    Vasili can you please do a segment on your mum’s trees? Very interesting how you mentioned they’re very wide but pruned short. Plus how you prune the new growth. Would be great to know the methods you use. Thanks!

    Love all your videos Vasili, they are so good!! Try Golden Nugget mandarins, late season, what I deem to have the best flavour, fairly easily to peel not as easy as emperor, but far easier than tight skinned varieties, skin gives off lots of oil but it flavour is top notch

    I just started a small citrus spot in my food forest. It’s been hard finding stuff that will grow outside in my zone. I’m zone 8. Ive never even tried the stuff that I planted and can’t find anyone else who grows them. I like most citrus so I feel comfortable planting them without tasting them.

    I was under the impression that you need to buy a dwarf variety if you want to keep them in pots, is that not true? Won’t it become root bound in a pot if it’s meant to grow 2-3m big?

    If you ever get your hands on - try to find a scion of Nagpur Mandarin / Orange 🍊 which is the most unique cultivar of Mandarin I've ever tasted. No wonder, it's that highly prized in India.
    It just tastes really sweet but sour and a unique fragrance of its own. Sadly, it's not that reknowned.

    Hi Vasili love your work, About 4 years ago I grew 2 mandarin trees from seed just to see if I could. The seeds came from the fruit of a chain supermarket here in Vic. I know these trees may not fruit for a few more years yet and that some plants when grown from seed revert back to the root stock, so my question to you is what root stock is commonly used when grafting mandarin?? Cheers

      My mum grew a mandarin from seed and it was almost the same flavour etc as the original imperial she took the seed from.

    Actually the top 2 (if not top 1) mandarin variety is Gold Nugget, which is seedless sweet juicy & flavourful. Unfortunately it's protected by PBA, so u can only buy its fruits but cannot buy its tree unless u r mandarin farmer.

      You can buy it from reputable nurseries in Australia, I got mine from Flower Power :)

    Is the Japanese seedless like the Honey Murcott in flavour? We don't like the Honey Murcott at all.

    • @Patchypup
      @Patchypup 3 года назад

      It's very sweet without much acid ballance unless you harvest early. Also it's the earliest to ripen out of all the mandarins

    • @TheCelticchild

      @@Patchypup Sweetness isn't the problem. It's the horrible taste of the Honey Murcott that I am concerned about. There is no point of buying a tree and going through the process with a tree to find we can't eat the fruit.

      @@TheCelticchild taste is subjective and also depends on growing conditions so the only way to find out for sure is to taste it from someone else or grow it

      All citrus are crossbred species anyway, and seedless fruit are bred to be that way on purpose, its natural selection. All citrus derive from an ancient mandarin variety, polemo, and Citron, that means every lemon and lime and orange isn't natural
