- Denise Francis, 27, lives in a 1-bedroom loft apartment in Yonkers, NY and pays $1,850 a month in rent. Since graduating from college, Denise had been saving up to move out of the two-bedroom apartment in Brooklyn where she lived her whole life. "This Brooklyn girl ended up in Yonkers because this had all the things that I needed: the complete loft upstairs, the different rooms and more than enough space," she says.

Exactly! My oldest is about to be 23 & I swear all I ask her to do is pay her own personal bills & save her money! She’s still in college & I told her to take all the time she needed. I’ll never put a child out.

We really should. I know alot of people move out at 18, some forced by parents and some really want that independence. Then lots of them really struggle and/or have to come back home. That's one reason why I didn't leave early. Wanted to save more than enough to cover me incase I lose my job, or xyz happens.

@@asadb1990 I agree she's likely a bit over extended, as she explained in her video. From rates I've seen in New York, it seems pretty reasonable for a dream apartment. I don't think this is an average apartment, feels higher end with the huge ceiling, brand new appliances and the large windows! Thank you for the comment.

Star star your obviously not a New Yorker! Houses are very expensive and not cheap like in some states! We love our state, but their is a big price to pay for housing! There is nothing wrong with anyone wanting a nice apartment! Back in the day, that’s how most of our parents started off when they were young and left home to pursue their independence! 🤷🏾♀️

@@asadb1990 I’m a developer and I lived in Brooklyn before I moved out of state. And most likely, Brooklyn would be affordable compared to your salary depending on the neighborhood.

It’s a deal because it’s in westchester county ny not nyc the suburbs are always a lot cheaper than the city
@@gillysimone2796 not always, still pretty expensive until you go further away from NYC. Its not trendy parts of BK so that helps price wise, but its still in the urban core of the metro area. You can walk to the 2 train from parts of Yonkers. She got a good deal but that is not commonplace so close to NYC border..unless other factors are bringing it down.

Congrats! These are the apartments over looking the Hudson river! I've lived in Yonkers my entire life (35 years old). I moved out not too long ago. Yonkers has so much to see, many "hidden gems" around there.

i’m from yonkers and it’s a beautiful loft but the general area it’s in is eh as there’s lots of high crime and stuff not the best , but it’s still exceptionally beautiful and the buildings in that area are are being built and are brand new as they’re by the water!!

I enjoyed this episode. Denise has such a lovely and open spirit. Her sense of style is is simple yet slightly exotic. I loved the African coffee table by the pink couch, as well as the orange arch as an accent piece, and the plant table in the breakfast nook area. Not to mention her puppy.....cuteness overload!
The spaciousness of her loft suits her well, instead of a cramped apartment in a more upmarket part of the city. I’m glad she was careful and thorough in her approach to locating and renting the property, and managed to avoid being scammed in the process.
