    When Donna magically appears in the TARDIS for the first time, among the "Who are you" and "What the hell is this place?" There's a split second at the end of one of Donna's lines where she's smiling at someone off-screen before the camera switches back to tennant saying "what!?"

    My favourite mistake is in The idiots lantern when the doctor is on the TV tower chasing Mr Magpie with the wire, when the wire blasts at the doctor , it cuts to a bird's eye view looking down at the doctor with the ground below - u can clearly see the doctor's foot disappear as David Tennants foot must of gone off the green screen section used for this scene - still cracks me up - the time the doctor lost his foot

    In the brilliant episode 'The Doctor's Wife', Idris, the Tardis inside a human body censures the Doctor - asking him what the instructions are on the door of the Tardis - which is 'Pull to Open'. She then tells the Doctor that he always pushes the Tardis doors inwards, when he should be opening them outwards. Whilst it is true that police box doors did open outwards, the 'Pull to Open' instruction actually relates to the small door to the cupboard that contains the phone (directly behind the pull to open instruction and other information about the phone). This phone was not only for police officers to use, but also members of the public to summon a police officer. It is the only part of the police box that is accessible by the public (unless they were unfortunate to be detained and placed inside of the police box, which could also double as a small cell). This door does indeed open outwards and therefore, is pulled to open.

    • @LMC97
      @LMC97 2 года назад +16

      Finally. Someone says it. I loved The Doctor's Wife episode but that whole line about the bottom instruction referring to the main TARDIS door rotation was just silly. Even a kid with a TARDIS toy could tell the instruction "Pull to Open" was referring to the very small door that the sign with the instruction was attached to. It takes me a while to explain that to others that the instruction was intended for the public to use the phone behind the small door. As you stated, the public wouldn't be going inside the police box itself unless they were detained in one until back up came. It is true that real police box doors opened outwards. Well, only one door. The other side was a fix wall on most police boxes. It does make sense that the door was swing outwards considering how much space there is in a real police box. My best guess to why the TARDIS doors swing inside is to help hide the true inside of the TARDIS prop.

      There’s always a shot like that when the camera switches POV during lines. Watch jawlines for similar timing mistakes. When the camera goes from focusing on speaker face to over their shoulder, you sometimes (read: 90%) get alternate takes of line deliveries that don’t match the movement of their jaws as they speak.
      Also, if it’s an action shot where the actor has a complicated/long dialogue whilst doing an activity, you can hear the audio sound hollow from the looping booth as they try to dub in a proper delivery over their onscreen actions. For some inane coincidence, YT suggested a clip of Greg Grunberg’s Group Sex to me this morning. It’s him and his buddy discussing the main love interest as Greg shoots basketball hoops in their studio. He’s running back and forth with the ball and the audio suddenly hollows out in the middle of it and I’m surprised matches up with him finishing his lines facing the camera. Props to that editor, but also a demerit for the audio quality.

    • @DemetriusSorvo
      @DemetriusSorvo 2 года назад

      These aren't mistakes, guys. It's how modern TV is edited. Doctor Who hasn't been multi camera since the 1980s. Editors have certain rules of motion to follow when editing. Because of the way the brain works it's not always necessary to exactly match up actors between shots.

    • @mysticwhovian2734
      @mysticwhovian2734 2 года назад

      @@DemetriusSorvo I know, but given how Arthur Darvill takes up a good portion of the frame in both shots, it feels like an oversight of the editors to not take this into account when putting the shots together.

    There are a ton in the 50th anniversary. Most notably, there is a shot of Matt’s script on the TARDIS console during the explanation to the general about the plan to freeze Gallifrey. There is also a thing with Matt’s Fez when Both of the Elizabeths kiss 10. It would’ve totally ruined the episode, but it would’ve made a lot more sense.

      In the very first episode, the guys (manually!) operating the internal Tardis doors either don't fully synch with each other, or one of the doors gets stuck! One door opens sooner than the other.
      Also, of course, Bill Hartnell forgets his lines, and often calls Ian "Chesterfield", not "Chesterton". Having said that, Hartnell was a consummate professional and would notice if a switch on the console were in the wrong position or there was an obvious error in continuity. Bougainvillea does not have a perfume. In one episode The Doctor (David Tennent) goes into a jungle and fills his lungs with air and exclaims “bougainvillea I love that smell” but they don’t smell.

    I think I spotted a reflection of the moon in one episode that looked more like the moon as it is than an upside down mirror image as it ought to have been. Perhaps that wasn't in Doctor Who. I don't remember where I saw it. It just looked odd, and I had to have another look to see if it was just an image of the moon or a reflection of it! I was pretty sure it was a right way round moon instead of a reflection!

    I actually really liked the Legend Of The Sea Devils. Maybe it wasn't the end of the world/universe type of drama that you might expect from a special, and seemed more like an normal episode, but I actually preferred that. It was an interesting story, which I'll take over an exhilarating shock/end-of-the-world factor episode. And I know this kind of thing is especially subjective, but I loved the scene where Yaz and The Doctor admit to their feelings for each other. It felt very genuine and true to The Doctor's character, and his tendency to be too afraid of loss to truly live - the consequence of having lived too long, and seen and lost too much. Honestly this has been added to my list of favourite episodes, purely for the rare insight it gives into The Doctor's true self, underneath the different personas and coping mechanisms of different regenerations. One of the things I love about Doctor Who, on a deeper level than thrilling adventures through time and space, is getting to truly know and relate to The Doctor, which is why I love episodes with rare little insights like this. It also helps to confirm in my mind my personal theory that despite The Doctor's body changing, I don't think his gender or sexuality does all that much - or personality, deep down, for that matter. It's always the same things that drive him, the same things that matter to him, and the same things that he struggles with - which I think, deep down, are what makes a person who they are. Meaning that The Doctor is always, deep down, the same person. And it's experiences, not regenerations, that truly change him. I'm not going to go into detail on the gender thing, but I will say this: what woman forgets she's not a man?

    • @Mx.Phoenix
      @Mx.Phoenix Год назад

      Pretty sure it's less that she forgets she's not a man and more that she forgets that people will treat her differently for it. She even says in one of Whittaker's first episodes "this would be so much easier if I was still a man". When only one thing about you changes, it can be surprising how differently people will treat you as a result even though you're still the same person.
