Living on a budget doesn't mean you are poor. Like you, I never talked about money. My parents taught me it was rude. But the downside is I never learned how to save or invest until I turned 60 and panicked when I realized I had nothing for retirement. I started my own business, paid off all my debt ($30K), built an emergency fund, focused on my health and got my finances in order. Now 4 years later, I'm financially secure but not rich nor do I ever expect to be. Comfortable is just fine with me.

I loved this video. I didnt save for retirement. My husband didn't either. I am flying solo at 68. Tightening the bootstraps and climbing myself out of my debt. My health took a turn in July. Had a stroke and am now diabetic. Never took meds before. Now I do. Working gig apps to help my budget. God will provide and keep me moving forward. I save my coins and dollar bills also.

I have a good friend in Asheville, NC. She posted on FB this morning, and I was so relieved. No power or cell service for a week, so she could not contact anyone to let everyone know she was ok. Her and her husband have been helping the community. So many without water, power, etc. still. I love your attitude. I think being grateful and your mindset has a lot to do with how you view life, and you radiate positivity.

Robin, thanks for sharing your budget and saving strategies again! I am shocked at what is happening with those who were impacted by Hurricane Helene, especially those in the Blue Ridge Mountain areas of North Carolina and Tennessee! I can't imagine the devastation they have experienced - they must be in shock. I'm thankful for those who have volunteered time, money, and supplies to help those in need! Our government officials should be ashamed of themselves for their lack of support considering the billions of dollars spent spent on non-Americans. I agree with you - something needs to change!
    Have a blessed weekend!

Also living on social security and with this inflation, it’s a genuine challenge. I’ve turned frugality into my “job”. Write down every way I save, investigate more ways, write down real & anticipated savings…it’s actually fun & takes some of the fear in these challenging days.
You are so right about the country needing a change! What is happening with Helene to our fellow Americans is absolutely disgusting, but looks like neighbors (even from states away) are coming to fill the void.

I probably have another 15 or so yrs to go but I love to get all the tips I can before I am to that stage of life. I am thankful for my upbringing as we did not have much as I was growing up but it taught me so much about being frugal and how to live below my means. Not to say I don't have a splurge every so often but those things are in the budget too! Tomorrow is one of those splurge days ... going to the pumpkin patch with my friend and her family.

It is always helpful to see how others manage their income and expenses. You have a great system that works well for you. What needs to change more than the government's response to natural disasters, is individual's response to their income and savings plans. So many people live a large life with little income. They don't plan for the future, and live for today. If they were better prepared for emergencies, the government wouldn't need to step up and bail them out. North Carolina was a freak storm that nobody saw coming, but there are so many people affected over a large swath of area, the government is stretched a little thin in both emergency funds and personnel. Sorry for the rant, but I believe we all need to step up and take some responsibility for ourselves too.

Very inspirational video! My condo and car are paid off. I make about $1562.00 after Medicare is taken out. I also have a supplemental plan. I tithe on my net pay. I spend about $200 on my groceries, household goods, and toiletries. I also have a cat. My expenses are similar to yours with the HUGE exception of school loans ( which have been on hold since the pandemic) and credit card debt. I'm working hard to get the CC debt paid off, but sometimes I have to use my CC's to make ends meet. It is a constant battle. I'll probably be making school loan payments until the day I die! I do save in two different accounts, but that is very minimal. I basically live from paycheck to paycheck (SS only). I'm tightening up my budget, and I'm slowly chipping away at the CC debt. It isn't easy. But I'm not stressed. I am blessed to be retired, live in a cozy home, and enjoy spending time with my family. I keep my nursing license current- just in case. Blessings

To save money on glasses, I bought new lenses for an older frame that I love, my prescriptions are as low as I can go. I pay car insurance 6 months at a time to save money, I buy alot of items on clearance, managers special or sale, clothes from Walmart, thriftstores, overstock store so not fancy.
I call for coupons for cat food each month and that helps. I just recently got my hair dyed and cut for the first time in 10 months for $60. I plan on doing it more often as I want to keep it up.

I agree with everything you said today. I have lots of family in VA, WV, TN and NC. None were affected with great loss. Two of my cousins had campers or an RV, not sure which, at a permanent camp site. They enjoyed their camp living there and literally stayed there as much as possible. This campsite where they stayed was completely washed away along with every camper and RV there. They are sad but very aware that material things are not the most important. The rest of my family had to deal with no electric for prolonged time, and trees uprooted and broken all apart. Roads around them will need to be repaired. Roads and highways within a couple of hours from them are GONE. Lots of help is going in from private organizations and benefactors but not much AT ALL from the government. Dolly Parton pledged one million dollars which will be matched by someone she knows, and Walmart has pledged ten million. This is what I have heard. Walmart has already been sending in whole convoys of semi trucks loaded with everything you can imagine! And thank you for sharing the way you budget, but I really think you shouldn't talk about how much money you have or where you keep it. You are talking about things on the internet that goes all over the world including some very dark places. I would say to pick an arbitrary amount and use it as an anonymous example. And YES, HEAVENS YES, You teach me good things in all your videos and I thank you. And I ask God to bless you.
