I am in the UK and never did this but life has changed money tighter and I've been stocking up on bulk items watching the way I eat and prepare food so everything gets eaten either today or tomorrow. Keep it up love your advice and knowledge.

I had a well stocked pantry and that saved me when my husband of 10 years left me with 6 kids and no job and no education. Now I have graduated college and have a full time job and still always working on my food storage. You never know what is coming. When food shortages came during 2020 I was pretty calm since I had enough to feed my children for some time. My son has severe allergies so I feel safe to have food for him if the stores would be short on foods he can have. I also keep medication for my family in my pantry, it is convenient at best and life saving at worst. ❤ love your channel

I just went through an unexpected emergency at the beginning of March. I was in a relationship where I wasn't working and some awful things happened and I had to take my daughter and move out immediately. Thanks to my emergency savings I was able to afford the cost of moving despite not working. With my emergency food storage I've been able to feed my family on under $50 a week for extra groceries and many meals have been 100% from food storage.
We're in a safe space with someone we know and are lucky enough to not have to pay rent yet, I'm just buying groceries for everyone and doing some family cooking. After what happened I'm not mentally in a place where I'm able to work yet but with the monthy child benefit from the government I've been able to keep us all fed and pay for groceries, my phone bill, gas, and car insurance.
I never in a million years thought I would be in this sort of situation, but I'm so glad I had emergency savings and food available.

I was in an abusive relationship with no kids so leaving was easier for me financially but that was 23 years ago and I was never able to be in a room with a guy nevermind dating and now at 44 I'm teeminally ill. It takes a lot to open up and tell your story to strangers but I assure you that by doing so you have helped countless people as an amazing role model not only to people in your life but on here as well. You, your kids and those you are staying with are in my prayer book now and that means I can pray for you on a regular basis because your story touched my heart. Cream of chicken soup made my family a whole meal during the big Texas snowstorm of 2021. We were holed up in a hotel because we had no central heat at home. Hotel luckily never lost power. Bit of Minute Rice, canned chicken, cream of chicken, heated up with boiling water from our electric kettle that I brought with us. It’s very versatile. (Electric kettle is also a must. For road trips and hotel stays but also emergency situations where power is available but maybe no stove or hot plate. Those on demand hot drinks kept morale up, plus instant oatmeal, minute rice, the soup, etc.)

Texas Freeze came and we had a small stock pile which saved us. Canned soups cooked on a gas stove. I tell ya it tasted like a five star meal and was hot lol!

It was a major ice storm that lasted 3 days and left huge areas without power for 3 plus weeks. The ice was so thick and we could not travel on roads at all. We lived in a small town. We were literally down to ONE can of green beans when the salt and sand trucks finally made it to our town. I cried so hard because I thought I was going to have to watch my young daughter starve to death. I had not eaten in 3 days. I was never so happy to be able to go grocery shopping. Having emergency food supplies is essential.

This is a very timely video especially for those getting a big income tax check this year. When I was a single mom and getting earned income credit, the first thing I would do once I received my tax return is go to Walmart and get a year's supply of everything I needed for the house. The only thing I didn't get a year's supply of was produce, dairy and toilet paper. I would have done the toilet paper too but didn't have enough space to store it all. My girls are now grown and on their own but they still talk about those shopping trips. They loved them and had so much fun. It was the one time a year they knew mom could say yes for something a little extra.

I love that you talked about job loss or insecurity and mental health issues as reasons to have a food pantry. Most people hear "prepper pantry" and immediately think the extreme off grid, waiting for the end of the world type scenarios. But what we don't think of is severe weather or events (blizzards, flooding, tornados, fires) that would inhibit our ability to get to the store for an extended period. People that live in large metropolitan areas are probably the most vulnerable due to high population densities and limited available inventory. The most important tip that I could offer is to only buy foods that you and your family will eat. When I first started I would buy largely based on low cost but didn't think of how I would use it or if my husband and daughter would eat it. This is especially important if you or a family member has food aversion issues, allergies or is just a picky eater.

I am soooooo happy we had a large enough pantry for the 2 of us plus 2 freezers of meat. We still bought things as they were on sale. We hsve gone without fresh veggies but we have been ok. We would hsve really struggled if we would have had to buy most of our groceries during this time. I think prior he thought I was crazy for buying in bulk when on sale. I have a feeling now he is thankful and understands.

Thanks for your video! A tip for the honey is to get it out of that plastic bottle and into Sterilized and dried glass jars. This way it doesn't crystalize in the plastic and then becomes a royal pain to figure out how to get it out. The jars can be placed in warm water or into the microwave to get liquid honey. Make sure what you put into your pantry is food that you will eat. If you would not eat it in the regular world you probably won't want it in a prepper pantry.

Coffee is a staple in our house. For an assortment of reasons including longetivity (dirty power, type of water, and more) we use the bottom if the line, simple Mr Coffee and/ or the Walmart knock off. Our prepper pantry has a spare Coffee pot on the shelf and, we try to get those on sale; often Walmart has a great price on thier Black Friday weekend sale. These come up at low to no price every so often at yard and rummage sales too; were good to go if a pot is missing the glass crafe 'cause we have a spare one of those saved out too.....We are a minimum of 7 miles to a Safeway, further from more shopping, so a quick jaunt to the store when the Coffee pot fails to drip water through beans isn't so quick. Despite what minimalist, budgeting and frugal living, decluttering type discipline you approach it from, having a spare in the shelf puts a warm, fuzzy, contentment feeling in our hearts.

Great video Jamerrill! When I first started my prepper pantry I started with a budget of $100 a month. Instead of buying a variety of different items at a time I did one category. One month I would buy $100 of beans and rice, next month $100 of all different kinds of pasta and sauces, next month spices and baking items. It looked very lopsided at first but in no time I had a fully stocked pantry. Once I had my food staples I then worked on other items, health items one month, paper goods another month and so on. I went into Aldi and found cases of vegetables for .25 a can, no limit. I filled my trunk and didn't have to buy canned veggies for YEARS.
For toilet paper I bought the big round rolls that you find in commercial bathrooms. A dispenser and starter rolls were CHEAP and store in the space of one large Costco pack of TP. And... it's not sandpaper quality lol.
Once you have your starter pantry complete you can save up those months and put the money towards a quality water filter. I store water in rinsed soda bottles and dump them right into my Big Berkey for drinking or cooking. I've filtered water that has been stored for years and tastes perfect. I don't hesitate to say that water storage is more important than food storage. Soda bottles and heavy juice bottles do not break down or crack the way the small bottled water does and they're easy to store in the back of lower cabinets and back of closets. Once you get all of your short term pantry items and water storage covered, it's time to move into long term storage, but that's another video!

When I started prepping over a year ago, the first things I learned- to only stock what you will eat and Best buy dates is a suggestion. Canned goods will last a very long time. If your can bulges or if anything smells or looks weird, toss it. Peanut butter and oils will last about a year past date. Spaghetti sauce was the first thing I stored up on, along with Rice and Pasta. One 25lb bag of rice will fit into a 5gal food grade bucket. I store all my extra pasta in Mylar Bags or the tall plastic containers found at $tree.
Thanks for this video! I was looking for a starter video for some friends

One tactic is to routinely use 10% of your grocery budget to buy basic items (things to make things) that will last longer than the current grocery buying period. A bag of flour or other staples are an example of this. An extra can of beans or for the cost of 1 to 2 cans of beans, a pound of legumes. For a better idea of "what", drag out a recipie and buy enough stuff for one or two makes of that recipie. Optionally, pick an item you are capable and willing to prep from scratch then begin to collect the ingredients. From scratch, taco seasoning mix with cornstarch doesn't require too many different ingredients and the ingredients can be used for many other dishes so if you never make more than one once, you can still use the stuff you bought; on these things, I prefer to pre-mix one batch at a time rather than a quantity in the same container.

You always meet people right where they are at. Everytime I see you and hear you and I am instantly washed over with a sense of calm. I appreciate that about you so much. Sending love from Ontario, Canada.

Jammerill, one of the things HUGELY overlooked in a deep pantry are cooking fats. Nothing is happening without those. The LDS had a food storage calculator on what you should have. For 12 weeks (meaning you are on your own for that time) a family of 10, 4 people over the age of twelve and 6 under the age of 12, you need 55 lbs of fats available. Now, for that calculation, fats would be peanut butter also. You are not going to be able to cook over a flame without lard, oil or butter. You can get a number for your family specifically by googling LDS Food Storage calculator. Coconut oil works, but it's pricey.

When I catch a sale I stock up on Classico pasta sauce. There are several flavors and the sauce is good. Also it comes in 24 oz square Atlas Mason jars that can be used for canning. My son prefers their garlic pasta sauce to all others and I get a free canning jar. Ball lids fit perfectly.

I'm old fashion LOL Matches / fire starters ( make your own at no cost ) / out door solar lights / a hand held can opener ( This item is very important some mom's have never seen or used one . ) Fill empty plastic bottles such as 2lt. soda bottles with water ( not for drinking but for flushing toilet ) Also clean out large size plastic liquid laundry soap with the push button with water for hand washing ( not for drinking or cooking sometimes the water has been shut off in areas of flooding ) . Enjoy watching your video's you share very good information with everyone .

Great haul! I'm trying to stock up. We have a 2nd bathroom that is an old style jack and Jill bathroom and it has slowly turned into a storage area. The closet in there is the largest and deepest closet in the house. It currently houses our extra over the counter meds but really considering turning it into a much larger pantry. I started using our smaller size laundry room but it didn't work out. I'm also trying to can out of the garden (totally experimental!). We shall see ♡

Food storage is insurance. Food will not be cheaper than it is today. I’m so happy that I built my pantry in 2020. We can eat so cheap now. If I want to have a no spend grocery month, I can do so very easily. I can also go months on low spend only picking up the lost leader specials at my local grocery store.
