    Kudos to you and your lovely wife for raising your family in the way you do. I myself just turned 60 and we were raised in very much the same way but on a farm here in the Salt River Valley of Arizona. Our Dad and Grand Dad raised cattle, grew barley, corn; for silage, sweet corn for us, alfalfa, millet, milo maize, lettuce, watermelon and our number one crop was cotton. We did it all ... .
    .and loved every second of it. Even back then it was something that occurred very naturally, starting really young with more independence and responsibility as we "grew up". Its really quite interesting as we used to " road" certain wheel tractors from my Grand Dad's place in North Central Phoenix, 27 miles to our home farm in Chandler through traffic along 19th Avenue from Northern Ave, all the to Baseline Road, I was 9. We learned to drive on the roads waaay before 16 when most people had to have a driver's license.
    I digress,.... love you channel and your experiences raising your kids.. Its so cool!
    Warnest Regards from Arizona.

    I found out surgical wire is the best way to dehorn cows with banana horns. You can usually get a roll of wire and the handles from your farm supply store. One piece of wire will dehorn several cows and you don't have to worry about a saw slipping and injuring a cow. Plus as you saw the wire back and forth, it will get extremely hot and most of the time it will courtorize the horn so they don't bleed as much. Also the hair grows back much faster.

    Yeah, I'm setting my three grand daughters today and tomorrow is my regular day for the three. Sometimes they really try my patience. lol When we did the Vaccinate and Castrate, Bob always had a milk jug cut to where he'd toss the oyster in the jug. He'd run all the way up to the Main House and dump them for his Mom to cook up. Never could stomach them Rocky Mountain Oysters. lol Loved the video Ladies and Gents!

    If you pull the 3 veins in the horn with a plyers with a yank so the vein tears off they stop bleeding and heal faster than from the straight cut of the saw. Dad gave me a new plyers when I was 8. little did I know the next day I got to use them to pull the veins since I had small enough hands and a nice plyer on me. Have you ever had a runt and poured the liquids out of the skull, when you cut horns? It stinks but they do grow better once you do it. Hard working family. Stay safe and healthy.

      @@anchorbrandranch not many, maybe one every other year, I try to get them with paste as calves, but I do have a few of the 225 a year I do that rub the paste off or get it licked off. Cold here when we paste, so I don't need to worry about flies. And probably quite a few less critters than you as well as a little more confined situation which makes paste easier for me.

  • @williambryant5946
    @williambryant5946 3 года назад

    You cut the horns off the one cow and they both bleed but the first side was shooting a stream out. How do you get that to stop? I know that can of spray helps with small amounts of bleeding and is like an all around antibiotic but that stream just kept gushing and I didn't see how you stopped that. I was always under the impression that you didn't want to cut a cows horns off that far back because of bleeding kind of like a roosters leg spurs. I had around 100 chickens at one time of all different kinds, I've only got 12 layers and a rooster now. Some of the 100 were for laying and others because I just wanted them because of the look and I enjoy them. I've cut the spurs off of several roosters after I had one get me one time and caused me to have to make a trip to the ER. I was told by a man that had fighting chickens not to cut them way back because it would bleed and the chicken could possibly loose too much blood and die so I thought that horns on animals was the same way but I don't know. So I'm just curious as to if you have to get it to stop or will it eventually clot on it's own after a few minutes? I've worked with cows and horses for one summer while out of school on summer break but that was over 20 years ago. I live out in the country side in central NC which is nowhere near as far out in the country as you are. I've dabbled in a lot of different farming related things. I've been a heavy equipment operator for almost 18 years for a small grading and hauling company. The owners wife has a "hobby farm" with around 30 black angus cows, one bull, and a mule. I help with fence work, feeding, and rounding up the calves for selling once a year but haven't been around for any veterinarian type things so I don't know much about that part. It's really awesome to see your children helping out on your ranch. It does a lot of character building and instills in them a good work ethic. Neat video. Stay well. -Wil 👍

      There are a few ways to do it with cow horns. Most often it will clot on its own in a couple minutes. Cotterise it with a hot iron. Or put a string or wire tight around the base of both horns.
