I'm not worthy! This guitar was personally hand crafted in a remote Japanese mountain villager by master guitar luthier Kazuo Yairi using only the worlds finest woods and naturally drying them to achieve maximum tone. Unique hand-sanded bracing, dovetail neck joints with revolutionary bridge & neck design all make this a truly inspiring instrument; you just want to pick it up and go to town!
Clearly this Yairi CY127CE guitar exceeds my ability to play it. There is a long and interesting story tied to this guitar (which had a "Top Ten" hit written on it) but maybe I'll save that for another time; perhaps an entire dedicated video would be appropriate. Let's talk about the guy who made this guitar and was so proud of his handiwork he put his signature on it.
Kazuo Yairi's father worked for Suzuki as a luthier in the 1920s, left Suzuki around 1929 and started making guitars in his own workshop. Son Kazuo started his own workshop when he was 18 and was later joined by his brothers.
probably the most renowned guitar luthier in Japan, Kazuo Yairi's long career began as a child when he watched his father building unique handcrafted instruments for local students and musicians. As he grew older and absorbed nutrients, mainly from food, his body grew larger as did the guitar company under his leadership. Kazuo developed several new models, always with the tradition of his father in mind. Kazuo never made a single electric guitar, though requested to time and again. He felt it was important to go with what you know and enjoy, and he very much enjoyed building acoustic guitars. Kazuo mentored and developed several noted luthiers over the years, many of whom worked for him over 30 years! Sadly, Yairi-san passed away in March 2014 but luckily we can still hear him through his guitars.
Perticularly popular in Germany, Yairi guitars were imported by Goetz and had a stellar reputation for craftsmanship and incredibly sounding classical and steel string guitars.
