  • Coming up in this episode - Cape Laveque is not what I expected. I find a stunning camping spot (Bullys Camp) and go looking for crocs with the drone. Bully camp is basic but the location is worth it. I hit the Gibb for the first time and arrive at Wanjina Gorge after dark. For me it feels like the adventure really starts on the Gibb.

    Question - What is your absolute must see bucket list Kimberley location?
    If Christmas day is for family, boxing day is for the individual to relax and enjoy. I hope you had a Merry Christmas!

      Best of the seasons to you and yours too Ferg, you will love it when you get out to McGowans. One of the best camping spots of the whole Kimberley, right on the beach and you will being seeing that great spot in a future episode :D

      fer God's sake, if you buy a chain saw, get it from a reputable mower and small engine specialists. Don't buy cheap from Bunnings or Mitre 10. A somewhat late message I admit lol

    OK Gav, I'm officially rusted on now. Your mature and easy going outlook is so refreshing, nothing like my Melbourne life at all but I do know you are filling up my bucket list every week. I cannot believe how unbelievably beautiful our country is and how drawn to it I feel after watching your CSR trip and this latest Kimberley adventure. As I say in most of your productions, thank you for taking me along for the ride, it's not lost on me how much effort you put in to share what you do, you are doing a wonderful job and really connecting with people who don't just want a muddy Hilux on Sunday night but rather a trip of memories and respectful tourism in the bank that can be viewed in our dreams every night as we sleep. Great Job with this one.........it's a 10.

    Great video love your channel- get a Japanese SILKY saw it will go through that tree in no time - get the 2000 saw or the larger Katanaboy 500 - the Medium teeth are the best for dryer wood -- the bigger the teeth is for greener wood

    Awesome 2nd ep in this series Gav. Goes to show that you can never be over-prepared for trips like this. Regarding crowds, I guess it’s a balancing act in the timing of trips depending on the season and weather conditions etc. I’m like you, I prefer to camp remotely and enjoy solitude rather than deal with the hordes lol. I got to meet Ronny at the Perth 4WD show. Great bloke and i'd love to work with him in the future. It's been an interesting year. I filmed the Kimberley Series and the CSR series at the same time back to back over 6 weeks. I think was 2 weeks in front of Ronny for the Kimberley (I'm also not sure how much of the Kimberley he did) and I was 1 week behind Andrew on the Canning Stock Route. I'm still learning as I go so I decided to edit the CSR series first because it was easier to edit. Then 2 weeks after my CSR series I started my Kimberley series and it just turned out to be luck they line up with what Andrew and Ronny are doing. Not sure if that means I'm getting more or less views as a result lol

    Nice episode mate. Certainly got the idea of Cape Leveque and Kooljaman. Very pretty and lovely destination but yes, swamped with crowds on a regular basis. We were there in 2010, May and copped 240mm of rain in a day , temperature of 40 and 100% humidity. Horrible but will get back up that way again as soon as we can. Hey you didn't see Ronny Dahl on the Munja Track did you. Seems to have found a little trouble out there in the dark. Keep up the good work Gavin. Our favourite part of the world.

    An Irishman buys a chainsaw that guarantees to cut down 40 trees an hour. He starts using it, but finds it only cuts 10 in the hour. Takes it back to the salesman and says "it doesn't cut 40 trees an hour, I only managed 10." With that the salesman starts up the chainsaw to see if anything is wrong. The Irishman says "what's that noise?" Inspired by your chopping Gavin. Cheers from Melbourne!

    Hi Gavin thanks for your incredible effort putting together your Kimberly series, my wife and I will be heading out there in July and your videos have really given us a wonderful preview of what we can expect. We have a long drive from Middle Lagoon on the Dampier Peninsula to Derby and wanted confirm how long it will take? Google maps estimate 8-9 hours but their dirt estimates are sometimes way off so its good to check with someone who has actually done it. Also I will be taking a Mavic Pro on the trip and any drone tips you have would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance Buddy...

    • @GavinGillett
      @GavinGillett  6 лет назад

      Hi Baden, Thanks for watching, i'm glad you enjoy the series. The trip from Middle Lagoon to Derby will depend heavily on track conditions. If it's been recently graded it could take half that amount of time :D As for drone tips, slower is always better and try and capture a variety of angles, heights and distances from your subject to give you as many perspectives to work with as possible. Oh, and watch out for eagles :D They love those little Mavics

    That was a fantastic episode Gav, your comments on the cost benefit ratio in regards to certain camps was spot on. I avoid them like the bloody plague mate. Regarding downed trees, what about a Silky Saw? those silky katanaboy 650's are awesome for large trees and lastly mate, what happened to the old aerial? she went for a Walkabout or stowed safely? lol. The Moose See's all. lol. Happy New Year amigo from a bloody Snowy Cabin in Lapland Cheers Moose

    Love the episodes. But why cant you film the nature while you are talking instead of yourself when you are driving?

      Mostly because I am just one man with a camera working along doing everything from filming, editing, building my website, travelling to new 4wd destinations, running tag along tours and most importantly hanging out with family :D :D I think that about covers it :D
