As this plane was designed for SLSA rules, maybe a video about the upcoming MOSAIC rule changes, or plane classes in general? Maybe a comparison of what any given license can get you, and the costs with those.
They fly like a dream, good performance. Having built 2 (a 12 and a 12is)of them while in school, I can personally say it is a really fun process and everyone should at least get an experience doing so.
In case you're looking for inspiration on future "cost to own" vids (probably not, but the algorithm will appreciated the engagement I hope): how about "obscure eastern 4 seaters: Yak 18T vs Let Z-37 Čmelák" - you'll need the Bede BD 4's U.P.F.(Ugly Plane Filter) for the latter though.
Completed an RV12iS a year ago with my friend, the owner. Over 116 hours and flies great and the condition insp. only took three days maximum. We finished it in just over a year due to part delays. I would recommend this model for a first time builder.
YES! This is the video I was waiting for! And it doesn't make me *not* still want to build my own (and feed it MOGAS), though the list of SBs etc does temper my enthusiasm slightly.
You can read the SBs on Van’s website. They run the gamut from inspection to replacing fairly difficult parts. Most are low cost, but a few are well into the $100+.
I got my ppl on an rv12 and the controls are very light, I personally enjoy the controls, never noticed too many issues with robustness although I have very few other aircraft to compare this with. it was pretty bumpy at times but nothing insane. stalls are very gentle, if you have a headwind, you might not even be able to get a power off stall. Overall I enjoyed it, a nice little plane
I keep looking around at what could I afford and what would I actually have the most fun with. It keeps coming back to an RV-12 or a CH701. Thanks for doing both! :)
As of 2024, the RV-12 is a great little airplane. In some ways, I liked my training in the PA28 more but they’re just not the same thing. The RV-12 is a weenie little thing that you can practically tow with your index finger…especially when compared to a 4 seat Piper. My only real complaint is the stick…I’ve never been a fan of sticks. Give me a yoke or AT LEAST a side stick…but then again, there’s obviously a reason for such designs. I’m sure they’re simpler and weight-saving. Having said that, when it comes to a modern LSA trainer, the RV-12 is great. It’s forgiving, light in the controls, EFIS equipped (which I’ve warmed up to with time) and easy to land if you manage your energy properly.
Really appreciate the info. This is my target airplane, and it's nice to get information from a neutral perspective. And while I still sort have my heart set on a factory built plane, I may need to start clearing some space in my basement. Or get one that was built in the last 5 or so years.
I always look forward to these! I can't wait to see how you calculate purchase cost for an SR-71... Do you just calculate the cost of hiring your own Oceans 11 crew to "procure" one from a museum?
You lost me at RotEx. The "post release changes" have eliminated more than half of the SBs. I own an 8A (as well as a -12 and my first build was a 7), and the early 8s had some major changes (SBs) that changed the kit parts. Not sure your focus is a balanced, proper perspective.
@@CompleteWalkaroundAeromarine, or more specifically from Chip, the CEO/whatever. I’m not aware of the other you mentioned. What is the difference? I edited my post to specify the PSA (personal sport aircraft), not the Ultralight version.
The RV12 is a nice flying plane no doubt. However my zenith 601xl is at least 95% the same plane but for 1/3 the purchase price with less AD’s. I actually prefer flying behind my O200 than a rotax powered RV12.
Then the Vashon Ranger is the LSA for you. If you don't mind not being able to fly with full tanks and a passenger. I asked them at AirVenture last year how MOSAIC will impact the plane, and they said they'll be offering a landing gear upgrade that will raise max weight to 1500#. Will that be enough? Maybe.
Love your content. I have been saving for a Vans kit for years. Was really looking forward to the RV-15. As more and more information comes out about their bankruptcy though, the gross, disgusting mismanagement, and how they are absolutely screwing over their customers, I think they need to be made pariahs.
I would say that if you ever met Van, you'd would have come away with the impression that the last thing he'd ever want to do was "screw over" his customers. Things happen in business. Some are controllable, others are not. They had a bit of everything and at the worst possible time. Disclaimer: I do not own an RV.
A drawing of a blackbird implies a "so you want to own a blackbird" video coming 😉
Not even the USAF can afford those
Oh yeah i personaly can´t decide if i should own an SR-71 or an second hand B1
“Also, I drew two!”😂
^this
@@robinschingen6757 id say go for the sr-71 ;)
A great airplane and a great video!
That's high praise coming from you guys. Thanks very much
I think we all will agree, please do a Complete Walkaround for an SR71, lets see those juicy ownership numbers!!!!!
Woohoo! The plane I’m building made it to a Walkaround video 😂🛫 Might’ve forgot to include bankruptcy cost in building though. That one hit me hard 🥲
Another amazing job of giving us a guttural understanding of the core issues in a very brief brief.
Nice. So, yes. I do want to own a Blackbird.

I was eagerly waiting for an RV-12 video. Well done!
Now we need a Complete Walkaround on the SR71!

Dude! You are kill’n it! Fast, know your stuff, no bullshit. Thanks!
All killer no filler. Thanks man
would you consider doing a "Cost to Own" for the Murphy Moose? The "Beaver we have at home". It is my dream to own an amphib one!
Hope you do a Shark Aero video.
Congrats on the new ride! I nominate Pipistrel Velis Electro for a video, that sounds like a fun one
YES! This is the video I was waiting for!

I LOVE that rv15 paint scheme. I want one just like it

Uuu, the Shark at the end! Please make a video of it, it's my very favorite since I saw it on the internet... than in real life! 😍
As a fellow pilot thank you for this channel can you do the sling TSi and 2 i have the 2 looking to compare your numbers :)
Thanks. I did the TSI a while ago
Great video as always! Would you consider doing a cost analysis on the Lake Buccaneer/Renegade?

Yokes block parts of the panel. The panel is relatively small in an RV-12.

You should make a video on a lancair evolution
Thanks for the video. I have been waiting for this one.
Yes indeed, a wonderful plane! Would love love love to see a walk-around video on a Zenith CH 650!! Please Please :)
Ben dreaming of rv4!!! For 20! Years LoL I had to let my subscription to kit planes expire it was like torture every new edition😂😂😂😂
DO A COST TO OWN A BLACKBIRD VIDEO!!!
I always look forward to these!
I can't wait to see how you calculate purchase cost for an SR-71... Do you just calculate the cost of hiring your own Oceans 11 crew to "procure" one from a museum?
Still waiting for that Risen 915/SuperVeloce video. Just check that thing out. I think it’s the best LSA out there.
I do believe that the SR-71 had a few departures. One involved the drone on the back.
Can you do a video on the Grumman Mallard the goose's bigger cooler brother?
Yeah i guess its good for Light Sport but if you can’t actually go anywhere or bring anyone, is it really worth it in the first place?
The price seems crazy compared to carbon fiber European ultralights that cruise 40% faster.
Do the plane that they call "Sparks"
Could you do a video on the GB1 Gamebird?
Please do _Scrappy_ because that’s the collab we’re looking for.
Can you do a vid on the Glasair III? Would be sick
I think maybe you drew an A-12 rather than an SR-71 (no rear cockpit windows), but that seems fitting, because....12.
Please do the Lancair IV-P

I would love to accomplish building this plane one day.
Another winner. RV9 please!!!
I recently bought a used Merlin PSA to be delivered soon (I hope) from Czech Republic. I wish i could have seen a Review from you first.
Aeromarine or Swearingen??

beech d17 staggerwing video?
Can you please do a video on the pc 24 private jet
Thx for the rv12 cost to own

The new Junkers F13 next!
I won´t even begin to imagine the Insurance cost of a SR-71.
atleast it´s not an Experimental.
Rotex?
Please, help me...I need you to crush my dreams of ever realistically owning a Grumman HU-16...
Yesss
You sound just like the news teacher from bobs burger s3 episode 12
I can't fit in one of these. I'm too tall
First comment!
🏆
The blackbird is definitely a very drawable airplane 😅
This guy should be a flight instructor
53? more like 70
Sponsored by Dynon? Most SLSAs come with big G avionics (more $$$$$ to shell out)
Well perhaps, 53 that are specific to just the 12
