollars.
@pilsplease7561 - I kind of agree. My friend just got a Seestar. He sent me several pictures of long exposure images. The stars were way too fuzzy for me. I think I'd pay 10 times as much for 4x resolution.
This is on the level of what I get with a DSLR, cheap mechanical tracker and vintage telephoto lens. So about 1k total. Meaning the other 3k are for the convenience of auto-stacking, GOTO, etc. Definitely not for me, but I understand the logic behind it, although the marketing is despicable.
The star images in the pics dont seem clean. I am using a 14 inch Dob, and am used to sharp stars. Are yur pics ,is leading, or are they not as sharp as a Good dob?
Im just starting to get in to this but for the money i think the Sky-Watcher Flextube 400P SynScan 16" is a better scope but its a monster and you need 2 people to almost set it up.
I went outside in -15 Canada and saw Jupiter and its 4 Galilean moons for the first time in my life! It was amazing!!!! You never want to stop looking at it💜💜 The telescope is a celestron AstroMaster LT 70 , I used a 6mm. I just wanted to share this with everyone here lol 😄
Hi, could you help us find where you spotted that overly detailed image of the crab nebula? It is indeed too detailed and we'd like to remove it. Normally this shouldn't have passed our publication filter but sometimes creators are a bit "stubborn" or do not understand why some details are important (they don't understand why crab nebula cannot be as beautiful as Orion for example, so they forget to correct the content or upload the wrong version without noticing).
Excellent review. The real killer is Jupiter and Saturn. Probably the 2 most viewed objects (not counting the moon, which I’m surprised you didn’t include in your review) people want to see in a telescope. I’d be embarrassed to show those planets to anyone with that telescope. Especially one the goes for over $4K. An inexpensive 90mm or 102mm refractor would give better quality views for less than 1/10 the cost. I’ve got a Celestron 102mm Star Sense refractor which I just checked can be bought for under $400. and when used with your smart phone gives you a simple way to find objects in the sky, and very nice views of Jupiter and Saturn, even the Orion Nebula. Again, excellent review. Thanks for the post. 👍🏻🍻😎
I my opinion bit of a scam....sorry to say that :( To get people interested in the wonders of the universe let them first watch a crescending moon with a simple ( but good quality ) 90-102mm refractor and a decent eyepiece, I will never forget the reactions of many people 😉, than show them Jupiter and Saturn on a quit night with little to none air turbulence, priceless. Those 2 planets are priceless! Than show them some more easy starclusters like the 7 Sisters, and maybe on a good night the vague silhouet of Andromeda! I live in the Netherlands and we do not have that many good nights. But showing people the night sky with logical steps ( moon -> planets -> star clusters -> galaxy ) will make them understand what size and distance means for the visual eye. Astrophotography for me, maybe in the future but I really like visual observing. With refractors and bigger reflectors as well, to find and see the faint nebulas/galaxies is so cool.
These « old » smart telescopes were decent before ZWO released the Seestar. With my Seestar, in a Bortle 9 sky, I’m taking way better pictures and it costs 10% of the price. I like what they did with the eyepiece, in a way, but this is WAY too expensive for a beginner astronomer. It’s better to see clouds on Jupiter than a soft grey spot in the sky in my opinion.
I still feel if you are going to spend this much on a smart telescope, the Vespera ii or pro are better picks. Especially with their mosiac modes. What you said at the end about if it were around 999, it might be better. That's the thing, the price is too much without enough being delivered.
There is no way this scope is worth that much.. for 4k one could buy an 8' sct. Asi294, a mount and a guide camera and will do much better than this scope and learn more too
You could, but a great many people wouldn't have a clue how to use it. While there's no way I personally would pick this over a full rig, it has it's place particularly for EAA.
Nailed it... it's just not particularly brilliant at anything. Doubly disappointing for the price of admission. According to Richard Berry of the AAVSO, the camera is not even all that suited to photometry - one of the main "citizen science" selling points.
I’ve got the Seestar S50. My Galaxy and Nebulae images are much better in the Seestar than what you showed. The planets are pretty close as I get 2 bands on Jupiter. I do have better skies in Maui but I’m close to a major street so there is still lots of light pollution. And of course price makes this no contest.
Ive been seeing a lot of strange lights in the night sky consistently for a few months now in Somerset UK. They appear after 3am and stay for an hour or so. I've been able to capture quite a lot of footage on my phone and it's on my channel if you'd like to see. Would love to speak to anyone else who may have seen these lights. Many thanks.
Hi Damon, four grand…. four grand, four thousand pounds… wow. you can buy a fantastic setup for the same if not very similar money, and end up with much better results… still.. a top end smartphone costs what, £1500-£1700.. It seems a lot. it is a lot.. great review by the way. I think I’d plump for an EQ6r and a W/Optics refractor and really have fun.
I'd rather buy the Dwarf2 or ZWO Seestar S50 for $500 for eaa then buy a beast $3000 Schmitt telescope or 12" Dob for much cheaper. Look at objects live and then use the tiny smart scopes for eaa out reach
I believe 90% of astrophotographers will tell you that you shoudlnt spend a single buck for a smart scope, i think the best you should do as a beginner is to grab a star tracker, like a skywatcher one, a dslr and some samyang lens otherwise simply a small apo refractor😊
I have the Seestar, from what I've seen it's a much better deal. My pics are better than what Damon got with this. But I live in a darker place, so there is that.
For $4000 you could build a legit rig that would outperform this: SW GTI mount 533mm or MC 3-400mm apo aith EAF Operating system for 3-500$ and have cash to spare and it would be a legit rig

Your design and layout skills are beyond amazing 👏
YES!! I was waiting a new damon scotting video and there it is! You are best!

Really good video! I like that you are honest and realistic. You didnt let unistellar letting you try it out affect your review. Very helpful!

Thanks mate for the honest review and you have saved $4k
All of your reviews has helped me save so much money. I just got the Seestar and it's absolutely incredible! Thank you Damon!
My husband just spent 5.199.00 dollars on this telescope for my birthday and your review took all the excitement i have away lol 😅
Lets be honest. He bought it for himself ^^😅
amazing love the content dude i found you a few months ago and recently your videos have popped into my recommended and it's always amazing and interesting keep it up
I live in my country's capital, can't really see anything but I can go to my grandma's and watch. I don't have a telescope, wish I had one.
Respect!👍
Great review, thanks. Will you be doing a review of the Vaonis Vespera 2 or Pro scopes?
didn't even watch yet but i just know this is another banger from damon

i had the original equinox...great kit..but sold it just recently...now have a dwarf 2...and thinking of getting seestar next
Great review. Looking for a review like this for the Origin also.
I would love this but I’m still trying to get my hands on the dwarf labs 2

I was considering a second hand one for £1800 on eBay
Not now will probably go for the seestar
This is basically a backyard observatory. That's basically exactly what I'm looking for.
i love these videos
Nice review 😻
Thank-you. Imma wait for a newer model maybe the next one will do planets better. I love the stack images but is the point and view capabilities totally gone

The seestar is awful, the sensor is awful, the focal length sucks, it produces washed out colors and grainy poor res images.

The same telescope without the eyepiece, so smartphone only, is about 40% less. Would that change your rating?

This is weird but I had dream about u Damon, today. What are u doing there ?😂😂
What is the price range if I want to get that nice M1? Thx
I love my evostar and dwarf.❤ 1/10th the cost.

Probably a satellite
$1,999 U.S. June 2024 Sams Club Honolulu. Thanks for the direction. I'm gonna pass and visit the planetarium instead.
I agree with your assessment
Yeah! Good to see you again. Good review!

how have i not heard of this one yet
Very helpful in deciding to keep looking for a decent scope/price.
Great review, was thinking of buying one. Now I think Naaaaa. Hopefully ZWO will bring out a successor to the S50.
Are you going to review the Celestron Origins?
Good sir, The dwarf IIs new firmware came out, curious what you think.
It's really cool but the price is just wow. And this is basically Celestron's Nexstar telescope but you use your phone
I just purchased one barely used at a mere fraction of the price. I think that’s the ticket.
I'll stick to my Dwarf II thank you
Ill stick to my vaonis vespera which takes amazing images.
Does it have bandpass/solar/lunar filters?
I’d drop 2k on it right now… not a penny more. But I’d drop it as soon as it hit that price point!
I went outside in -15 Canada and saw Jupiter and its 4 Galilean moons for the first time in my life!
It was amazing!!!! You never want to stop looking at it💜💜
The telescope is a celestron AstroMaster LT 70 , I used a 6mm.
I just wanted to share this with everyone here lol 😄
-15!!! Only fellow astronomers will appreciate this level of commitment and the reward of seeing Jupiter and its Moons! Thanks for sharing mate 😁
isn't this scope kinda looking at your laptop? Like by googling an object and looking at its image?

Watching review of $4000 telescope with ₹500 in my pocket 😂😢

What smart telescope would you recommend over this?
These « old » smart telescopes were decent before ZWO released the Seestar.
With my Seestar, in a Bortle 9 sky, I’m taking way better pictures and it costs 10% of the price.
I like what they did with the eyepiece, in a way, but this is WAY too expensive for a beginner astronomer.
At this point, just buy a Seestar for nebulas, and ask your local shop to give you a « planet buster scope », like a 6in Celestron SCT.

I’ve got the Seestar S50. My Galaxy and Nebulae images are much better in the Seestar than what you showed. The planets are pretty close as I get 2 bands on Jupiter. Love the review, but could do without the background music in those few parts of the video. Makes it hard to hear you talk over it.
It’s the Balenziaga of electronic telescopes. 😂
For $4,000 it’s an absolute scam!!! If all it can do is galaxies and nebula get a get the dwarf for $499 and get way bigger please don’t buy this crap
I own the less expensive Unistellar and the ZWO SeeStar. I have owned the Dwarf II (don’t buy it). I like my SeeStar the best.
