- i’ve been seeing clips of this ancient roman-inspired bathhouse everywhere - and so when we were in chicago a few months ago, we decided to check it out! aire ancient baths is a bathhouse with lots of different amenities, but we were here specifically for their 6 different types of pools - from super hot 🔥, to super cold 🥶, to tepid, to jacuzzi ✨ and you know i love a good bath - we are definitely coming back next time we get a chance!!

Wet sock Stockholm syndrome 😜I feel like the idea of wet suit type booties would be more tolerable. And if the point is to avoid slipping and/or spreading athlete’s foot, wouldn’t that kind of fabric make more sense than a regular sock? 🤔

As someone from Bath, UK, this is like someone combined our Roman Baths with our modern spa 😆 every time I walk around the Roman Baths I wish you could actually get in. I need to go to this place I guess!

Oooh 😮 My high school Latin teacher would be impressed lol. I like the idea of a scented steam room, but peppermint would NOT be my choice 🤣 I’m sure it’s really refreshing for some, but it sounds so overwhelming to me

@@brookepearson lol I’m not even sure what scent I would choose to be steam bathed in. It would have to be fairly mild if I’m going to be in there for more than a couple minutes 🤔
There’s a health club in Chicago that has a steam room with eucalyptus and it’s much nicer than a peppermint haha. Burns less probably
I just went to a spa that has similar things, including a salt pool, and I literally floated for 1 & 1/2 - it's super zen once you get your mind relaxes
Ancient Romans didn't use soap to bathe. They used salt to exfoliate, and oil to cleanse, and people quite literally carried their own oil kn1fe to scrape the oil off.
This reminds me of the spa I went to in Quebec! That super salty pool was my favorite. I think I ended up falling asleep for the duration I was floating 😂

Rich people in Ancient Rome would sometimes lounge at bathhouses all day going in between the caldarium and frigidarium to get high. The shock of switching temperatures that fast is enough to make you trip
I love this place; it’s really worth it for a special treat
Salt is good for skin and for hydration. It keeps skin more moist after shower and great exfoliator since it purifies and cleans. It can also preserve 🤣 so mind not to keep you too salted or you become a pickle.
This place is amazing. I am dying to get back. Honestly life changing.
Rivers in Finland and hole in the ice experience in there. Some Finnish public swimming pools has those separate tiny cold bath pools if there is no possibility for hole in the ice. 🥶 I once dipped in one thinking its for children since it was so tiny (was child back then) and the regret after 😁.

Taking myself to Aire in NYC while I waited for my friends to finish work was the best decision ever 😂 Also the folks who worked there were the best and I would totally want to grab a drink with them

I want to go to there. Seriously, though, I had extremely bad eczema on my legs in jr high (look like I had leprosy) and the ocean was the only thing that cleared it up. I used a lot of sea salt in my bath that year.

I could not have imagined so many types of baths
Reminds me of the thermal baths in... Actually, most of the thermal baths I've been to in Germany. Except they don't make you wear socks. And the steam rooms are generally some kind of tree scented. And the tepidarium might have a lazy river. And they don't mark which is the hot and which is the cold bath, which makes for hi-la-rious times when taking a friend who has never been to thermal baths, especially if it's a slow day and you can go "I'll take the right pool, you take the left and we'll chat over this here low wall."
I visited the ancient baths in Bath enthusiasts I was in England, it actually looked a fair bit like this, except this is nicer and less filled with toxic lead water, I hope.
