Sabaton has amassed an impressive pile of Gold and Platinum awards: six Gold and two Platinum albums - quadruple Platinum in the case of 2012's Carolus Rex - six Top 5 and five Top 10 albums internationally, a Grammy Award nomination as Hard Rock/Metal Band, five Metal Hammer/Golden Gods.

This song is about an attack on the Vatican in 1527. Sabaton sings about war, and the heros who stand for their country or cause against overwhelming odds. Just about every song is based on an historical event. They actually have a separate RUclips channel that talks about the history behind each of their songs. An interesting side note is that the drummer, who we didn't see much of in this song, Hannes van Dahl, is married to Nightwish's lead singer Floor Jansen. They just announced the birth of their second child, a little girl named Lucy, a few days ago. Two songs of Sabaton's that I would suggest are 1916 (a cover of the original by Motorhead) and Christmas Truce.

For both 1916 and Christmas Truce, the official music video would be the best version for a reaction.

Sabaton has their own history channel with an actual historian .. they are so good .. and they have a lot of anthems in their repetoar .. Sabaton has a following in US .. they where on tour in US last October and it was EPIC ( they had a very good turnout .. family friendly many kids first concert … coolest history teachers ever 😉).. music videos you have good suggestion but to hell and back and 82 :nd all the way might be cool because it’s from American history .. and the official live version for “Lion of the north” from Gothenburg ( it’s in Swedish .. but I enjoy that one immensely they just have so much fun on stage)
Edit: oh forgot you should check “no bullets fly” animated version and “Nightwiches” long animated version

Great reaction to an epic song. I need more Sabaton to gear up for the tribulations. I ran across a Sabaton tribute to Audie Murphy called To Hell and Back, the most decorated American in WWII and he paid for it by having to overcome ptsd and drug issues. November 11 is soon, and it is THE Veteran's Day song. To Hell and Back was his autobiographical film

Great reaction. Great song. Great group. As Victoria stated below, they sing about history. The Last Stand is about the sack of Rome in 1527. "The 189 in the Service of Heaven" who "gave their lives on the steps to Heaven" refers to the Swiss Guard protecting "The Holy See" (the pope) during the battle.

This song is about The Sack of Rome in 1527 when The Swiss Guards protected the Pope by sacrificing their own life so he could escape from the enemy..Sabaton is from Sweden and nearly all of their songs are about war's, heroes and historical events in human story both past and recent ..
I recommend...Primo Victoria, Soldier Of Heaven , No Bullets Fly & Lady Of The Dark..is a few of their most famous songs

All of their songs are about war history from around the world and from all sides of the war. One of my favorites is a less reacted Shiroyama. Its about a turning point in Japanese history, the Battle of Shiroyama took place in 1877 and marked the end of Japan’s most famous warriors (the samurai). The Satsuma Rebellion was the very last revolt of the Samurai against the imperial government of emperor Meiji.

    great reaction, more please.
Sabaton is a Swedish band with a loooong list of history based music, not Christian but they certainly show respect for the sacrifices made.
Sabaton also has an award winning history channel that gives background to over 100 if their songs (not music award, academic, aimed at education of the public) .
Sabaton videos are often have dedictions and/or messages at the end, perhaps not always but... watching to the very end is frequently well worth it.
Animated STORY videos (short Animated history lessons with music videos in them)
    No bullets fly
    Night witches
    Lady of the dark
    Red baron
    first soldier
    Epic ORIGINAL videos.
Bismark, about the sinking of the ship
Christmas truce, about the spontaneous truce in some parts of the western front during Christmas 1914
40:1, about polish soldiers, badly outnumbered (just under 750 in all) facing 42 000 germans, they where BADLY outgunned desperately defending against the German invasion 1939 (with odds actually close to 55:1 they held for 3 DAYS when ammunition and supplies ran out.
Uprising, the Warsaw Uprising against the nazi germans during 1944.
To hell and back, they tell the story of Audie Murphy (highly decorated) and his struggle AFTER the war, so about PTSD and drug addiction that returning soldiers can face.
Fields of verdun, the 300+ day long battle fought there.
Price of a mile, about the battle of Passchendaele
Screaming Eagles, about the battle of the bulge
    Live performances
    40:1 from poland
    Uprising from poland
En livstid I krig live from Göteborg Sweden (in Swedish but there are subtitles) , very heavy again, about thoughts of a young man going to war.
    Two covers that are good
    Defence of Moscow, self explained
1916 about the devastating battle of the somme in ww1, casualties topped 1 milion if you count both sides, all for 6 miles of ground,
these are just some, there are plenty more.

I recomend their animated stories, Lady of the dark or No bullets fly. Sabaton is not glorifying war but tells the stories from the soldiers point of view. 1916 and Bismarck are also two of their videos you should not miss. If you do the live version of "En livstid i krig" do not miss to enable subtitles, it is a very powerful song.

189 guards of the Swiss guard were protecting the pope in historical event called "Sacking of Rome" who protected Pope and gave him secure passage out. For their sacrifices, Papacy's guards are still hired from Swiss only. The only way "I want to protect pope" is to be born in Switzerland..

Sabaton is one of Europes most popular Powermetal bands (even if the band themselves say they hace their own genre - "History Metal"
They always , as you said , singing about history events ..and they have their own History Channel -Sabaton History Channel - Where an English historian tells the story about what Sabaton sings about. They have been called "Cheesy" by many harder Metal bands. Probably as their music is Metal in a "Popish and melodic way"
They are excellent both live as well as their musicvideos. For other majestic Sabaton songs, please check out " Christmas Truce" , "Bismarck", "Race to the sea" or "Seven Pillars of Wisdom"
...As for an amazing liveshow. Check out some songs from their allready legendary concert in Woodstock Poland with more than 600 000 fans in the crowd!!! (Songs like "Ghost Division" and "Uprising". Sabaton and Amaranthe are my two favourite bands ...since I love melodious /Pop Metal

The song is not Chritian. to the story they tell is about them. The song is about the Stand of the Swiss Guard during the 1527 sack of Rome.
During the War of the League of Cognac, a Habsburg army composed of troops from the Holy Roman Empire, Spain, and Lutheran mercenaries under the command of the Constable of France, the Duc de Bourbon attacked the supposed inviolable capital of Christendom, Rome.
With only 5000 civilians rising to the defense, the Habsburg army ran wild through the holy city. As the sack took place, Kaspar Röist, commander of Pope Clement’s elite bodyguard of Swiss Guards deployed his men to cover Clement’s escape along the Passetto di Borgo.
Alongside the remnants of the city garrison, 189 Swiss Guards made their stand in a cemetery inside the Vatican. Röist was killed during the fighting but the Swiss Gaurd fought on, covering the retreat of the Pope’s entourage along the Passetto di Borgo to the Castel Sant'Angelo.

Since Sabaton songs are all about true, historic military subjects, it will not ruin your reactions if you just read their description b4 you play the video...for context to the song...bc lyrics only tell you so much...and they tell such amazing stories! And, you'll see, most of their songs are very anthemic! A Swedish band, Sabaton is huge in Europe...but just breaking big in the US. Our system of commercial radio play is selective of money over talent.
I vote next, for the *animated story video* for song, Night Witches! (Girl power!) OR... you can see the original video for Christmas Truce... thats the song that blew Sabaton up to be headliners!

edit 2: now that you've listened to the original, you should go back and compare Dan's cover of it (you reacted to it a little while ago). I like both versions. 😜

I would like to add, since idk if anyone has said it, but the song isn't really a Christiaan song, it's about when the Swiss guard stood and protected the Pope during the 1577 Sack of Rome, so naturally, it has some Christian elements, but it's a historical song first and foremost

Trying to explain this song would take a loong time, shortly its about a time 1527 when france decided to make war on Rome and the pope. Thing is they didnt wanna go there themselves so they hired mercenaries. And at one point they lost control of them and the lord who was still in control just let the mercenaries loose in Rome, the popes guards, was i think 125 men and the mercenaries was more than 1000 and they started to plunder and rape, the usual masculine pastamimes. So to wrap this shit up, look at the Sabaton history episode about this, is a fantastic video, like all their songs. They have more than 200 videos about history and songs.

My take is, Sabaton has some epic songs, as well as some songs that will hit you in the feels.
Here is my Top 5 epic songs:
    1) The Defense of Moscow
    2) Bismarck
    3) Primo Victoria
    4) Night Witches (Animated Story Video)
    5) 40:1
    Honorable Mention: Ghost Division
Here is my Top 5 "Hit you in the feels" songs:
    1) Prisoner #4589
    2) No Bullets Fly (Animated Story Video)
    3) Final Solution
    4) Christmas Truce
    5) 1916 (Cover; original by Motorhead)
As for why groups like Sabaton aren't heard in the States: It has to do with radio play and being foriegn bands. Much of the music I've found since 2013 has never been heard outside of RUclips, such as Sabaton, Nightwish, Unleash the Archers, Bloodywood, even Amaranthe. And this is despite the fact that labels like Napalm Records and Nuclear Blast Records are some of the most well-known labels out there. In my humble opinion, both Napalm and Nuclear Blast are better than almost every single US record label, because they would rather have quality over quantity -- a lesson that US record labels sadly has never learned. Good bands sell, and sell themselves. It's why US music has largely been lackluster since the late 1990s, and even Nu-Metal bands like Linkin Park, Five Finger Death Punch, and System of a Down have suffered from this "quantity over quality" problem US record labels seem to perpetuate.
But yes, point is, it's because of US labels and basically selling mediocre BS that is why bands like Sabaton weren't heard until the advent of the internet and RUclips.

You did Dan's version of this song ( ruclips.net/video/bJG-cuHV4cw/видео.html ).
Dan did a great job of covering this very sound and presentation.
As far as Sabaton is concerned, they have been well-celebrated in the U.S. for quite some time.
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sabaton_(band)
Actually, I knew about THIS band (in the U.S.) long before I heard of some of the others. My oldest daughter was born in January 1968. She (a wonderful singer and musician, herself) got interested in metal, even before my next child down (born in February 1970) did. She loved Sabaton, and Power Metal, whereas Jim was more likely to go with bands like Metallica, which he STILL loves like crazy. He used to also binge on Stryper and Petra, and a ton of other metal music. On the other hand, he also loves plenty of other music (as do all my kids...it's the way I grew up, and the way I raised them). Music is SO important.
I've always like Sabaton, also, because of their musicality, which is one reason why I love Dan's metal stuff. He never sings something that doesn't produce really good MUSIC in my head, whereas with some bands, when I hear THEIR earlier versions, the sounds just make a MESS in my head, because I hear very close harmonics that can rather KILL my brain, if they are messed up, at all. Plus, I'm a HUGE lover of music with a message. I really do NOT like inane music that either doesn't have a message at all, or it carries the WRONG message--especially to young teens.
Anyway...I don't think that it's a fact that these songs were ever hidden in the U.S. It's just that we have such a ton of OTHER music that gets generally-preferred by kids, since the 80s, basically, who would rather just listen to lame stuff that isn't trying to make them THINK.

Rock and metal are popular in Europe not so much in the States. So bands like Sabaton wait till they've released 2 albums to do a US tour. A few days ago I finally saw a band that's hasn't been in the States for 6 years.

The Sack of Rome, or 'Sacco di Roma', by the leaderless troops of Charles V on 6 May 1527 ended in a bloodbath that also cost the lives of 147 Swiss guards.

the most interesting thing is, that the swiss guard still uses the Helbard..... And the Sig Sauer P229, The HK MP7 and the HK MP5 in some versions.....BUT they still wear the 16th century Uniform.... (Ok, sometimes black suits, but it wont fit the song)

React to En livstid i krig (A lifetime at war) . Be sure to put on the english lyrics). 1597-1709 Sweden were one of the great powers of Europe. The song is about a war between j(1618-1648)

I guess you got some suggestions for now, but I hope you'll react to the songs "Christmas Truce" and "No Bullets Fly" (animated STORY version) closer to Christmas. Just for the mood.
Other song I could mention is the Song and Album "Carolus Rex" that exist in both english and swedish version.

Allow me to make general comments on what you voiced during your reaction, which by the way, I enjoyed a lot. As a 61-year-old South African music lover, we have the same kind of problem. Our radio stations play mostly American music, which for the most part, I think is crap. I discovered an entire new world of music through RUclips and Spotify during the last decade and I think that mainland Europe and even the East (Asia) has surpassed the USA and the UK with listenable rock and metal music. The ONLY US band I kinda can stomach is System of a Down and their spin-off band, Daron Malakianb and Scars on Broadway. There are dozens of bands from Norway (Serenia, Tristania, Dimmu Borgir), Sweden (Sabaton, Therion), Finland (Nightwish, Korpiklaani, Ensiferum, Apocalyptica), Netherlands (Ayreon, Epica, Within Temptation, The Gentle Storm), Italy (Nanowar of Steel), Germany (Rammstein, Van Canto, The Scorpions, Helloween, Blind Guardian, Powerwolf, Leaves Eyes), Ukraine (Jinjer, Ignea), Japan (Lovebites, BabyMetal, Ningen Isu, Bridear, Hanabie, Galneryus), Indonesia (Voice of Baceprot), Australia (Toehider). By the way, Sabaton is all about historical events and warfare. En Livstid I Krig and Lejonet Fran Norden are my absolute favorites, especially if you like anthems. Enjoy your journey!
