Very nice guys. It's not just the experience you'll need to make these 14er climbs. It's the altitude. I went to Co. after years in the Marine Corp. (At sea level) It's not just about being physically conditioned. These guys are from Co. You should spend some time there before such an adventure. I moved on to Mt. but have great memories from 20 yrs. in the Co. Rockies. Great video.
You can be in the best shape, have the best balance, experience, confidence, etc. Regardless, while the odds are incalculable, trapsing across that path that way, the odds of death are high, as demonstrated by the comments at 14:54. May have been one of the people seen at 14:36. That being said, do I wish i were as skilled, adventurous, brave, etc. as those two? You bet.
9:36 I'm 54 and did my 1st 14er last September 4.. I built myself up to it over 6.months. No way would I be ready for something like that Knife's Edge, even after what I've already done.
Excellent video of your climb-and music choice. So you're gymnasts with great balance and endurance. Nice flips on the summit. Your video peppered with enthusiasm was captivating.
10:35 The rock can be very loose on those edges. Great video, but the Knife's Edge is no joke! You guys are risking your precious lives for nothing walking over thin rock like that.
Agreed. Shouldn't be setting the example of not maintaining 3 points of contact, just so you can look cool and casual in the face of extreme danger. Granted, the Knife Edge has the reputation of being more solid rock, but why tempt fate to look cool?
Double agreed, and I’m not sure what shoes they had on but not what I would wear to do some class 4/5 scrambling. The balance beam walk was a poor choice. One misstep and that’s it.
I know this is an old video, but I’m headed out there this summer from Pennsylvania and videos like this one get me so pumped up. Definitely not doing capital because I am not that experienced, but looking to do storm peak which is a smaller peak next to Longs and maybe do some of longs and stop at the keyhole. Don’t want to push myself into areas where I am not experienced in.
Great video!. Alot of 14ers videos tend to disappoint. You guys had perfect balance of vids, commentary, scenery, info, etc. I did Capitol solo. Wasn't intending to but my partner never showed up at the Lake so I pressed on. Don't listen to all the haters. Just cuz some overweight dude sitting on his couch in Florida thinks it's irresponsible (and for him it WOULD be), he is merely projecting his own abilities, experiences, personal fears and such upon you. You clearly are very experienced and seemed quite rational in your approach. They are the ignorant ones, NOT you. Keep on adventuring!
I'd start at 2-2:30 am or even earlier depending on how much hiking/climbing experience you have and the pace you'll be keeping. I usually do 2.5 miles per hour (before the climbing part starts) so this gives me plenty of time to stop in places to enjoy the views and capture some amazing shots.

Casually hiking the hardest and most dangerous 14er in Colorado… I took a leisurely stroll up Pikes Peak one time, but I’m not nearly skilled enough to conquer this one.
The age of social media has caused people to take chances beyond their ability, hence death and injury. Before SM we earned our chops. Start with the easy ones, gain confidence and skills and know when not to exceed your ability. I took the crash course and climbed maybe half and quickly advanced to technical climb like 5:10. I even hired a pro climber who taught me rope craft and all about hardware choices. I always climbed within my ability, and only fell once. Because I knew how to set pro I’m still here to talk about it. Interesting fact. Ice climbing is inherently easier than rock because you can choose your route. On rock the rock chooses for you.
ZSTuthill This was in early August. I highly recommend not going in October, as there will likely be snow by then, making it much more dangerous, and the weather is less stable. Early September is a great time, as the weather is usually amazing. Pick a good weather day and do your research on the peak and you’ll have an awesome time. Have fun, it’s a great peak!
Randy S A lot of people do. I did the first time I went up, but this time I didnt. Just depends on your experience, comfort with exposure, and risk tolerance. The knife ridge is very exposed, but it’s one of the easier sections of the ridge. I thought the upper face was much steeper, looser, and more dangerous climbing wise.
I think these guys had bad route-finding on the upper section of the peak. This can be done "no-hands" and on pretty good rock all the way to the top if you stay on the ridge crest longer before going across the face. That said, the knife edge gymnastics were impressive.

No. Not "preferably climbing". You NEED CLIMBING EXPERIENCE, and a lot of it, to do this, safely. Do not attempt this peak if you aren't a skilled climber, routefinder, in excellent shape, and have many other 14ers under your belt.
The news article I googled for his name mentioned that he slipped on an approach to K2 and fell into a crevasse. And he was in such a way that it was dangerous in the conditions that they waited a couple of days for recovery for the recovery team's safety - but he was triage assessed on the mountain. Excellent video. To walk the knife edge as you did is seriously dangerous. One wind gust or slip and you're dead. A little fear is what keeps us in check and alive. Nice job nonetheless with the rest.
Climbed Capitol on clear day in mid-August of '77, we did it in one shot, although we skirted K2 instead of going over it, and we got back to the car well after dark. On the way back right at dark, just as we were cutting underneath K2, it started snowing heavily, big flakes, the steep rocks got really slick, and my friend said, "I can't go on". I reminded him in no uncertain terms that he had no choice. Back then we had the whole mountain to ourselves, didn't run into anyone else.

What a beautiful video. Thank you for letting me experience it through your lens. Had it all...Commentary, Music, Aptly selected songs, Spectacular scenery and an amazing hiking / climbing experience.
The shoes the kid in jeans has are 5ten guide tennies made for technical approaches for rock climbing... you should think that track pants and running shoes are stupid.
I'm sure the blue jeans and tennis shoes were just for the camera, hiking outfit & shoe gear would have been necessary and mandatory. They did the standing backflips in the youtube clothing, but helmets would have been worn while actually climbing...and of course, the one guy wouldn''t have been able to survive with just tennis shoes up there.... Capitol Peak is a real brutal summit that you can die on VERY easily or get permanently maimed (wheel-chair rest of life). The standing back-flips would have been practiced over and over off camera at the campsite, I'm sure they rehearsed that ad-nausea and prepared their bodies for months for this climb.....it is no-joke and requires absolute complete fitness and youth. You won't see older climbers on this one. 35 and under for the most part. (not saying that older climbers can't do it, but each month older than 35 you are, you are risking more ). Study the route over and over and over from websites and please , for God's sake, if you don't have a good memory, climb with someone who does...you MUST remember the plan and route (by having a photographic memory).

You can actually walk across the knife edge if you're an experienced climber -- this does not advocate non-experienced climbers to try doing the same. Climb to the left of the knife edge so the wind doesn't knock you right off :P
@@sherfithasan One wrong step and it's over. And people make wrong steps all the time. No, thanks. You can kind of get a sense of their youthful cluelessness in how the guy talks about the "rescue, hopefully" and then just writes it off. "Yeah, a guy died, but what a great day."
Good video skills but poor decision making. Jeans, tennis shoes, appears one of you didn't have a helmet and the other only had one to mount a go pro! Further, a climber fell, presumably died, while you were on the peak, and you appear glib in recognizing that someone just died or was permanently injured, a few thousand feet from you on the same peak. Theres no "oh crap that could have been us", or even a "we feel bad for them and their family", reaction. Just, "eh, hey look, a helicopter, I guess someone died". Also, walking the knife edge like a tight rope is stupid, and unnecessarily risky. I get that parts of it are walkable, and you may have amazing balance and be able to walk the whole thing--kudos. But, it is really expensive, and dangerous, to run rescue missions for fallen climbers, and showing videos like this may encourage others to follow that cavalier lead, thereby increasing the likelihood of other people needing to be rescued....or worse. Finally, consider hiking boots and clothing. You're a climber, stop worrying how you'll look on Instagram. They make them for this purpose. What would you do if your sneaker cut open on a sharp rock?
Casey Dorn Ya, I was pretty surprised and disappointed that morning when my friend put on jeans and had no helmet. If I had known earlier I would’ve made him go back and get a helmet. I now bring extra helmets/gear in the car. Also- this isn’t my first rodeo. I finished all the 14ers when I was 12, and have done plenty other more technical/dangerous peaks since. This was just a casual fun day out. I do see your point on setting a bad example though- I’ll try and be better at that next time.
Adventures to the MAX, Casey is a complete jackass for making negative comments about your accent. Don't apologize to that fool, always a holy than thou hater out there. I keep my expectations low with so many shitty 14'er videos out there, yours was seriously one of the best out there, keep up the good work my friend. We all have our own way of getting to the places we go in life, as well as dealing with death, there is no wrong way. Your approach to climbing Capitol Peak was perfect and authentic, two dudes living life fully and having a spectacular time doing it. Hey Casey, and the two douches who liked your comment, ever hear of natural selection? You're probably the assholes going 20 mph up I-70 in a drizzle, in the fast lane, holding up traffic asking your GPS to save you. Surprised you didn't lecture the boys on the dangers of swimming in a mountain lake without a PFD and a helmet. I climbed Capital in 85 in Chuck Taylors with no hands, my pecker hanging out and no water bottle, and a bee stung my ear hole, all without health insurance~

It depends on the place, but there are definitely some sections where yes, if you slipped and didn’t catch yourself, it would be a LONG way down.

@@AdventuresToTheMax Thank-you for being honest. Now set a better example. People's lives may depend on it.
Respect for those who try it, but no thanks...I'm not quite that crazy yet!
that was really dumb walking across the kinfes edge
If you didn’t do it, you don’t get to criticize the brave men who did, coward.
@@arrenoflaedenuar6886 Anyone can have an opinion. And, what you call brave others may call stupid.
Especially for any man with a 2 month old child...
Seems like it’d be dumb not to
Young and clueless. “Look at me”. Pride, pride, pride. Wonder if the person who fell was thinking “totally worth it” on their way down.
You take unreasonable risks to make videos encouraging others to do the same. Don't add to the dangers to climbing this beautiful mountain.

Hiking in blue jeans is awful.
Thinking you need special pants for ‘hiking’ is hilarious
Peccato che facendo questo si crepa giornalmente ma l'importante è non parlarne altrimenti il turismo sacro ne risente $$$ :
