  • The advantages to freezing your maple sap are numerous:

    Prevents dumping the maple sap that you've spent time to collect
    Using a maple sap preheater pan is also a brilliant and inexpensive way to allow frozen sap or cold sap to trickle into your large sap pan, thereby keeping your boiling rate going strong. Without a preheater pan, cold sap that gets dumped into the large pan will cool off the sap, and stop the boil, meaning you'll need to boil sap much longer.
    We also use a maple preheater pan to slowly drip the frozen sap into our large stainless steel pan. By doing the slow drip, we maintain our boil and keep the productivity at the highest level, eliminating dumping cold sap into the large pan, cooling off the sap and losing our boil. Over the course of the day, if you keep cooling off the sap, you can lose over an hour of boiling time, because it can take 5-6 minutes for the pan to reheat to a boiling level.
