There is no "bad" place to start with Waylon Jennings, man. Waylon is absolutely fantastic. Although most people discovered Waylon as being the balladeer for the TV show The Dukes of Hazzard, he was a country music legend way before that. Country music royalty, if tou will. And, for good reason.
The Highwaymen consists of Waylon Jennings, Willy Nelson, Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson. Legendary to say the least. Check out their Live performance of "Highwaymen"
Yes! a must watch.. my favorite is Silver Stallion & Highwaymen! 💕😁
That is an awesome song...!!! His son Shooter Jennings remade the song after he died..also worth checking out. Good Old Boys is a great one to check out!!❤
Waylon is a legend. One of the "Outlaws". If you saw the "Dukes of Hazzard" TV show, he performed the theme song and narrated the episodes.
"Luckenbach, Texas (Back To The Basics Of Love)" and "Amanda" also cover the musician's life in a gentler way.
I'm very surprised that most people knew he sang the Dukes of Hazzard song, but don't realized he was the narrarator for the show! He said it was the easiest money he ever made!! He said sometimes he just done it on the bus and mailed it to them! lol Sounds Like Waylon!! 🎤🎸❤
I’m a Rambling Man or Mammas don’t let your babies grow up to be cowboys are a couple of good ones.
I appreciate all of Waylon’s songs. Some are slow, some are fast, but they all tell a story. “Luchenbach,TX” is one of his more popular songs. Also “momma’s don’t let your babies grow up to be cowboys “ featuring Willie Nelson.
The father of outlaw country. Truly a king. We miss you Waylon
Not only is Waylon Jennings a Country legend, he was also involved in the early days of Rock and Roll. He famously toured as bassist for Buddy Holly after the Crickets broke up.
“Good Hearted Woman” “Tonight The Bottle Let Me Down” “Waymores Blues” “Bob Wills Is Still The King” “Only Daddy That’ll Walk The Line” “The Taker” “Lonesome On’ry and Mean” “ Honky Tonk Heroes” “Rainy Day Woman” “I Ain’t Livin Long Like This” “Storms Never Last” and the theme from The Dukes of Hazzard ☮️♥️😎🤟🏼
I knew Walon pretty good I worked on the stage crew at Billie Bobsfrom'78 to '89. Incredibly great man We sat on his bus until 5 or so,drinkin.smokin. and snortin. The whole time played his acoustic & sang a very incredible half/ hour concert for just us stage crew. The man could certainly ptoject.Very large man,6'6 & abut 27o.
When my brothers were younger back in the 1960's, our oldest sister had one of his record albums. We would always make fun of him when she'd play his stuff. She'd just chuckle with us, and say "Go ahead, laugh. This guy will be listened to and enjoyed fifty years from now. How did she know?
Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings song "Mama Don't Let Your babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys" is one of my all time favorites and you will truly enjoy how their voices blend.
You REALLY need to see Ken Burnes " History of Country Music. Freaking BRILLIANT! ALL WILL BE REVEALED!
I love Waylon. His wife lives near me. Family still in music. Legend doesn’t even describe.
Dear God I miss him.
It was a great place to start. IMO Waylon Jennings and Jessie Coulter were the sweethearts of country. They sang together and their best song is Storms never last.
Sending love and gratitude
Always love to hear Waymore sing. When I was a little boy, in Arizona. Waylon was a DJ. At raido Station. KHAT. In 1964, he done his show at the Az. State fair, I spent my intire time at the fair, with Waylon. And had red&black boots just like Waylon's.
I saw Waylon in concert about a year before his passing and it was 2 hours of music and story telling of his Outlaw days of the 60's, 70's and 80's. I grew up listening to Outlaw Country Music like, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Kris Kirstoferson, Hank Williams Jr., Merle Haggard and many more. They broke away from that super refined Nashville sound. It takes me back to my youth, such good times.
You my dude have stepped into the best kind of country there is...outlaw. Nothing else compares to this kind of music. Waylon is one of the greatest to ever do it. My grandpa gave me great taste in music lol.
What's not to like? Waylon is wonderful.
One of my favourite Waylon songs is 'Ain't Living Long Like This'.
Thanks Matthew! I have put your recommendation straight on the list! 👍🏻
One of my favorites also.
He's buried in my city - Mesa Arizona. I visited his humble grave last spring and left some fresh flowers for him.
What a wonderful thing to do! 👏🏻
Absolutely one of my favorite musicians a cross all genres.
Waylon had the first triple platinum album in country music
From that same Austin City Limits concert Waylon's performance of "Don't You Think This Outlaw Bit's Done Got Out Of Hand" is 🔥🔥🔥
MY MAN!!!!! FINALLY - THE GOAT OF COUNTRY!!!! the Original OUTLAW!!!!! & 1st country artist to sell 1 million records!!!
Back in the 70 s my Dad cowboyed for a living I remember him coming home on the weekends in South Dakota and playing Waylon Jennings of drinking was involved but he quit drinking and still listened to Waylon
When I was in college I had an 8 track, yes I'm that old, of Waylon and Willie Nelson songs. Listened to it just about every day on the hour drive to class. Anything Waylon sang was gold.
Waylon played guitar for Buddy Holly. Waylon and Johnny Cash roomed in Nashville along with Kris Kristofferson. They shared songs and drugs and booze. He lived hard and he lived fast. He was an "outlaw" in that he (along with the likes of Willie Nelson, Tompall Glasser, Kris Kristofferson, Rita Coolidge, and others) shunned the Nashville music machine for being too rigid in the style of "Country" they wanted to produce. He was one of a kind and Texas' (my home) music scene adored them all and embraced them. Whether you "react" or not, if you want to enjoy more try out "Bob Wills Is Still The King," "Wurlitzer Prize," "Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way?"
The Pride of Littlefield Texas.
The Outlaws album is one of the greatest of all time. I saw Waylon and Johnny Cash at a free show in Littlefield.
Old time pickin for sure. I love the sound of a steel guitar, I loved listening to my dad play.
None can compare to Waylon Jennings!
Waylons wife Jessie Colter did one song that hit. It was called I'm Not Lisa. All us kids loved it and went around singing in like idiots for at least a year. Check it out. Its one of those songs like Kenny Roger's Lucille that hit with a bang and was on the radio constantly.
Anita Your Dreaming is one of Waylon's first hits. He wrote it also. You can find a live performance of it also. He wrote it based on an affair that he had. He was considered an outlaw.
Waylon was in Buddy Holly's band. He gave up his seat on the plane that crashed on February 3rd, 1959, killing Buddy Holly and three others. The day the music died. ... When Jennings told Holly that he was going to take the bus, Holly jokingly told him he hoped the bus broke down, to which Jennings replied, “I hope your ol' plane crashes". He said that it took him a long time to get over that. Course they were just kids really.
Thanks for reacting to
Waylon ! He was the
'Coolest Cat' in Country Music.
A career that spans 4 decades
with over 60 albums. And was
instrumental in producing the
first ever Country album to go
Platinum. "Wanted" The Outlaws in 1976.
This is one of the songs about my life. I would have been insane long ago if I wasn't bats**t crazy. This song told me early on that I was ok.
When he passed, his son Shooter was donating all his concert clothing. The church called & said they appreciated all the clothing but each suit had bags of cocaine in it. THAT was "HOSS!"
Listen to him with the rest of the Highway men. I grew up listening to him and the Highway men. I fortunately half of them have passed away . Not forgotten but now happy to have Chris Stapleton. Dan in Edmonton Alberta ,Canada. Thanks for your review . Hope you can see why us in the west of North America love our country music.
Only Daddy That Will Walk the Line is a great Waylon song and his first hit record!
Here is Waylon Jennings doing a song about Hank Williams: "Are you sure Hank Did It This Way? It's a banger!" ruclips.net/video/kIB5bA9T5uQ/видео.html
Oh, yeah! Check out that one for sure!
A "different" place to start with Waylon is when he sings with Anita Carter (Johnny Cash's sister-in-law). They do a Kris Kristofferson song, "No One's Gonna Miss Me When I'm Gone." You might do this to react to Waylon's voice in this song but also to react to the incomparable voice of Anita Carter. In Johnny Cash's song "Were You There" Anita is the one with the beautiful high voice that sings, "Ohhhhh, sometimes it causes me to tremble" and then June and Anita and Mother Maybelle and Johnny all come in with the word "tremble" each person going a bit lower and then they all join in to sing "were you there when they crucified my Lord?". BEAUTIFUL song and I think it owes a great deal to the part that Anita sings. She could have won many awards but she never wanted to sing lead, she was quite happy and even preferred to just sing harmony with someone else.
Waylon Jennings was where outlaw country began. Him & his wife Jessie Coulter, Hank Williams jr, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, kris kristofferson etc...Kris was mostly a song writer for a lot of people. I think your next one should be Waylon Jennings...Outlaw Bit!!
This was in his later years. I believe he had Diabetes here. Also, in this concert he does a duet with his wife Jessi Coulter called Honkey Tonk Angels. She also used to play keyboard & sing back-up for Waylon. Try Only Daddy That'll Walk the Line. They all look sooo young! But something you should definitely check out Waylon Jennings on the Rosie O'Donnell show. He's older here too. He plays a song called Kissing You Goodbye. Then he joins her for a quick interview about his book & you understand him a little more. If you can't do a reaction, I still think you would enjoy it. It's really not that long. Definitely worth it!!
Now you should do the one his wife Jessi Coulter sings. It's called I'm not Lisa! Just her and a piano. Beautiful & it has my name in it! lol It really is amazing!! 💖🤠
One of the greatest of all time.
A real southern man's music ,through and through!
He was awesome. I suggest one he did with Willie Nelson, called "Clean Shirt!"
Yes! They were know as the outlaws for a little while. Fantastic guitar riffs!
Any place is a good place to start with Waylon.
You really can't go wrong with any song from Waylon Jennings, one of my favourites is "where corn don't grow"
You might like. I be
I watched a guy who made Waylon's guitars. After Waylon got more popular her started ordering from this guy. He hand done all that white on there. Waylon never went to another style!! You still should do the song Outlaw Bit & one Him & Hank jr. Sang called The Conversation! Hank Jr has some fun songs too! The Coalition...Kalijah...Dinosaur...Mr. Weatherman...If Heaven Ain't a Lot Like Dixie...etc..
He was guitar player for Buddy Holly when the place crashed, He had traded his seat to the Big Bopper.
The Statler brothers. Bed of roses should be one.
Waylon is amazing. Give a listen to Luckenbach. Pure country.
I've always loved this song. So catchy and true for many of us! 😊
I really liked listening to Waylon Jennings Outlaw Sh*t. On RUclips. It is a sad story of how he was busted by the man. All a misunderstanding, but you can feel the hurt in his voice.
Although this is an old video, I would like to have you continue to witness the Legend of Waylon!
Highwaymen - Are You Sure Hank Done it this Way (live)
Lonesome, Onry, and Mean - from his greatest hits - got to witness his overload in aster Guitar Status!
Alabama Tennessee River live. The first of 43 number 1 hits. They're the only music artist to have 21 consecutive number one hits.
You should here Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson do a duet of any of their songs. Talk about legends. Try only Daddy That Will Walk The Line.
Love your awe over Waylon.
You might also like "Waymore's blues". Or an older one... "Storms never last" duetting his lovely (now widow)wife Jessi Colter...A star and legend in her own right. ☺
I love all the many songs he did, not a bad one anywhere, my personal favorite is Amanda, his wife did the back up with him. He and Merle, Johnny, willie and Kris were for sure The beginnings of Outlaw Country. You should check out the history of how Kris Kristofferson got the song demo for Sunday Morning Coming Down, to Johnny Cash, great story.
He's one of the GOAT'S , you can't go wrong with anything you get to hear, Thank You Sir for your reaction, hope you and your family have a Blessed Thanksgiving 🙏
Happy Thanksgiving to you, your family and friends! Enjoy the day! 😀
I still have the concert t shirt from 96 waymore blues part two. Excellent concert
Guess you don't have to question why we LOVE Waylon Jennings!! This was later in his life. There's a whole concert of his on you tube. He was younger & skinnier. But, they broke up every song into individual live videos! Kind of an oxymoron! lol But ya, you can pick from the great ones!!
I briefly saw Earl Scuggs's name as one of the musicians in the band. You should definitely check him out.
Love, Love, Love Waylon Jennings! This was late in his career. I think at this point he was dealing with diabetes. Not positive. You should try Outlaw Bit!! Or...anything Waylon has done!! You know he didn't just do the song for The Dukes of Hazzard, he did all the narrating of the show too. Said it was the easiest money he ever made! Sometimes he would do the narrating on the bus & mail it in! lol Waylon, Hank jr & George Jones were always famous for doing goofy little things just to entertain. Pull their hats down, change lyrics or add to them or even make funny faces. Only Bocephus is left and I bet ole George knew nobody could fill their shoes! R.I.P to all the great country singers!! We're still singing em guys!! 🙏❤
That was always reminds me of our old band in the eighties. We'd all be doin' rehearsals with cigarette butts hanging off the E string every time. Lol
This is my life's anthem...
WJ 👑❤️
The baddest ass outlaw of them all
He ran around with Buddy Holly a lot. He's from Littlefield Texas.
waylon was the man, haha masculinity personified
I know a ton of country if you ever need recommendations, old and new, I'm a Texan so I know some things, haha
Billy Strings Dust in a Baggie your ears will melt with bluegrass flatpicking destruction
Thanks Larry, I will check it out 👍🏻
Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard “It’s All Going to Pot”, great lyrics. I could so easily fall for a steel guitar player
If you want to go back to the country singers before The Legends then you should listen to Marty Robbins. A few great ones are Cool, Clear Water or Big Iron.
“El Paso”. “My Woman My Woman My Wife” “ Cool Water” Devil Woman” “A White Sport Coat” “Big Iron” “The Hanging Tree” “Singing The Blues” “Don’t Worry” just to name a few 😊☮️♥️🤟🏼
Anywhere is the proper place to start with the Hoss. Waylon is the greatest country singer ever in my opinion. Check out "Bob Will is Still the King." Great song and about his influence and where his style originated from, solid Texas country.
You couldnt have started any better
He has a great catalog!! You really should check out his catalog!! Outlaw Bit ia Great song he does also!!
Waylon was in a band called The Crickets with Buddy Holly.
You might really enjoy Nashville Rebel off the Nashville Rebel movie score. I was 14 when it came out in 1966. Waylon was an up and coming artist at the time. He had toured with Buddy Holly and was scheduled to fly with him on the night of the crash but gave up his seat to either Richie Valens or The Big Bopper
True country outlaw legend!! Much love, Waylon!!
I grew up listening to him Merle haggard willie Nelson and I could keep going . Dam they were all so great.
Waylon was an American icon alongside Johnny Cash. You need to research him back to his days with Buddy , even before the fateful "winter dance party"
You should check out Hank Williams Jr. and Waylon Jennings "The Conversation."
That's a great classic one.
Merle Haggard - Tonight the bottle let me down
(Green Gables) is another favorite of mine that he did !
Never could toe the mark, or Rose in Paradise
Rest in peace, Hoss.
Waylon is the G.O.A.T. just pick anything from his live album,or honky tonk heroes album. Freedom to stay, Come with me, a couple of good ones
Shooter said in an interview that Waylon wrote it for Jessi.
Another great from right here on the south plains of Texas.
Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash "There Aint No Good Chain Gang" If you like Waylon Jennings, you should check out Hoyt Axton, several of his songs "Della and the Dealer", a real hoot, and "Wild Bull Rider" and "Evangelia"......cowboy music.
My favorite male country singer of all time!! Luckenbach Texas is probably my favorite and the Highwaymen I'd amazing...4 legends together on a stage!
He's so good❤️ Thanks, I'll always be back for more country 😊
Texas royalty right there.
Love me some Waylon.
His guitar is covered in black-and-white leather
you may really enjoy Waylon and Hank Jr. in "The Conversation". A song in which both discuss the life and times of Hank Sr.. The music vid. is AWSOME!! Legends all!!
If you love this one you'll love his song "Bob Wills is still the king"
I think this show was from 1984,' very shortly after Waylon had kicked a 21 year coke/amphetamine habit cold turkey. His wife says his cigarette smoking doubled/even tripled after that, at least for a few years (or until the bypass surgery). That song is his encore in this show, so he was no doubt craving some nicotine by then, hence forgetting to leave the cancer stick backstage.
As for your other question, Waylon's work is so incredibly varied that there's no "best place," to start. Many of my favorite Waylon songs are obscure numbers that nobody else would know.
LOL. Well, I guess that was no help!😁
What sort of songs would you like to hear from him?
Johnny Cash. Hurt. The music video is insanely well done. And the story of him making it is something I will never forget . Not everyone gets to say goodbye like that.
