This will be my third winter seriously running. I definitely prefer training in the most miserable weather possible. I don't know what it is but it's way harder for me to go out in warm summer morning than in wet, cold, dark December mornings. One of my best runs I did in rain, hail or snow. I highly recommend that to everyone. The look on people faces (or wild life because they are equally surprised) during the run and feeling of accomplishment afterwards are priceless.
I started running this year with lockdown and my main objective for this year is to keep running as it gets colder. Did my first run (long run) in steady cold rain yesterday and actually enjoyed it so fingers crossed.
You’ve got this! And be kind to yourself on days when you bail on your run. Getting out the door is always the worst/hardest part on a cold rainy day. I always resist and I always enjoy it when I get out there! You might think I would learn...
Brooks makes nice gloves that have touchscreen fingertips and little magnets that lock them together when you’re not wearing them, making it less likely to lose one. They’re not the warmest but good enough for most chilly days. I also have a pair of Smartwool gloves that can be used either as a liner or by themselves. For calf sleeves I’ve been recommending Rockay, and I especially love the EcoWhite color (it’s actually silvery w/black highlights) because the fabric is softer than the dyed versions. Very high quality and worth paying a little more for them than cheaper options.
I’m in the Midwest and started back running this year after multiple babies and a long hiatus. I’m determined not to let the cold deter me. Great video!!!
I appreciate that the gear you're using is the same affordable & convenient gear most people want to shop for. Definitely going to pick up a Baleaf long-sleeve since I don't have one. Thanks, Mike!
Video is appropriate for my run today. Everything was frosted over this morning. Had to wear my gloves for my run. Getting into the mindset of how to stay warm.
Two weeks ago it was borderline too hot to run and now I'm debating gloves on my morning runs, long sleeves pulled down over my hands are working okay.
Just started buying some autumn/winter clothing. The Nike Swift Running trousers are good, relaxed fit at the top and tight from knee down. The Compressport UTB Running hoodie is really lite, close fitting and yet still warm. I think your right about starting to focus more on base building and hopefully 21 we can start to get ready for racing (hopefully 🙏)
Hi, Kofuzi! I am studying for Comms exam right now, but just wanted to say that I enjoy your content and that I love watching it while I foam roll post-run. lol Have a great day! (:
have you ever tried any Patagonia stuff? I have found some things that are really amazing and very durable. It's also a good company and they will fix your clothes if you ever have an issue with them. I'd say their "dry fit" shirts/long sleeves to be the best. They market the running stuff as trail running for some reason
I have a pullover from Janji I've been really enjoying this fall. I have Polartech Power Stretch gloves too, but I always wish they blocked wind. I'd like to find something equally as thin that could stop wind. I'm good to go on winter gloves, but fall gloves seem to be an elusive quest for me.
this is always one of my favorite Kofuzi videos i look forward to. i was also looking for tights to just run in, with pockets that do not require shorts. def gonna look into RR Sports
I don't need gloves all winter but as soon as it drops below 18°C I need a headband or my ears will start hurting from the "cold". Guess we all have our weekspots lol The Rainrunner from Janji would be exactly what I'm looking for if it was black 😬 glad to see a sustainable brand focus on running though.
FYI, Kofuzi’s neck gaiter is double-thickness making it more protective from a Covid standpoint in addition to being warmer. However, on me it’s not narrow enough to stay up over my nose, so if you have a smaller face/head, take note. I’m happy having the warmth on my neck and holding it over my face if and when I encounter other people.
When it's below 50 my hands will start to ache during a run if they aren't covered. I have some really thin New Balance gloves that work with touchscreens and are just warm enough to get me through most runs.
I have sensitive hands as well -- when it's really chilly, I use a thin "fall weather" glove underneath a larger size of a winter or a thicker fall weather glove. I have several Pearl Izumi models that I have combined to stay comfortable
You forgot about one brilliant thing: arm sleeves. Just put them on when running against the wind and take them off when it's getting hot when you run after turnaround back, with the wind
Would you still recommend the dr.skin tights from amazon. I remember you really liking them for the price. I was going to pick some up because they make full length and 3/4 length tights. They also make singlet style racer back tank tops I've been looking at (it seems a few companies make this same style tank with their branding on what looks to be the same shirt) they come in a bunch of bright colors and are like $20 for 3 tanks. My idea is to buy some to wear over long sleeve stuff I already have that is black/gray (most of my running is done at 5am in the dark), then I can use the tank tops by themselves once the warmer weather comes back.
What do you think about lighted vests such as the tracer360 or the amphipod? I run early mornings and fight the light during the summer. In the Fall and Winter, it gets down right dangerous. I think that I want a vest that glows, not just reflects and can't find any good reviews.
i've never run in them myself, but i've seen them many times. i think they work great. personally, i prefer a headlamp. cars behind me can usually see it (i think), and if anyone coming to me from the side at an intersection isn't paying attention, i can turn my head and the light towards the driver to ensure that the light flickers to get their attention
www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07WT78KX1?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title has been working out great for me. It rechargeable and the battery lasts awhile in a single charge.
I need some kind of reflective gear for fall, does anyone have tips for something affordable to use when running? I need to cross a road to get to the trail, and people drive 70km/h without looking/stopping if anyone's about to cross it so gotta be visible to not be run over lol really, running during fall in sweden is like "oh it's still/already dark. shit it's so windy. oh noo my shoes are already muddy. that tree looks like it's gonna fall from the wind. wait why am I so damp? oh, its raining" seriously miss the summer haha
Could you do a video on the more expensive stuff? I find that you pay for what you get with quality and you dont have to keep re-buying in a throw away brands.
The thing is that even cheap stuff last forever. I'm going into third winter with my cheap stuff and I'm starting to make excuses on why to replace perfectly good clothing with some new stuff just for fun of having a new piece of gear.
I agree that even the cheap stuff lasts forever. I run outside everyday in Minnesota winters. I have a couple super warm pants for the coldest days and they are 10+ years old. Shirts and Jacket are the same. Socks are the only thing I kind of go through a lot of now.
This is excellent. I too live in the midwest (Iowa). i love the suggestions. It was 37 the other moring and needed some extra warm. Thank you for your "essentials" list. What reflective gear do you wear?
my wife bought me a high viz vest. i usually only wear it on a trail during hunting season or when i'm on a bike. otherwise, i might have a headlamp on.
I usually don’t need it until it gets more consistently in the freezing temp range. But I spend most of the year running in a knit cap or beanie. I’ve used everything from a balaclava to a beanie with a pom on top. A running specific knit cap isn’t strictly necessary
Brooks Notch thermal beanie is fantastic for cold runs. I've been happy with that hat on well into the single digits. It's very thin which is a huge plus as you can wear it in the fall too without your head heating up too much, and if you happen to have a big head, it'll fit it with room to spare unlike a lot of running beanies that are on the shorter.
do you wash your running clothes after every run? I wash them after every workout cuz of the sweat, but what happens if the clothes get thicker for the season? do you wash your jacket too?
My own opinion, is no. I don't wash after every run. Pants can last a couple runs. Shirts are good for a run or....if you are double layering, the closer to the body layer gets washed, the outer layer turns into the next to the body layer and get a new outer layer shirt. Jackets get washed once a month payment.
1:17 a lot of youtubers phareses it that way and I just want to tell you guys, just say "I did purchase", you don't need to add "with my own money", it's self explanatory. :)
It isn’t self explanatory. Many times, I get reimbursement offers (typically so a purchase can be considered a verified purchase). If I’m getting reimbursed later, I wouldn’t consider that to be a purchase with my own money. Nor would I consider it a purchase with my own money if someone sent me money to go buy something.

you just might be a cold weather runner!
running in light rain is the best, I love it.
Soccer warmups pants are my favorite! And they also have pockets with zippers. Love them!

Just ordered some essentials while watching this informative video! Going out for my first run tomorrow morning, can't wait!
It's so weird seeing you cleaned up (short hair and no facial hair), in your examples of fall gear! Thanks for all the great fall gear suggestions!
I’m in the Midwest and started back running this year after multiple babies and a long hiatus. I’m determined not to let the cold deter me. Great video!!!

It’s so fun to compare my fall essentials to other runners. Great video!

Ahhhh kofuzi!! I’m having my first Highschool cross country season soon, your a life saver!!!

All great items to have. Great review Kofuzi, thanks.

The first mile or mile and a half can be tough in the cold, but after that, it can be really good, even exhilarating.
Great video and tips Kofuzi!
Gear is always fun to buy! Great fall video as always!

Agreed. Patagonia Strider Pro short are legit!
Yes, recommend Patagonia Houdini jacket and vest for layering - light weight and easily packable.

kofuzi I agree lol for everyone’s sake lol

Nice timely video. I agree wholeheartedly on the gloves, first thing I add as well. I sometimes am still in a singlet and wearing gloves.
i've done the same. i recently raced a virtual 8k in half tights, singlet, and gloves.
Thanks for the shoutout Kofuzi!

I just ordered a janji TT half zip it's on sale right now and looks like the ideal shirt/jacket for my evening colder runs.
great for running. i hope you enjoy!

Nice video, very informing. Wont be able to attend the stream because a couple friends invited me to run at 3pm.

i have a couple pair (none with me here). i like them and have raced with them before, but i don't feel like they really keep me warm
Just ordered the TCA track pants, needing to protect my leg muscles in the UKs cold wet winters. 🤞
Such good pants
@@kofuzi Do you use small or medium?
Got the mediums but seem a bit baggy round the front.
This was perfect! Was looking for some good cost-effective options as it gets colder. Thanks very much.
happy running!

I still have those drksin tights. They seem to be thinning a bit, but they are still working for me.
Thank you very much for the info.
Thanks for watching
I realized my pace significantly decreases when it gets this cold. I found myself made much more effort. I guess my best temp is around 20 Celcius.

Those neck gaiter stuff is good to cover the ears too..
I cant handle ear getting cold, it stings 😥
Definitely. I usually have them cover mouth and ears, with the back of the gaiter going underneath my hat
i wore little socks on my hands! Definitely hands are the first order of Biz.
I nearly bought some mitts but will try this instead!

Quick question, how or do you carry water on longer runs?
which camera do you use? I'll need to get one for my runs too!
mostly gopro hero 9. sometimes insta360 one r.
i list in the description of each video which camera(s) i used for the running portion

For the fall, yes. But once it gets to winter time, I’ll switch over to something that at least covers my ankles
