    Here is ChatGPT definition:
The phrase "going balls to the wall" is a colloquial expression originating from aviation and engineering. Its literal meaning comes from the throttle controls of older aircraft, where the throttle levers had spherical knobs on the end, colloquially referred to as "balls." When a pilot pushed the throttle forward, or "to the wall," it meant they were applying maximum power for takeoff or acceleration. So, "going balls to the wall" figuratively means going all out or giving maximum effort.

When Jeff mentioned steam engines, it reminded me of the ancient train steam engines where they have a steam valve governor. It is valve attached to a spinning shaft with 2 cantilever balls attached. It governs the speed of the engine. When the balls fly out to their max. displacement, it sets the max speed of the engine, hence the phrase "Balls to the wall" (releases steam pressure at max rpm so the engine doesn't break). I am no spinning balls expert, so maybe someone that is more knowledgeable can comment.
Edit: I think what Elon is saying is... pedal to the metal time, but we are not going to break the engine doing this.

Well done, clarity is important and it appeared the earlier messaging seemed to imply that the low cost car is gone and that's utter m nonsense for the reasons I started yesterday but a few more are the fact the low cost model is actually ideal just from a size perspective in many old & third world cities with narrow roads. These vastly dominate the wide modern roads of Western highway & city networks.
A model 3 got us close but it's not compact enough, the reason you'll want discrete ownership is much greater in these cities which are unlikely to have Tesla build robotaxi depots to manage the fleet locally to expensive, better to offload management to the owners. A non-centralized deployment model as well actually will provide some benefits in terms of availability of the robo taxis as if they are discreetly owned. Their ownership is going to be more likely to be distributed throughout the city or town. Meaning that a call for a vehicle at any given point in the town is going to have a high probability of being proximal to a vehicle which is either at an owner's residence and waiting for a call or it's on some road in transit in the vicinity of an owner's location and so what you'll get is the ability for near immediate dispatch to any given point in the city. Whereas if you have a centralized Depot, it's more likely that the bulk of the vehicles will be at or near the Depot as opposed to highly distributed across the city as that would be more efficient.. It's also possible that this inefficiency could be mitigated against by deploying vehicles to specific locations in the city and then have them park to await being called by a customer in fact where they park can be predicted based on past call history of the aggregate customer base.
But I digress. Yes, there will be a dedicated robotaxi and yes there will be a version of that same vehicle with pedals and a wheel which will be much more efficiently distributed into third world and Old world cities of where they have an advantage in terms of minimize cost of management as compared to fleet ownership.

Balls to the wall is a maritime expression. Each engine has a throttle that the pilot pushes forward or backwards, depending on how he wants each prop to operate. Each throttle has a large “pool ball” on the top of the throttle to make it easy to maneuver them. Balls to the wall means push all engines to full throttle which is forward and against the wall of the bridge.

My guess is that Tesl has started pulling model Y's that have ended their lease and are converting these model Y's into robotaxi's available for immediate release to cities all over. Prob a partnership will be announced with a few cities (San Fran, Vegas etc).
Let's stay on the lookout for used Model Y's stacking up leading up to the robotaxi reveal. Vegas is my guess.

Hi Herbert, greetings from the U.K. At the moment Tesla does not have a factory to make the Model 2, from my understanding, there is no capacity at Berlin, Texas or Fremont. I think Model 2 will happen, it will be on a 48v LV platform, it will have a unique production method, it will most likely have LFMP HV battery technology. All these are cutting edge technologies. In Therani time, the Model Y continues to be the best selling car here in Europe, and will likely be updated (like Model 3) later this year. Tesla has lots to be doing, it has the best engineers,it has cash in the bank.

No one has addressed how regulators would approve a driverless car with a four-foot blind spot of the road in front of its bumper-namely, the Tesla models without USS. Maybe if it never backs into a parking spot or parallel parks?
I think one option is that it gets approved, but then safety regulations are phased in, stating that a driverless car must have full 360-degree awareness and possibly even visibility under the car (as in the case of Cruise, which unknowingly dragged a person 20 feet).

1:11:11 Elon said that they're not compute 'constrained' - he didn't say they had 'enough' compute. Their need for more compute will rise with the fleet and the amount data being received; OR - it could mean that they are now bandwidth constrained.

But haven't we trashed that enough now?
I would like to be updated on FSD now at each release. Not only how human-like it drives, and such stories.
I want to know, perhaps in a graphical form, what it can't do yet. With progress and backlashes release by release.
To me it seems as if FSD now can fix item after item, pretty regular and dependently. If that's confirmed, we should soon get a timeline to RoboTaxi ready FSD.

The reason Elon refers to Gen 3 as "RoboTaxi" is because it is the first vehicle configuration (platform) with all the redundancy requirements for safe UNSUPERVISED autonomous use! Models S3XY cannot be used UNSUPERVISED without the steering system first being upgraded as these rely on a single motor and belt drive that is known to fail in operation. This has been addressed with the steer by wire system introduced in CyberTruck which replaces the mechanical linkage with a second electric motor and drive belt thus providing redundancy under system control. Model S3XY could be modified by upgrading the steering system to use the same TWO motor and belt system as CyberTruck however there is a clear cost advantage in simply building dedicated RoboTaxis on the Gen 3 platform and reselling the S3XY's to new owners...
