@rycor814 Either Timothy Olyphant was the worst actor on the show, or Bullock was the worst written (major) character, or maybe both. Not saying he is any way a bad character or badly written, but Deadwood's writing, acting, and characters are on such a high level that the sheriff somehow pales in comparison. I related so much with the character of Bullock. I grew up in and survived constant physical abuse from my step dad. I went over to a friend's place where they were all watching Sopranos, which was the first time I saw it, was a great episode where Tony was running from the FBI through a snowy creek. Then Deadwood came on, and the only scene I remembered is one of the best, When Al is getting a blowjob and doing a crazy monologue. "Give me a reason to do what I want." In that line is the conflict that Seth Bullock has roiling within him. Before you decide that I'm going to hold forth with some great and esoteric wisdom about the essence of these characters, I have to admit that it took me a long time, several years in fact, to work out what the fuck was going on inside that man's brain. He wasn't created to be a man trapped between good and evil, because if we're being honest about humanity, we're all on that spectrum. And for the most part, we all know which end of the spectrum is that to which we should all aspire. Further honesty, I'm still not entirely sure why Seth seems always to be teetering at the edge of murderous rage. He can shift so quickly from benign to homicidal. The decade between series and movie has seen a definite mellowing and maturation, but all it takes for him to become consumed by his fury is the return to Deadwood of George Hearst. And the inevitable trail of death in his wake.
I'll never forget Deadwood. Best line in Ep 1: Liquor and p*ssy is half-price. ( or something along those lines. I loved his relationship with Alma Garrett. Al Swearingen's philosophy on life was on point: Life is just a series of unpleasant events ( or something along those lines).

Man this brings back great memories. No show did tension quite like Deadwood.
Olyphant had an intensity as this character I’ve never seen anywhere else. I would actually find myself saying out loud, “uh oh. Seth’s gonna be pissed off”. Really glad he wasn’t my dad.
1:05 Best threat ever.
Silver Snail14 I
My favorite line about Bullock was from Al when Alma got shot at. “Tell Bullock, generalities only or that maniac will come back shooting!”
"he aint no hoople, Bullock is one of those special cases you don't know what the fuck is going on in his mind"
Love it. I see myself in the Bullock character when I was young
6:51 - 8:15....the best lines...and delivery of them EVER!
I don't know who is the bigger badass, Seth Bullock or Raylan Givens.
I think it's a tie they both don't take no crap from anyone !
One would break your jaw before drawing on you and the other would draw on you without hesitation.
I'd give the slight edge to Raylan because he had to deal with some really bad shit, plus he had Boyd Crowder to deal with.
I’m going with Raylan.
"I don't swim in that shit," says Bullock, after implying he wanted some injured man killed. LOL Great stuff.
My favorite series....
Ralan Givens great-grandpa.
Being in small business, I love Swearingens line "Commerce. Any hump above ground is your master".
Still true today.
The man straight up scared off both Earp brothers, two well known killers. That tells you what kind of man Bullock was.
Seth Bullock stayed on crud 24/7. Love Timothy's portrayal of him
I'll never forget Deadwood. Best line in Ep 1: Liquor and p*ssy is half-price. ( or something along those lines. I loved his relationship with Alma Garrett. Al Swearingen's philosophy on life was on point: Life is just a series of unpleasant events ( or something along those lines).
Now I'm telling you all WATCH it!
One of the best shows HBO has ever made. Top 5 easy....
1. The Sopranos
2. The Wire
3. Deadwood
This is coming from a huge fan of Deadwood. Top 3 is still amazing by how many amazing shows HBO has put out over the years.
Goddamn I love Bullock!
The real Seth Bullock ended up with 50 more lawmen who were just like him...
Gotta love Bullock
He got angry, yeah he had anger issues, but then again that’s exactly what was needed in a lawman back in those days, those who knew they had anger issues and were able to utilize and understand it like play it like a fine fiddle.
The constant righteous rage bubbling just beneath the surface.... Always wondered why people insisted on provoking someone that was a borderline psychopath
Seth Bullock: a good man with a temper.
"a temper" is an understatement if I ever heard one XD
