    I work at DMI, and I can tell you about the wind on the Great Belt bridge is monitored quite well. If crosswinds are getting high the people at the bridge will call us and get the wind forecast so they have a guideline. And we also warn them if we an increase in wind :)

    • @BenjaminVestergaard
      @BenjaminVestergaard 3 года назад +2

      One of our nations great heroes :) thank you.
      But having crossed the bridge in just medium cross wind, I know that when you pass the pillars, you will feel a significant sway. It can cause worry if you didn't pay attention to the wind socks coming in... I can only imagine what one with fear of heights and water would feel...
      It'd actually be nice if someone working in our road infrastructure would weigh in and tell how difficult it actually is to break the outer barriers of the bridge... So far I haven't heard of even the heaviest trucks to end up in the sea. The warnings are always about light vehicles, which could be carried by the wind.

Sønderho kro is also worth a visit. it is located next to Esbjerg in Jutland. and one has to book time for a small ferry to get over there. one only pays to get over there. it's free to sail back.The beach over there is so big that you can drive there in a car. I am a maritime pilot and sail under the bridge quite often. The height of the tallest ship allowed under the bridge is 64 meters and every week ships sail under it, that comes very close to the maximum. Most ships however are about 35-42 meters tall and would then have 20-30 meters up to the max - probably the ones Miranda talks about seeing :-)

The ride from Sjælland to Fyn is my favorite part, just when you come over the hill and see the ocean and the Island (Sprogø), it's so beautiful. Btw you should read into the history of the small Island (Sprogø). It has a fascinating but pretty dark history. Stay loose and relaxed in the shoulders and body, to feel and catch the wind softly with the steering wheel, to drive straight in the lanes on the bridge.
    You are unconsciously steering to the right on the bridge, then the wind comes from the right. Hold the car as a boat in the wind and steer a few degrees off direction, to go straight in the lanes. Then you hit wind shelter at the pylons, your car goes right. If you steer right-straight-right then you pass the pylons, you have no problems. You must stay loose and just feel the wind.

I didn't see that platform you showed us here today, but I did see two dudes in high visibility gear literally walking down one of the cables. No matter which way you go on Storebæltsbroen you have to pay at the Zealand side. A joke that is going around is that you have to pay on the Zealand side be cause people from Zealand can't be trusted and therefore have to pay in advance before crossing and people from Jutland are cheap and will never ever pay for something in advance;-)

    haha the dude telling you stuff about the stones, sound like a German youtuber Joerge Sprave, on the slingshot channel, so every time he talks I expect him to say "Let me tell you about its features!". I know this is only funny if you know about the slingshot channel, but I had a good giggle :)

    Fun facts on the bridge - Denmark is "low" in general.
    * Max sailing height under bridge is 65 m (213 ft.)
    * Pylon top is 254 m (833 ft.)
    * Sea depth under bridge max ~ 65 m
    For comparison:
    * Rundetårn in Copenhagen 35 m - fits twice under bridge + twice under water
    * Top point in Denmark is Yding Skovhøj at 172.5 m (566 ft.) - pylons ~50% taller than Denmark itself

    The nightmare bridge, hehehe... When i was a teenager (my late teens) i took part in the official opening of Storebæltsbroen as crew and i have walked on it in hard windy weather :D Was also on sprogø and inside the tunnel while it was constructed. Amazing project.. and just imagine, the upcoming bridge to germany will be even longer and bigger :D And yes, Viking culture had female warriors (and generally a high level of equality), the shieldmaidens took part in battle on same level as men would :) Viking females could also own property :)
