Wow, it has been years since I posted this. Update is I got out of the Corps and ended up going into a local LE agency. Unfortunately at the time CHP was taking a long time up to over a year to put people through the hiring process. I was fortunate enough to get hired by a local LE agency fairly quickly and jumped on the opportunity.
10 more months in the Marine Corps. Then I'm off to pursue my dream of becoming a CHP officer.
