Great video Alex. Haven’t sailed to the isles since the 80’s in a 33 foot Rhodes swift sure, always had a great time when we got the tides right. Will be interesting to see how the new boat goes always sailed mono hulls sure the pace will be thrilling.
Hi Alex, Iwatched most of your Marekai episodes & enjoyed. them all .I Keep an old Seal 22 on the Hamble so quite similar , I"m now. an old geezer of 81 ,but in my 50 s & 60s I Ihad a mk 1 followed by a mk 2 TELSTAR & had loads of fun in both you'll discover a whole new dimention of boating , terrific creek crawling , tiny harbours in inches of water (I'm the only sailor I know who's been to Mont St Michel , The Minquiers And lots of other gems of the Chanel Islands & Normandy & Brittany . your extra speed (14 knots IN my mk 2) will enable longer faster passages . . In my experience the build quality isn't great &the armas leak at the hull deck joint in a seaway . The centreboard in my mk 1 also rotted off at hull level (old plywood but despite their faults they're very seaworthy , Iran up the straits of Alderney & through the Swinge IN a7 gusting 9 < scared the pants off me ...)One. tip you may find useful is to fit a pulley on. the bow of each arma on flexible mountings &run the spinnaker sheets thro them so no pole needed ..works a treat Best of luck. PETE I envy the great fun you're going to have.
Oh wow that’s brilliant! I’m loving this new boat so far! The speed makes a big difference and being the Telstar 28 it’s quite the upgrade from the original! Hopefully I bump into you out on the water next season!
Cool video Alex. I was born in Guernsey( now in Australia) and fond memories of trips to Herm, Sark and Alderney. I remember visiting the uncle back in 95 and we took his boat over to Herm and swimming in what was freezing cold water to me. Thanks for sharing.
@@lukegriffith2704 thank you! I definitely can do. Usually put my route animation in the video when I remember to and for anchorages I could probably do some anchorage reviews as I have done a few before but haven’t in a while!
You should be very proud of this channel - obviously a talented engineering background but I know how long it can take to edit these clips & what an adventure buying a non-local boat & sailing it back. People pay a small fortune for a charter of the same nature so I'm sure you got yourself a bargain! Keep em coming.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the support! Editing does take ages but these adventures are so worth it and I love sharing them too. A heap of work needs doing to her but I did get her for a great price! Thanks for watching😀
That looks superb. Thanks for posting. We are hoping to get to the Channel Islands in 24. I did not think there were any formalities to complete. I must re read my guide lol. Some wonderful sailing there and interesting tidal work. Your boat will be great once you have time to work on her. Ours is out at Dolphin (Dart) for winter repairs.
Great episode. We did the crossing from Portland to Guernsey last year in a 20-30 knot south westerly. Needless to say I’ve had more pleasant sailing experiences! Ended up being pushed east and having to make a stop in Cherbourg 😂
Great video. Love the new boat. Have you sold Meraki yet? I'm currently fixing up a jaguar 25 moored in North Devon. It's maiden voyage might be a sail from Ilfracombe to the river dart where im looking to move it. I'd love to sail to the Channel Islands.
Going to channel Islands is on my bucket list. I think your new boat is fantastic, I don't think you have given us a full tour yet, correct me if I'm wrong. I'd like to be more experienced, before going to the islands. Do you have any suggestions to gain confidence for such a journey.
Terrific episode. Thanks!
Thank you!!!
Nice video Alex, I’m liking the boat a lot, I think it is a good fit for you. How about a proper tour of the interior! Rob
That’s coming very soon! Just after the crossing I think!

Thank you I really appreciate it! It’s a lovely place and I will be back. This new boat will be wicked fast or that’s what I’m hoping for anyway!

That awesome! The water is still freezing 😂
Really cool videos Alex , do you think you could show your charted passages and insight to Anchorages 😀

You must be having the time of your life with the new boat. All that space and the possibility of trans oceanic travel. Happy sailing.👍
I’m loving it! Just wait until you see some of my upcoming adventures!
Looks like.your having a blast hopefully you missed the last few storms lol hows the living space on the new boat?
@@pilksuk love the space this new one has! So good!

I’m also planning a trip there in 24 and I’m excited to explore some more! Might see you out there!
Enjoyed the video change of pace with the new boat Look forward to more.
Cheers Jeff!
6:52 The best transition on RUclips! Haha.
😂I try my best!

Blimey I bet that was an adventure! I wish I had a bit more wind for the crossing but you will see that very soon!
Nice one mate :)
Thank you!!!

Meraki is currently up for sale! That would be a great place to sail. I’m going to sail to the Channel Islands next year! You should tag along!

I will do a tour very soon! Start with smaller trips and just build up to it. Isles of Scilly is a good challenge before Channel Islands.
when was this done because we had non stop storms there for three weeks?
September last year!
What is your motor.
I have a 9.8 2stroke, surprisingly quiet and vibration free.
On my Woods Gypsy
It’s a 4 stroke. It’s just the bracket that it sits on that’s the problem. Mostly because it’s on a lifting bucket system. Should be a simple fix!
I have 3 words to say about the new boat and the channel islands, Lizzie, Lizzie, Lizzie ❤
Can't remember anything else 😂 (joking obviously)
😂
