Thank you so much for these videos. They’ve been very helpful in my decision making for my own backyard garden. This one in particular helped me make my decision on our next citrus tree!

Had you try the Mediterranean mandarin ones (Citrus x deliciosa). they are as the same size as satsuma but juicy with seeds, and damn they are delicious, the trees have a distinctive habit with their willow shaped leaves, I think the one that mature at the same season as 'owari satsuma' called 'imperial'.
The other mandarins I like is 'murcott' and 'gold nugget'.

I don't think I have tried those. Do you like the flavor better than Satsumas? What is the flavor like? Maybe I can try to find budwood to try one.
I also like Murcott and Gold Nugget.

    Thank you for sharing.
Your avocado videos have been so helpful as we get started with avocados.
We’re in north county too, where do you like into get your trees?

North County San Diego is heaven for avocado and citrus nurseries. I especially like Clausen's, Maddock, and Subtropica.

Is the Satsuma alternate bearing? Have an old tree in the yard that has hundreds one year & maybe 6 or 7 the next. Sounds like a Satsuma from your description. Thanks!

Hi bad news. Because of HLB it’s very rare to buy this trees anymore. Pretty much the only places left in Ca are Some areas on riverside and San Diego county.

Nice video, Greg. For some reason, the store(s) up here in Anaheim that have had plenty of Satsuma's for sale the past few years, haven't had any this year that I could find. And, as you state, it seems to be near the end of the season for Satsumas. Is there a variety of Satsuma that you prefer over all the others? I still have a Tango mandarin in a 5ga pot, and I left 4 fruit ripen on that tree. I ate them all now. I had 2 in December and 2 in January. They were crazy good! Crazy good!!! Aren't Tangos supposed to be ready in March? I'm looking forward to my very young trees (Tango, Gold Nugget, Tangelo). I do also have a 15 ga satsuma but no fruit yet. I have a Seedless Kishu that I transplanted which is on the Hiryu Flying dragon rootstock that after 15 years that is still only about a foot and a half tall after thinning the rootstock shoots. It has yet to produce fruit after the recent transplant. Maybe this next year. I really like the mandarins over the naval oranges - maybe because they're smaller and easier to eat. I love your videos and the comparisons you do. They are extremely helpful! By the way, there's a farmer who will be selling loads of Seedless Murcotts to Super King markets up here, probably within a few months. They are so tasty. Basically, they are like a Tango. I talked to the farmer and he said he puts a "tent" or a "net" over his trees so that they do not develop seeds. I bought boxes, like "half-bushels" (around 22 pounds) from that store last year because I liked them so much! They were fabulous!

Thanks, Neal. I have heard that some of the northern growers have had some rind breakdown on their Satsumas this year because of all the rain. I agree that Tango is delicious!

this year our kishus have been underwhelming; really sour and not very sweet. maybe i didnt water or fertilize properly. anyway, do you plan on doing any more citrus comparison videos?

Maybe a little more hang time on the tree will help the flavor? I was thinking I would compare some mid or late season mandarins in a couple months. Would that be useful?
