Obviously, it seems like whistle-blowing and discrimination reporting procedures need to be crystallised and further protections need to be given to the people raising concerns as well as training given to managers on how to deal with such situations so that those raising concerns are not ousted. However, it was extremely disappointing to see Meredith focus on the systemic racism and sexism argument here. Stating that only a certain percentage of black individuals are full time workers and a larger percentage are contracted workers as evidence of systemic racism within Google is absurd, active discrimination may be one of the variables causing this discrepancy or perhaps even the main variable but you can't know that until you do a multi-variate analysis to control for different factors that may account for this difference. It may be that black individuals prefer the flexibility of contract work or that Google premises that employ the workers more directly exist within non-black areas of the country. The systemic ism argument is unevidenced.
