  • In this English lesson, you will learn the difference between remember to do something (infinitive) and remember doing something (gerund).
The verb remember can be followed either by a verb in the infinitive (to + base form) or a gerund (the -ing form). Both are grammatically correct but the meaning is very different. You will learn that difference in this lesson.
There are some English exercises at the end of the lesson to check your understanding.
The accent in the video is a British English accent.

I listened and watched this lesson the second time as I was interested why one guy asked about sentenced 4 in his comment. That is great you have done these examples in different tenses.Sentence 4 was in past Simple and made confused him but does not matter when it happened or is happening.the most important was do not forget to call him even yesterday. Thanks a lot for giving in different tenses. We think and understand more.

mmm Hello and thanks for the comment and question.
The rule is *not* if the action is in the past, present or future. The rule is if the action is *before* or *after* the thought.
In question 4, it is true that the action (call) is in the past. But the thought (remember) is also in the past (*did* you remember?). In question 4, we are asking the question to be make sure that the person did not forget to call John. The person thinks first, then calls John.
Both actions are in the past but the thought is first in this context.

To sum up, it's correct to say:
      It was John's birthday yesterday.
1- Did you remember to call it?
      or
2- Do you remember calling it?
      It's right ?

Thanks!! Good one!! Can you add more vedios with different examples!!
Gerund action wards are using to learn the action or remember the action/process etc e.g. I learnt cooking. He remembers cooking that dish. It means I learnt firstly and than I used it again. Is it the correct way to use of gerund words.
Infinitive action wards are using to indicate about action required or have to do it e.g. to call and to go.
    Is it correct!! Please reply!

''to fil up'' because in this case it is something that she remembered and made '' fill up with gasoline ''. In this exercise, it is not a matter of remembering whether she did it or not, in this exercise it is something that she remembered and did

    • @CrownAcademyEnglish
      @CrownAcademyEnglish  8 лет назад +1

+Gabriel Polanco Hello and thanks for the comment and question. Yes question 4 is the most difficult to understand!
The rule is not if the action is in the past, present or future. The rule is if the action is before or after the thought.
In question 4, it is true that the action (call) is in the past. But the thought (remember) is also in the past (did you remember?).
In question 4, we are asking the question to be sure that the person did not forget to call John. The person thinks first, then calls John.
Both actions are in the past but the thought is first in this context.

***** Make sure you use good punctuation. Capital letters, commas and full stops in the right places. Good luck. :)

i did bad on my letter writing. Wrong format and didn't use paragraphs. Will this cause a lot of marks?

I'm not sure what you mean by ""wrong format" but paragraphs are very important in writing because it makes it much easier to read. If the actual content of the letter uses good grammar and vocabulary, then you should be ok.

I don't give IELTS lessons, but I can recommend you a good online course to get a high score in the IELTS exam.
Go to my website: www.crownacademyenglish.com/ and click on the "IELTS course" link on the right of the page. :)
