Not related to the main topic of the video, but... it's interesting to see how many of the most prominent entrepreneurs we know today, such as Jobs and Bezos, also had notable family members. Jobs' mother was one of the first employees of the first publicly traded company in Silicon Valley. Bezos's grandfather was one of the founders of the Pentagon. There are many other examples, but the ones mentioned in the video were new to me.
Interesting - we hear so much about the British defensive radar network. Nothing about the Germans' use of radar. I came to Stanford in the late 70's, and spent many an hour studying in the brand new Terman Engineering Center. I had frequently heard Terman referred to as "The Father of Silicon Valley," but I was unaware of how much of its current level of prestige Stanford ultimately owes to the U.S. Government.
Exactly I’ve never heard just how intricate their radar network was.
What a great follow up to your previous videos regarding tech and the military
Great video, I would love a part 2 to this topic, since I think there is a deeper discussion that can be had covering how modern day warfare between countries has changed drastically. Specfically highlighting 2 of the threats that we are facing and what it means for citizens, as well as the private sector. As a example, we could focus on how propaganda has evolved to a dangerous degree thanks to the internet and more specifically the algorthrthims that were developed by private companies to keep users engaged and target ads.

It's sad that all this intellectual property is often made secret. As a society we could' be so much more advanced. If only we shared our knowledge better,
that would require a drastic restructuring of every society on every part of this planet. the largest and most influential ones would refuse since it would force them to limit their capabilities, while the smaller ones would refuse since it would limit their potential.
That is only true IF you assume that the rate at which the discoveries are made remains constant when you “share it better”. The record of advances in societies which force disclosure of information doesn’t support this assumption.

Frank Therman may have solved the question of why Johnson noise was ktb, Boltzmann's constant ▪︎ Kelven temperature ▪︎ radar bandwidth, instead of 4 ktb an oversimple theoretical estimate. This, with its better understanding of thermal noise in radar circuits, was a WWll secret. You may factcheck this checking a footnote in the thermal noise section of a 1941 book "Radar Engineering" by Fink. (I am marginally housed so I couldn'.t keep my father's copy) He, Charles Mack Brown jr. was a Cal Tech EE grad Bs 1943 who quickly became a civilian radar engineer in the US navy and ended up in Lockheed /Sunnyvale and Mercury Nevada.
In 1973 I filed for a patent, us3890161a, Diode Array, for a device which absorbs heat converting it to an equivelent amount of electrical energy via aggrgated rectified Johnson noise from a plurality of consistently aligned diodes.
This would be an outstanding source of electricaĺ energy and refrigeration.
I am taking the pure science road of keeping it open source. Industry, government science, academia, finance, and the military are not configured to develop this easily.
It needs crowdsource grants to develop proof of concept and initial recipe prototypes.
Another approach is to develop a related device now called the thermicay.
The thermicay mainly consists of two electrodes closely face to face (~1 micrometer) in a vacuum wired to an external electrical load. The face of the [Emitter] electrode is covered with a uniform array of LaB6 tipped small diameter carbon nanotubes grown straight out. The face of the [Absorber] electrode is covered with small scale graphine flake char. [Rice U 2014]
Thermal energy mobilized unattached electrons will tend to free themselves outward from the emitter tips and drift at ~1 million meters / second @ 25 millivolts (thermal electron energy @ 20 C) to the absorber which tends to collect them.
A negative charge accumulates on the absorber. This repels oncoming electrons slowing their forward drift, cooling them. The absorber electrode charge is simultaneously the repelling cooling and the external electrical load voltage. The drift current and external wire route current are the same. The DC electrical power consumed by the electrical load depends on the load resistance. Thermal energy absorption always equals the electrical yield.
Wire resistance is a practical loss not a true loss so lt is overcome by added thermary output. The extra cooling balances the heat given off by the wire loss. The performance of the device is expected to be modest in the beginning but improve rapidly. Even early devices are expected to last a long time. There is little place for obsolence if the first installed thermary works adequately. They will withstand being short circuited indefinately up to an electromigration limit.
Here is a thought experiment device that hypothetically creates self powered thermal diversification. The thought experiment device is impractical but easy to visualize and check for mechanical workability. Its parts are large enough to act as everyday mechanisms but small enough to work well with the nanometer scale thermal motions of gas molecules.

Please visualize two roome full of air separated by a very thin wall that allows the rooms to hold their heat independently with minor leakage through the wall. The wall is thin to delicately support billions of separate nanometer scale short axles running straight through loosely enough to rotate freely but not leak very much heat so the rooms can hold separate temperatures.
On the left side, a very small paddlewheel is mounted at the left end of each axle. On the right side, lumped friction elements are mounted stationary in place on the wall, one for each axle, for the right end of each axle to run through. The lumped friction elements convert the mechanical rotation of their axle into heat. The lumped friction elements do not impart Brownian motion to their axle.
Brownian motion (a nanometer scale effect) turns the paddlewheels at random speeds randomly clockwise or counterclockwise. This random rotation is turned into heat by the lumped friction elements.
The committed, linked, and functional roles of the walls, paddlewheels, axles, and lumped friction elements in differnt places should systemically produce a divergence in the thermal energy in the two rooms without adding external energy.

US military is able to help private scientists and enterprises develop advance tech? What do military people know about high tech other than wars and military weapons? It just goes to show that the whistle blowers were right about the US military having acquired ET tech and through back engineering, developed our own high tech. True, our human scientists and engineers are the ones developing our own high tech, but only after what the US military (unacknowledged ones) showed them what can be done. These are what my thoughts are, from all the information out there on the internet.

Military industrial complex
A lot of the best innovations came from elsewhere. I don't look fondly at innovations that were created to more efficiently kill and conquer others, and that's what the military is for. I do however look fondly upon the innovations that came from developing space travel, NASA has been responsible for so many innovations.
Ultimately NASA is still part of the government I despise so much and has helped develop tools of war too, so it isn't that great.
Let's just remember that the US government changed the name of the Department of War to the Department of "Defense" to make it seem like we're not constantly on the offensive.
