Maybe the inner beauty has to be effected before the outer beauty. I always took it as when Gracie’s friend was saying that she was beautiful that she was saying that about both her inner and outer beauty. And in order to effect the exterior beauty, the interior beauty had to be effected first cause when someone influences you in a very bad way, it can make you seem ugly to other people.
