    • @Scarletraven87
      @Scarletraven87 5 лет назад +15

      It's ... particular. With passing decades there's always stripping of things they teach you in school, which could be ok or could be not. It depends. But usually after 80-something years you end up with "oh we had so much class back then and we were people of culture". Cursive has the sole purpose of writing faster by hand, and it is clearly unecessary in the current era. It won't save people from decadence. Therefore we should ask ourselves what will and rush to save it.

    • @baffledbumblebee
      @baffledbumblebee 5 лет назад +14

      Teachers have enough on their plates - cramming in both their actual lesson plans + teaching whatever standardized tests they're forced to give... Adding a new useless skill on top of that is ridiculous.
      Back when I was taught it in elementary school 80s-90s, I was an honor roll student with straight A's, but because of a "handwriting class" in 8th grade (!!!) that got attached to part of the English class curriculum I ended up with a B because I failed that part! I was a lefty, and as many left-handers did, I had trouble with cursive. I got dropped a full letter grade because of my damned handwriting. I can't believe they're still teaching it in some places or starting it back up - I mean, maybe teach it, (for signatures? Idk why else you'd use it -writing checks?) But certainly don't make it part of their actual grades.

    • @gregnubody3871
      @gregnubody3871 5 лет назад +12

      Cursive takes a LOT longer to write in. It's not many people's default, and when it is, you can't read it. It's a ton of class time I could've used to be further in math or science, history or geography. You know. Useful stuff.

    In Boston we learn to write using a dip pen, ink well and the Palmer Method, I think it was in the 3rd or 4th grade. If you stop writing, but leave the pen touching the paper, you end up with a big blob of ink on the paper. What fun. I graduated high school in 1961 and was never taught to print. The only time I print is when I am typing. If you notice, I also use commas. People have asked me why. I show them how important commas are. Take for example this sentence, "Woman without her man is nothing.". Now the same words but with two meanings. "Woman, without her, man is nothing." "Woman, without her man, is nothing."

    I actually agree with the California law. How many times in an ugly divorce has someone demanded the pet, not because they love it or sincerely want it, but because they want to hurt their spouse who does love the animal dearly? How many times does that self same pet end up abused or abandoned because it was treated as property instead of a living, feeling creature? At least in one state the pet will go to the person who actually cares for the animal, instead of the one wanting to use it to hurt the other person.

    • @TK0_23_

Ditto for some Italian medical records. The only worse handwriting I've seen is from Russians, but Russian cursive is always hard for me to read even if written by a steady hand.

It's so hard to stop animal abuse when they're looked at as property. Being in animal rescue for a few decades now, I would like to see some harsher punishments. This law doesn't really address that, but it may begin the process of viewing these critters differently.
