Joe, I love your colourful stories & your terrific sense of humour. Was hoping that this tour would come my way to Vancouver, BC, Canada, maybe another time. I saw you in Seattle in the 80's & you guys had that epic revolving stage. I'm a hard rock singer & I'd love to jam with you, lol. Rock On Super Man.......💜
Neal Schon is my guitar idol. I saved my lawn mowing money over 2 Summers and bought a Les Paul because that's what Neal Schon played. But, damn! What's with those frankenstein boots?
JWPrimetime Saw both bands when they were in their prime. Phenomenal back then. Wondering if they will sell out the stadiums such as Fenway and Wrigley....I doubt it. but hope.
Joe is very alert and sharp...has endured the rock star thing for very long now...like neil, he had success very early in his teens, neil at 15 and joe around 17...amazing these two guys together...both have been there, done that like few others
I just commented to my wife how sharp Joe was, remembering details about where they played and when he first saw Journey. I loved is Down N Outs stuff, especially Love Lies Bleeding, so much talent that he doesn't use in DL.
All of the guys in Def Leppard are very cool, down to earth people. Great band! Don't have any personal experience with the guys from Journey, but I do like their music!
Yea !!! can't wait see thr concert ,espescially journey ,and def leppard .I 'm ready ca'nt wait !!!! this one of my bucket list ..I am the journey fans n 80 's .lots of love Arnel penida ....
swiftyllc, steve perry he,s the one don't want to come back .to me its still journey group !please ,don't blame neal schon .blame steve perry !so just get over it ! go to the concert and enjoyed it !;D...
rock dog Neal Schon is the most overrated guitar player EVER!! Craig Chaquico from Jefferson Starship smokes him...and Journey sucks, ...now even more with the karaoke singer. Jonathan Cain is not a friendly guy either.
The Music City Martian! I don’t know if Neal is overrated but your absolutely right Craig was or is amazing, He is just as good as Neal, or Steve Lukather, I just wish Craig would get back out there or rejoin with Mickey Thomas
I wondered that about his shoes. Someone had commented that he wears lifters so he doesn't seem so small compared to his wife who is like 5'10 or close to 6ft. I saw an older pic of him and Carlos and Carlos is almost 5'9 but in the pic he seems like giant standing next to Neal. Neal is one of the finest guitarists in the world no matter what size he is.
Wow! Neal should've listened to joe talking about a bandmate needing time and they had respect in not replacing him right away after he passed away. Now that's a true family there not just a band!👍 Neal and Jon didn't give Steve Perry the time to figure out a major surgery and time to heal from it.. they also had no problem to replace Steve right away against Steve's wishes. It's sad, and they continue to keep trying to replicate Steve Perry's sound thru other lead singers.
p tricia they waited over a year. Steve Augeri joined Journey in 1998. Perry surgery and recovery was 1997. Get your facts straight b4 putting people on blast.
Donald Hardy I think he was referring to Steve Clark dying not Rick Allen losing his arm. Either way, Steve Perry was holding the band hostage. No doubt about that.
Donald you are wrong and Leanne has it right. Journey was such a HUGE band already they could have skipped the tour and still been a mega band in the eyes of fans. They should have waited for Perry.
vaskylark well, either way, I saw them with Def Leppard in Pittsburgh 6/2. Def Leppard was AMAZING and Journey SUCKED! Between Schon cramming pointless 3 minute guitar solos into every song and the sound engineer having NO CLUE what he was doing, they were just awful. Arnel, however, sounded GREAT, when you could hear him over the super-distorted guitar. What a mess. Sad, too.
Lol you mentioned Caddyshack! When I was about to meet Billy Squier few weeks back, the first thing I thought of saying was "Billy, Billy, Billy" . I decided not to as I wondered if he'd get it!
Dear Def Leppard please read this. Please play this set list! Now here's a set list: Lets Go, Die Hard The Hunter, Gods of War, Bringing on the Heartbreak, Rock Brigade, Sat Night/HighNDry, Paper Sun, Promises, Hysteria, Women, Ride Into The Sun, Rock Rock till u drop, Too Late for Love, Undefeated, Tonight, Wings of an Angel, Let it Go, I wanna touch you, Slang, Heaven Is, Have you ever needed someone so bad, Sugar, Photograph.....Encore = Mirror Mirror . Rock of Ages. If too long cut out - Heaven Is, Have you ever needed someone, I wanna touch you, Tonight and Slang. So that gives you like like 20 - 25 songs. never ever play a song where the lyrics say "Are you man enough to be my girl" ever again. Thank you, and by the way there is no free will, when will a celebrity say that.
I love this show!!! Search for Come on, Come on by Rock Candy. Also the singer (Jose Anes) had a band B4 Rockcandy called Sinful with Nuno Bettencourt on guitar B4 he was in Extreme! Search for Sinful demo album 1985. Enjoy!!!!
I just seen this, recovering from surgery so not much to do. Love both bands. Seen Def Leppard twice but if Steve Perry was back OMG..... on different side, Def Leppard did crossroads with Taylor swift and they were great together.
Those of us old enough to have been teenagers at the time when Def Leppard broke know that there are really only two great Def Leppard albums and one good one. The rest are money makers but they started out a really great real rock and roll band.
It's great bands like you guys who should be playing the Superbowl! I'll never understand how it's not happened. Justin T again...Please ...Emoticon whatever! Never wanted him to play the first time!
And I hear you right back! Along with your thoughts on JT....Other aspects of him don't equate respect. Goes to show people's taste in music these decades bite! Many greats to pick from for SBowl. So sad they ignore them! Happy for the Eagles by the way! What a game!
Silly dude, Neal had on clue that On Through The Night was DL's first album. He thought High N Dry was and the mention of OTTN flew right by him. No way he heard radio play of a video from it, didn't even sound like DL and had no singles. Bringing on the Heartbreak from HnD is what started to break them through with radio airplay.
Correction Neal to the comment "didn't sound like the band" ..You mean didn't sound like Steve Perry. 😉Steve Perry was and always will be Journeys true voice!
Very cool interview! Didn't catch them for this Tour, Fenway Park in Boston, MA was not on the best places list to catch a great rock show like this! Just my opinion! Saw them in 2006 in Mansfield, MA, now Xfinity Center! Prefer the Amphitheater format better, was a great Concert!
I prefer the physical albums (one of the questions they ask towards the end). Streaming is nice in the sense that you can always have your favorite music with you but nothing beats the physical albums.
It's true about an album's running order of songs being important. I'm convinced, it's why Judas Priest's Point of Entry kind of flopped and considered poppy coming after British Steel, while it's really just as heavy if not even more lively stylistically but a running order of songs is always the listener's first impression.
16:22 NEAL SCHON (Lead guitarist of Journey) JOE ELLIOTT (Lead Singer of Def Leppard) EDDIE TRUNK (TRUNK NATION HOST), all caps, double font size, please.
Musiclover101 I Love Rock and Roll I just saw them a week ago...it was 4th time seeing Def Leppard and they were flipping awesome,it was 2nd time to see Journey and they were ok but I did like them with Steve Perry, the new singer is good but had trouble understanding sometimes what he was singing,I think the guitars kind of overpowered his singing
I love def leppard but they did play women they played rock on hey kid rock on I wanted too here women listen to this young group tempt they do women song and were spot on
Oh please, Leppard should do a tour every other year or so that will apeal to the die hards fans, and play all the non hits and deep tracks never played live. Aside from Ded Flatbirds set in Vegas, they have been neglecting the hard rockers and metalheads forever. It's been about the majority hit singles audience forever
Neals great on twitter, have a joke with him & he blocks you :D he's one of my biggest influences & I rate him so highly has a musician, but he wants to grow the fuck up & get a sense of humor.
Here's the truth about The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; NOBODY FUCKING CARES!! The HoF is a shit show. Excellent interview, can't believe I listened to the whole thing...
The crowd isn't gonna collectively get up and walk out if god forbid they play a couple deep tracks from High N' Dry or On Thru The Night or Slang or what have you. It's a cop-out, bullshit excuse he gave and has been giving for 2 decades now. As a true music fan he should appreciate the idea that long time fans still care and would appreciate the effort of mixing it up a bit. Do small club tour with deep cut requests..it's not that difficult--Weird Al is doing it ffs, why can't you guys?
I've been to Cleveland's rock and roll Hall of Fame and it's a joke! They've inducted Aretha Franklin and Tupac, but not def leopard and foreigner?! The place is overrated and in my opinion should be on sunset strip in California.
Clifford Hritz yeah one of only five bands to sell over 10 million copies of 2 different albums in the US, one of those being hysteria, yeah means nothing. One in five in history, means nothing. Most of their hits and most popular song comes off of hysteria, means nothing, still a very successful album to this day, means nothing. They continue to tour the world every year and play to millions, means nothing. One of the most successful rockbands in history, means nothing.
I could rant about it all day, but Joe's stance on playing the same greatest hits setlist show after show, tour after tour, sucks! As a knowledgeable music lover, he is a hypocrite. Despite his tired old line of saying he wants to hear the Rolling Stones play Brown Sugar and their other hits in concert, he would die to hear something he's never heard before. He's already requested that Journey play Chain Reaction, a song I personally (and I assume most people) have never heard of. On top of that, he has a radio show where he plays mostly deep cuts. He has a side project, the Down-N-Outs that started out playing nothing but Mott the Hoople deep cuts. When you boil it down, he wants to cater to the masses aka the people that only care about hearing the hits. You know, the same people that scoffed at Slang and have no idea that the Songs from the Sparkle Lounge and Def Leppard albums even exist. He's right, those people make up the majority of the ticket holders, but say it like it is and admit that it's about the money. On a side note, it seems like every time Eddie interviews Joe there is talk about the setlist and a small, but hopeless plea for Leppard to play something that isn't expected. Keep trying, Eddie. Maybe instead ask for them to actually do a headlining tour and play 3 hours. Springsteen does it, Guns and Roses do it, Leppard could to. But Joe would shoot that down too so probably should just save your breath. At least we've got the Viva Hysteria stuff, I guess.
I respect Joe for only wanting to play the hits for the fans. People pay good money now a days to go to a concert 100+ not including parking and and food and beverages. So thank you Joe!!
I’d love a Leppard show with nothing but rarities, but I understand that isn’t realistic. Keep the big hits in, absolutely, I understand they are vital to keeping the casual fans coming back. But, I want to be surprised. I have been to 12 or 13 Leppard shows since 1999 and the last time I remember being surprised was 1999 or 2000 when they played Excitable. Swap some of the tired numbers out...I PROMISE there will be no riot if Armageddon It isn’t played. Or Two Steps Behind. Or Animal. And so on. I believe it’s this interview where Joe explains why the set is the same city to city. Thanks to the bands refusal to improvise, I’ve actually looked at their set list online early in the tour and decided not to go because it was essentially unchanged from previous tours. Not only do the set lists not change, but they have choreographed their show down to a T. And good lord I hope the production has changed from the last several tours. Take a look at Metallica’s setlist night to night. It varies, they still manage to play the hits, they pull out some deeper cuts, and they seem to be selling out concerts no problem. Well, whatever. I hate to even call myself a die hard fan anymore because Joe often shits on fans like me who voice anything critical. All I want is to go to his concert and not feel total deja vu.
I’d love to hear Viva Pyromania! or something like that (or maybe High N’ Dry.. Both in one residency? Or hell, I’d be surprised if they would even perform the entire Slang record live. That would be something I’d pay to see in concert because I love that record. So underrated). Joe has always said in the past that he would love to play “Coming Under Fire” live. He even said it’s one of his favorite DL songs of all time in a video that was posted on the amazon Facebook page several days ago. He also mentioned that his favorite songs are usually the deeper cuts.
I could be wrong, but I think Joe even said once or twice that a Viva Pyromania show with High N Dry as the opening set could happen. I regrettably missed Viva Hysteria, but I would NOT miss that show! Agreed about Slang...every time I put that disc on I am blown away at how great it is and it continues to improve.
I wouldn't waste my time or money to see neither of these week ass sounding bands! They are both washed up in my opinion. Especially Journey! Yes they were great 30 years ago. But to see and hear them live in the present day is disappointing. They simply don't play the older songs with the same sound and energy. And it's a huge let-down. I don't know what it is. Maybe it's because neither band has the same musicians as the original recordings. And that changes the chemistry. And then the songs morph into something else they never were intended to be. And it's disappointing.
freddy ferrillo No one's forcing you to do.. it's for the new generation of fans anyway, it's for us who don't know about Journey, though I heard some of their songs before, I didn't really have the interest to dig more about it, not until a decade ago, old fans who think like they owned the band and wouldn't accept the truth of changes.... We are the younger generation, so why can't you let us enjoy it in our time...old fans should accept or shut up if they don't like changes...
Anne L It's for the new generation of fans? Is that what you said? That's a shallow and selfish statement! You imply like the older generation isn't entitled to the bands that we grew up on. These are the bands that the older generation made famous. We went to shows, and actually would buy the records and tapes. Lots of them. We stuck by these bands back in the day. Why? Because they were really great live. They reproduced the albums when they would play live. But nowadays these older bands all sound like they are playing different songs. They are not duplicating the songs to the way they recorded them on the albums so long ago. They phrase the words different, play the leads different and even change the key of the songs. And a lot of the times the singer can't hit the notes. It's a disappointment to me. That's my opinion and entitled to it. Def Leppard and Journey used to be way better. Journey isn't journey without Steve Perry. Do you know who he is? The fact is, your all getting ripped off but you just don't know it. So I guess that is good for you. But as for me, I wouldn't go see them live. Even if I could get in for free! Why? Because I never forgot how perfect and energetic they once sounded live. And to see them ruin their own songs is pathetic! Period. But it doesn't bother you because you didn't witness how much better they once were. I did. So I understand, it's not your fault.
freddy ferrillo Well, Arnel as the frontman of Journey is very much accepted by old and real fans of the band, but for those who cannot accept him, those old and bitter but unreal fans of the band... they don't need to say this and that, they just need to shut up if they don't like Arnel.. but they keep on with bitterness that Arnel has nothing to do with...
freddy ferrillo I started to learn about SP because of Arnel...in your old time, why can't you understand that..! If you don't like him, no one's forcing you and don't force into me what is about SP, we knew who he is, but you have to understand that SP cannot sing for the younger generation anymore like he used to.. when he was active in your time, not in our time, why can't you understand that we have to enjoy what we have right now...
freddy ferrillo There are so many open-minded Perry fans that have accepted Arnel, even Perry himself..! They keep growing..while you, haha good for you to stay like that all your life..!
right on neal! being sober', when you older is one of the best things to do for your healths sake. keep on rocking!
I listen to Journey and Def Leppard ALL the time. And so do my neighbors, whether they like it or not!
Good one!
I love the 80's so good
This would have been a dream tour...in '87...
Joe looks fantastic! Can't wait to see him on tour this year! Met him twice last year- very briefly - all of the Leps are very sweet gentlemen.
Rock On Super Man.......💜
Love ❤️ joe Elliott my boo!
Schon is my favourite guitarist. His fingers fly! I've always loved watching him as opposed to just listening to him.
His wife is beautiful!
Neal Schon is my guitar idol. I saved my lawn mowing money over 2 Summers and bought a Les Paul because that's what Neal Schon played. But, damn! What's with those frankenstein boots?

Allen Reid Great show!
Man, Joe Elliott seems like an incredibly down to earth guy.
I agree.
Not only is he down to earth, but he's seems to know quite a bit about music in general. I mean, the guy knows "Chain Reaction!"
He's like all us northern english guys. We call a spade a spade. ! :) ie no bullshit.
All of the guys in Def Leppard are very cool, down to earth people. Great band!
Don't have any personal experience with the guys from Journey, but I do like their music!

Joe continues to look AMAZING especially for someone his age. You put us all to shame JOE!!!! WE are all jealous here!!!
Funny 1 year later after the RRHOF and Neil and Steve never had that cup of coffee ☕️.... never will either ....😞
thanks for stepping up for the Struts Joe! you are a legend.
Old Def Leppard is the best. The Rock Brigade and Let it Go. Hope these guys come to the Buffalo area.

Wondering if Arnel from JOURNEY got his voice back. He's was incredible the first years .
I saw them with him last summer and he sounded great!
He's got a better chance of getting his voice back than Schon has a chance of getting his face back.
Arnel just need a few months off to get his voices back
And Schon needs a few months of operations to get his chins back.
Saw Arnel this week and he sounded great.
Silly dude, Neal had on clue that On Through The Night was DL's first album. He thought High N Dry was and the mention of OTTN flew right by him. My thought exactly. Bet Joe just wanted to say wtf
Neal is sporting the biggest boots in the world.
Correction Neal to the comment "didn't sound like the band" ..You mean didn't sound like Steve Perry. 😉Steve Perry was and always will be Journeys true voice!
p tricia now you are making good comments!!!!
Pat Travers Blew both Journey and def Leppard of the stage back then
Neal kind of reminds me of actors Kevin Dobson of TV's Kojak fame and James Caan.
I agree he does
Yayay my boyfriend Joe Elliott i love 💖 Joe Elliott 🥰🥰🥰
id love to see few rare songs from both mostly lep
cool interview!
Arnel is good! Game changer now that Steve P. Is back!!!

High and Dry Def Leppard's best album by a mile. Pyromania was great after that not my thing.
Every body listen to the young band tempt the do def leppard women song
Neal's boots. Would hate to get kicked or stepped on with those.
I can see how the boys from Journey dislike Neal so much.... he seems like hard work. No wonder Perry left.
hes a douche, I have friends that know him, and, worked with him.. douche
Very true. He's a complete asshole and treats his fans like shit.
He's also the reason why Journey still exists, and is instrumental in keeping the sound of the band alive as they cycle through singers
@@TA-to7kt Everytime I've had the chance to speak with him or even been in his presence, he's been as nice as can be. Love him and Gregg Rolie.
@@TA-to7kt He's very appreciative of the fans.
I close my eyes and Eddie Trunk sounds just like Jimmy Kimmel.
Whats with Neals Forrest Gump boots?
Robert Lynn Maybe he's short .
Robert Lynn LMAO 😂😂😂
Richard Herzog he is short
Robert Lynn he started wearing them goofy ass boots when he was in Bad English.
Scott Davidson He should rename the group Bad Boots.
I wonder if Cain is playing this tour or if he and the wife will stay and minister at the White House.
Journey really needs to dump him and get Rolie back
Uncle Bozo maybe but Gregg is 127 years old.
He did play and slowed the feel of their set, you don't bring a paino sharing a bill with Def Leopard.
Could those mic's be anymore in their faces.

Rich at the Metal Asylum right. That's how the business works. It is their business so they do what they do to keep there business going.
You don't sell out 20k arena's by playing deep cuts and rare tracks. They did play a lot more deep cuts at the Vegas residence in 2019.
@@robertblay9179 that was a one time deal only in Vegas. Not nearly enough especially when you have been touring for 30 years.

Why don't Journey get Hugo to come in and do vocals?

Why is Neal wearing clown shoes? lol
Bring back Steve Perry then that will be The "Real Journey". If not, forget it. Bad lead singer. Def all the way...
I love Journey, but I'm really hoping for them to implode.
Edward Brandenburg Never! Neal needs that income for alimony payments to his MANY ex wives, Barbie wife and plastic surgery.😂
How ironic is it that in 2018 Joe has Kurt Cobain's haircut?
TEMPT THE BAND DOES WOMEN THEY WERE SPOT ON !!!!
Ophelia Darkling, I totally agree. House of Blues is an awesome small venue for a great intimate concert.
Ophelia Darkling, without Steve, there are no early songs. Steve made Def Leppard.
FYI the Struts are over produced pop garbage. they have nothing to do with 70's rock.
I've been to Cleveland's rock and roll Hall of Fame and it's a joke! They've inducted Aretha Franklin and Tupac, but not def leopard and foreigner?! The place is overrated and in my opinion should be on sunset strip in California.
Why would ya want to interrupt your rock ....legend
.... And why is this guy so ignorant??,,
Saxon and journey would be way better
Krokus and Journey would make more sense, although Saxon is a great band. Saxon would be great with Judas Priest, Iron Maiden or Accept.
sorry, joe. DF lost it's way after Pyromania.
Clifford Hritz tell that to the millions who bought Hysteria
lots of shitty bands and acts have sold millions. means nothing.
One of the most successful rockbands in history, means nothing.
a lot of people like crap. how many people like something isn't a barometer of quality.
Clifford Hritz you clearly don’t know what you’re talking about
I could rant about it all day, but Joe's stance on playing the same greatest hits setlist show after show, tour after tour, sucks!
Also if you don’t know Chain Reaction you don’t know Journey!

No one's forcing you to do.. it's for the new generation of fans anyway, it's for us who don't know about Journey, though I heard some of their songs before, I didn't really have the interest to dig more about it, not until a decade ago, old fans who think like they owned the band and wouldn't accept the truth of changes.... We are the younger generation, so why can't you let us enjoy it in our time...old fans should accept or shut up if they don't like changes...

It's for the new generation of fans?

Well, Arnel as the frontman of Journey is very much accepted by old and real fans of the band, but for those who cannot accept him, those old and bitter but unreal fans of the band... they don't need to say this and that, they just need to shut up if they don't like Arnel.. but they keep on with bitterness that Arnel has nothing to do with...
freddy ferrillo
I started to learn about SP because of Arnel...in your old time, why can't you understand that..! If you don't like him, no one's forcing you and don't force into me what is about SP, we knew who he is, but you have to understand that SP cannot sing for the younger generation anymore like he used to.. when he was active in your time, not in our time, why can't you understand that we have to enjoy what we have right now...

There are so many open-minded Perry fans that have accepted Arnel, even Perry himself..! They keep growing..while you, haha good for you to stay like that all your life..!
