Dude, I LOVE the sound of this scale. This is one scale that I found on my own and have been playing around with for the last few months, and then i found this video explaining what it was =)
good lesson ! what you guitar players want to get out of this is the simplicity of the change in the harmonic climate between a dominant sevenths 1 chord and its dominant seventh 4 chord ! harmonic movement is what will make that difference in your playing ! thanks for the great video ! january 7 2010 les copeland
myspace com / questionexclaimed check out our live blues improv jam, played that before seeing this video, lol i didnt kno it was a technique, i just did it cus i liked mixolydian and it worked over the blues progression, like he said, by switching some notes back and forth on the spot lol
Theres nothing in this vid about reading music. Maybe this is more geared to guitarist who might know a little theory, and imo if one doesnt know any theory perhaps a lesson on mixolydian pentatonics is too advanced.
3:24 - A lot of technical reasons? Please. The major 3rd is a semitone away from the fourth. the minor second clashes like crazy. That's not "a lot of technical reasons". That's basic music theory.
Here's what's wrong with this lesson. You are talking to a lot of guitar player here that can't read music and that don't have any music theory training. You are talking to use but not making an sense.
Thanks! Just went on the site to check it out. Seeing more and more of these used by various artists.

good ol' Patik.. reading will never be so plastic without him
yeah a lot of people use anderson. they're bloody expensive but definitely worth the price if you can get them.
I like your approach. I personally prefer playing both the minor and major third on the 1 chord but of course no major third on the 4.
@MrJazzbox Just think of the mixolydian scale being the dorian pattern located at the 5th of the root note(the key your in).
What is the brand of guitar he is using?
what kinda of guitar is that who makes it
I see where your coming from. They have a few songs I like. Id rather see Emil being "solo" like Vai or someone like that ya know?
All the modes are based on one minor scale pattern the Dorian mode. Each subsequent mode is that scale at a different interval. Its easy Dudes!!!=)
Emil from Daath is insane man.
its a Tom Anderson i believe
Isn't this known as the Mixotonic scale?
Decaf brother decaf...
i thought the entire point of pentatonic was to remove the semitones?
The point of soloing is to play chord tones and leading tones. This does that nicely. And trust me when I say Pathik knows his stuff ;)
its a lesson for people who dont.
1 3 4 5 b7? That's not indian pentatonic? Is a really interesting sound
It is!!!
1:46! hahah

we dont need another prince
no offense but if you don't understand this and can't read music doesn't it give you a good reason to go out and learn?
