    This is a great idea! I've been planning and preparing since your last grocery haul where you talked about doing a big pantry stock. I did a second Costco run last week to pick up 1. toilet paper 2. paper towels 3. laundry detergent 4. dish and hand soap 5. garbage bags 6. reusable spoons (for some STRANGE reason my spoons mysteriously come up missing...I wonder if my boys are hiding them or throwing them away). I also bought canned tuna fish in bulk, sardines in bulk, case of canned chick peas and black beans, breakfast cereal and bulk Oatmeal, 2 large bags of Almonds and pecans, hot chocolate, crackers, evaporated milk, vinegar, juice, and water. Next thing I'll do is run to the local grocer for a freezer stock...but that won't be a lot of meat because we don't have extra freezer space. You're onto something good here. Let's be prepared and be safe.

      That is a great Costco haul!! You have some good items on your list. I have been couponing to get more household items. I am pretty stocked on toilet tissue and laundry detergent but I really need some more paper towels and hand soap... 😂 you have a spoon bandit in the house! Yeah I was bummed that I can't find a reasonable priced freezer in my area so unfortunately I won't be able to stock up on freezer items as much as I want to. Thanks so much for watching and sharing your list, it was very helpful!! ❤

      The spoons!!! I believe my kids have created a secret spoon and fork society. Where do they go? What’s sad is my kids are grown people and still my stuff go missing. 😂😂😂

    Don’t know when this was made but I still have some suggestions for you. First don’t store your foods in the garage. There’s too much temperature fluctuation. You should keep your pantry between 50-70 degrees. Also, place your red sauces and tomato products on the bottom shelves. In case something breaks or Lord forbid, explodes, it won’t cause you to have to clean all the foods stored underneath. Just the floor and anything stored on the floor underneath your red sauces and tomato products. Keep preparing, you’re doing great. This is a marathon not a race. Slow and steady is best. Don’t forget cleaning supplies, personal hygiene products, feminine hygiene products, water and flavored drink mixes, and pet food. I hope this helps a little bit. Good for you starting to prep. Welcome! We’re happy to have you.

    The prepper community on RUclips is so great and helpful. Food insurance has been on a lot more people’s hearts over the last few months. Smart to just work on your working pantry first before getting into the buckets, Mylar bags, canning, etc. Building up to a few months’ or a year’s supply will still buy you time in case of like you said a job loss or emergency. I just started in the last three months myself.

    • @TheMotherPlan
      @TheMotherPlan  4 года назад

      Yes totally agree! Since I'm a beginner, thinking about canning and 10yr long term storage is very overwhelming. I just want to at least focus on the the short term emergency supply. That's awesome that you also just started in the last few months. Keep me posted of your progress so we can exchange helpful tips and information! Thanks so much for watching and commenting!! 💜

    You can put flour in gallon bags and add two bay leaves per bag to keep away anything getting in. Lay them flat in a box and pipe them up:) you can stack them pretty high if they’re in a box

    I've been prepping for a few years, and it makes me so happy to see so many people here on RUclips starting an extended pantry. Better safe than sorry! 😊 Worst case scenario you save money in the long run, since food prices are going up. Great haul!

    One of the tips that I learned (I think from Pegi and Don) was to just buy an extra flat of canned food with each weekly trip. 12 cans of food is $6 from Walmart, so it’s pretty easy to add that in the budget. I was AMAZED at how quickly those cans added up. Then I learned that I’m more likely to eat canned soups for a meal so I started shopping around for local sales on GOOD canned soups, and stocking up on that. We just went through the cold week in Texas and I learned that the junk food helped get us through that week. Don’t underestimate comfort foods in your prep. And water. I didn’t prep water but we had family that gifted us water when we let them stay with us.

    Great start! You can add the canned chicken to the ramen with some canned veg in a pinch. Also, creamed soups are good for casseroles with your canned chicken if your family likes that type of food.
    I bought some metal shelves from menards for about $40. Great vid!

      Thanks so much Jennifer!! ❤ Great idea for the chicken. I will also add creamed soups to my list of things to pick up. 40 is a really good price for the shelves, thanks for sharing!

    I am new to actually having a permanent backup pantry. I packed about three months of food. I concentrated on starting to pack the 10-15 forever foods such as beans, rice, flour, powdered milk and pasta. I suggest getting your food grade buckets from Home Depot! I was able to get the Gamma lids from Lowe's and had them mailed directly to my home. You did a great job on picking your foods.

    Long term prepper here everything you bought will last 6 months to a year other items 20 years plus as long as its in a temperature controlled room . Anything with flour please put in the freezer for three plus days it kills the bug eggs then put them back in ur storage closet. And freeze any rice also to kill the eggs. Ive been prepping 10 plus years. Don't touch your preps i wouldn't rotate out until 6 months then you will have a good size pantry
    then start rotating. I have half a basement of preps. Even then I worry its not enough . We never know how long it would last. Keep an eye Walmart has been selling freezers check on thier website. Awesome haul.

    • @TheMotherPlan
      @TheMotherPlan  3 года назад

      Thanks so much for the tips and suggestions! 💜 I'm curious to why is it not a good idea to continue to rotate things in out? I'm just keeping the food's date as fresh as possible. I always replace what I take...

    • @kelleyjerred8032
      @kelleyjerred8032 3 года назад

      Its all good to rotate out short term most definitely but let's say if shtf right now this very moment and you were planning and going shopping to stock up this Saturday and Friday is when you get paid then your out of luck thats the only reason hun. Watch videos on how long items last can goods whatever is very interesting then you don't have to work so hard. But most Def if you want to, do it, im all about less work lol my preps are locked up i don't have time to keep going up and down stairs. So I focus on long term preps. But your doing a great job 👏

    Love your grocery haul. I have always had extra flour in the freezer. I've never been comfortable with excess anything. I managed to have enough toilet paper, etc during the initial crisis (don't know what the go was with toilet paper). As it is Halloween, I put out balloons to let folk we were participating (Halloween is not the norm in Australia) - not one person this year, it is slow because we live in the country but I usually get at least 10 kids. What I would like is a generator in case the power goes out. Look forward to your tips on stocking up.

      Yes usually I don't like to stockpile food either because I end up wasting it most of the time. However, I never had a system before. Now I'm going to make sure I take inventory and rotate things in and out to make sure nothing expires... Wow no kids for Halloween, that's a bummer, well more candy for you guys to enjoy! 😂😋

    • @DaniDani-fx5qq
      @DaniDani-fx5qq 4 года назад

      Yes I have my 3 month and plan to keep going. I'm mainly buying canned goods as the dates on them are good for the next 2 to 3 years. I also hear if the cans are in good shape they can last longer. I did recently purchase egg and butter powder from augusson farms. But mostly am just buying our typical foods. I dont really do any of the long term mylar bags or food grade buckets. We may check into that after we reach a years supply.

    Country folks have always maintained a good pantry.The theory to buy only what you eat does not fit me. I am old and know tragedy can hit in a moment.Extended family we have newborns so I stock baby formula. Can you imagine the happiness you will bring if your family with their baby shows up at your door and you have formula for the baby when no stores are open for weeks.
