Ramsey, those sputter sticks (welding rods )you have and the 6011's are great for using as heavy duty tie wire or redneck cotter pins.
The only welding rods you need on the farm are 6013s and 7018s. They're both low hydrogen welding rods and weld great without all the sputtering. They will make people think you're a professional welder. I had a neighbor that welded professionally for over 60 years recommend them to me when I bought my first welding equipment and started welding for myself on the farm. I couldn't lay a smooth bead with 6011s and he recommended the 6013s and what a difference it made.

Hahaha you just reminded me of something when you were banging on that starter. When I was 16 my Dad's GMC , 3 on the tree, was my ride to work. It would lock up between gears pulling away. So in the middle of an intersection in town I would be under the hood banging on the shifter (linkage?) In a skirt and high heels. I was embarrassed then, but now 50 years later I would just be getting a kick out of making people laugh. 😅 Country girls do what we gotta do. No more high heels with dresses, just cowgirl boots. Lol thanks for that memory. ABR your the best. Cheers from Nova Scotia. Time to feed the horses.❤

Be careful with welding bottles that have been on their side! I don’t know about oxygen but acetylene gas is bad because u can weld with some of the stabilizer in it and when that is gone=boom. Or so I understand.

309 is stainless steel just use 6010,6011, or 7018 also take your solenoid stud off your starter on your welder and there is a copper stud you can rotate and it wont click like that you can do the same on your kenworth. also you can use a tip cleaner on your oxy-acetylene torch and get a lot more cuts out of your tips
