- I've watched @IDICBeer 's channel for a long time. Years.
And he's in a bit of a rut with tenth edition Warhammer 40k, so I wanted to give him my two cents and some food for thought for what to do about it.
Personally, I think a lot of gamers are in the same boat, and some have said so. This is my response.

Many thanks for making such a great response video, you are 100% correct on all of your points. My main issue is lack of opponents, I did manage to get Richard to play some 3rd edition missions at the end of 9th, so he is certainly up for it sometimes. As for terrain, I do have a lot already, just need to set it up more thematically for those none match play games. Sadly I have no room for more terrain, but I have always wanted a snow board for my Eye of Terror Space Wolves army.

I think you could find some "retro" players around though. Start talking it up, I think you'd be surprised.
Also, terrain wise, what about Battlemats and scatter? Easy enough to make a mat and a box worth of scatter. Doesn't take a ton of room.

I sold off 40k in 2020 started in 96.
However I am the competitive gamer. I quit because 40k is pretending it is a competitive game.
40k was my oasis for a beer and pretzels game. I could just kick back embrace my inner big mek and goto town making absurd new ork things. Then having a laugh.
I can dig into if you really want... but essentially it was 2 books in 8th that made me step back. Dark eldar, I was really hyped about getting them back on the table.... it was ugly and it created a negative play experince for everyone involved and I had 2 better lists waiting in the wings. Followed by iron hands, and the casuals net listing harder than your typical try hard crew.
The casuals pretending they are competitive players is not a healthy thing for a game. I am a mk2 warmachine veteran I have seen this dog n pony show before. No thanks.
So i found a different casual game to fill my beer and pretzels need.
I'm with you there. I'm mid a move but my plans when I get settled are to go full steam with One Page Rules and possibly Warcaster, if it still exists.

Than one that shocked us was deadzone from mantic. Great little game they got there.
We keep waiting to see what mkiv warmachine does. With steamforged now in there. My curiosity is peeked but guildball and godtear... both sitting on my shelf. One sees regular play the other has been collecting dust since it was abandon.
@@snarkymcsnarkface1863 The more I hear the more I think I'm going in the right direction with OPR. I want to print a few armies and record a narrative campaign. I was going to do this for Warcaster but the wind is somewhat out of my sails - I think SFG will drop that game unfortunately.
@@SavageBruski OPR seems to have kept everyone around here happy. Those that wanted to keep their armies did. Those of us that wanted a new adventure got one.
I have printed out and painted about half of a new demon army. I also kept all of my creature caster proxies and a few of the converted daemons I had done. So my demons will be ready for the fall league.
I never stopped my inner big mek from loot'n and scratch building. Over the lock downs. I basically had an entire grot "Gobi" armored division of kans and tanks built. It was just something to do and I was not paying forgeworld prices for something I could make with plasticard and a lot of extra time. When we dumped GW from the hobby I just ripped off the GW bits and whipped up some 3d models of weapons, printed them and bob was an uncle. So that is what I have been playing with.
Currently I am 3d modeling my new gobi replacements, got plans and sketches for the squig replacements already done. Just need to get them modelled up and then do "cavalry".
They will be a blend of house elf and the 3rd ed ork codex art. One of the heads i am nearly finisjed has both of his ears pierced with leather straps so his goggle fit better on his head. Another has half his face replaced with a metal plate and bolts sticking out with a water canteen as a replacement ear. Bringing back the grim and dark one model at a time.
As for warmachine. We are on a wait as see. Given steamforged games track record I am not holding my breath. I have two games from them already that I love and they don't know how to support.

Yep. If you can change the meta you can change what sells.
None of your ideas hold any water in my world, 40k is dead to me for this edition. I do have belive sfg are legit in their intentions to grow Warmachine, and not drop it. Time will tell.

@@SavageBruskiWarcaster never appealed to me, and to my knowledge sfg did not purchased Warcaster.
They did. They own all the Ik Properties, and Warcaster is included.
Ok did not even know Warcaster was part of Iron kingdom. I jumped to conclusion that you belived they aimed at dropping Warmachine, sorry. That might happen though but it certainly don't seem like their intention at the moment.
